We learn on Schooled (which of course, takes place about a decade later) that and Lainey aren't as close and Lainey stopped answering her calls. More distressingly, we find out that Lainey and Barry get together. In essence, the show has pretty much spoiled what supposedly happens down the line on The Goldbergs while The Goldbergs is still officially on the air. I guess it would be like if there was a "set into the future" spin-off of The Wonder Years centered on Winnie, while the parent show was still on the air and we learn right then and there, that she and Kevin aren't going to be together in the future.
