Are some video games a bad influenece on children? And do you think those that are should be banned?

Not at all. I have played video games most of my life, and I feel fine. But, the games are more sophisticated than when I was a kid, not to mention more violent...
With that being said, I think that some games should not be played by kids.

They should be played by me, the crazy adult.

With all games and stuff children should be supervised. My kids play video games. My son plays Zelda (still) and he loves it. He also loves the wrestling games but, nothing more violent than that. If it makes him happy than I'm happy. They do make too many violent games. I saw my niece playing a violent game and it shook me up. People in the game were being killed with guns. There was blood gushing all over the place. This turned me off. :confused:

Ew I know. I was babysitting these kids and the little boy..he's like 6...was playing this game where you fly around in helicopters blowing up buildings and people and i was like....woah.....

I don't think they should be banned. Some people are...mature enough to handle it. I think kid's parents should make sure the game isn't all wacked out and isnt gonna screw em up for life. GO JENNYLEE!

There may be a couple of games that can be bad but only a few. (Conkers Bad Fur Day)

I've been playing video games since I was 9 years old and they certainly never made me violent. I think it depends on the child - some are easily influenced by games/TV/movies, and some aren't.
Video games have ratings now anyway (which wasn't the case when I first started playing). For example, no store will sell 'State of Emergency' on the PS2 to anyone under 18 years of age. Most violent or adult-themed games are also given '18' ratings.

I only like early 80s arcade and console games....... Games are supposed to e FUN,not look real and kill people!!

I have not played any modern video game systems for decades, but I know people become addicted to them and are constantly playing them every free waking moment. Seems that many games have no endpoint, they just keep going on forever so the person can keep playing forever. Like a gambling addict who just has unlimited funds (and will never go broke) who just wastes their life doing this.

I do notice kids saying to adults “I’m a gamer.” Like what most young people say, it makes no sense, does the person make money as a “gamer”? What’s the point?

There was an episode of Dr. Phil that featured a fat kid who is about 14 who literally does nothing except play video games. His mother is over 50 and in a wheelchair and couldn’t enforce any discipline. The father just gave up and mostly comes home to go upstairs to play music (and probably smoke weed) instead of dealing with Jabba the Hut Jr, who has been laying half naked on the couch refusing to move, with his handicapped mother (literally) offering him money to go take a shower. Hasn’t been in school for a year or so. This kid is an addict for sure, so these are addicting.

I read about one kid about the same age in Japan who was playing a game online and was up for over two days and died, probably from exhaustion. Probably his parents didn’t notice him dead until the body began to smell.

I, like millions of people am an IPhone addict. Internet is heroin to me. I will go ape if something happens to it. I might wake up to find the internet not working and I will check the box and if that isn’t the problem, on the phone to the internet company. Come quickly! I need you now! But probably over a billion people if not two billion or more have the same issue. If someone pulled a “kill switch” on the internet for a week, there would be anarchy. People need it for everything on their lives. It’s like the Earth addicted to crack except the pipe is a small computer in your pocket.

Probably the only game I would enjoy is Madden football, but I am sure now there are so many add ons and complications to it. Plus the controller now has about 15 different buttons

Like everything else in life, done in moderation there is little harm. But when obsessive personalities get thrown into the mix, bad things happen.

I don't believe that video games (or rock music, for that matter) will cause a well balanced person to become violent. however I do believe it can stimulate a person already having violent tendencies to "go over the brink", so to speak.

I also suspect there is a less than obvious negative aspect to advanced levels of play you'll find in many video games.

Many games just ramp up the number of bad guys after you, as the level of game play advances, until you get to a point where you reach sensory overload.

I believe over time playing in those environments can give the player a warped outlook, akin to paranoia as a survival instinct.

I'd say it's a given that more arthritic hand and finger issues for the arthritis docs.. they are happy.
