In the first season of The Andy Griffith show one of the writing teams came up with a potential episode that had the entire cast and creative team rolling on the floor with laughter. As they recovered and wiped tears from their eyes Andy said "You know it's the funniest one I've seen thus far but I'm afraid we can't use it; this show isn't the Beverly Hillbillies.
While I have to wonder how the script was like, I have to imagine it couldn't have been worse than Season 4's Divorce, Mountain Style, which wouldn't take much changes to be a Beverly Hillbillies episode (Replace Andy and Barney with Mr. Drysdale and Miss Jane and have Charlene replaced with Mr. Drysdale's niece and have her do a ritual to make Jethro her husband after breaking up with her suitor and then have Mr. Drysdale be the rider in white to break her and Jethro up) The episode's tone fits much better with the Beverly Hillbillies than it did with TAGS, particularly with the completely miscast Bob Denver as Dud instead of Hoke Howell and the most forgettable Blue Grass song the Darlings performed (There's a reason when people talk about the Darlings music no one brings up Boil them Cabbage Down). It's no wonder that the Darlings next appearance (The Darling Baby) would be much more along the lines of their original appearance than this crazy in a bad way episode
