Personally, because of what an actress Cloris is, I believe she makes Retro smile or chuckle or even laugh more than Kelly or Pippa would any day of the week. And that's what's important.

At least, I hope that's true.

I don't know about this. 1 - 6 are are how I would rank the actual female leads. I'm not saying Beverly Ann and Natalie are bad. I actually like their characters, but not as much as the other female leads. 7 - 13 can be mixed every now and then because they really aren't my hated characters from the show. 14 - 16 are the top 3 worst characters ever for The Facts of Life. You have Kelly who stole from the shop, Sue Ann who doesn't consider the girls her friends and lies to them making Natalie feel like crap, and then Molly who is just so damn annoying you want to sew her mouth shut.

Kelly's actions are not as bad as what Sue Ann did to the girls, mainly Natalie. Natalie was so enthuse with what she was doing with her life until Sue Ann came in and acted all better than them lying about what she really does. And even though Molly did nothing bad to the girls, I still can't tolerate her character.

Threatening Blair with violence, committing extortion, and vandalizing Mrs. Garrett's store are definitely worse offenses than lying about your career.

And while you loathe Molly's character (bad Christopher, you shouldn't deprive women of rights ;) ), she definitely had characteristics that sadly went missing after they foolishly let her go.

Sue Ann didn't just lie about her career. She had Natalie feeling like crap with what she was doing with her life. Natalie was so excited to experience life with what she was doing. Then here comes someone who is supposed to be your friend, lie about what they do rubbing it in your face and then make you feel like crap? Sue Ann is a two face loser who should have had her butt kicked to the curb.

And while you loathe Molly's character (bad Christopher, you shouldn't deprive women of rights ;) ), she definitely had characteristics that sadly went missing after they foolishly let her go.

They didn't foolishly let her go. Molly Ringwald stunk at acting. I don't care if she did become a successful actress in the 80's with her teeny bopper movies. She's still a lousy actress and her character on the show by always being opinionated in someone's face was annoying to watch. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

No. When I see Cloris pop up in the credits, in Mrs. Garrett's place, I feel as though this was a cynical, hollow Hollywood attempt to replace a beloved character and talented actress with another actress who had no prior association with the show, no history of working with these girls, and no prior relationship. I feel like Miss Mahoney would have been a better fit because at least the girls knew her, years earlier.

While Cloris was extremely talented, and Mindy clearly enjoyed the change, the scripts themselves seemed to shoehorn Cloris into "replacing" Charlotte: Mrs. Garrett lives with the girls, so when she leaves, Beverly Ann lives with the girls. She even takes her first-billed starring place in the opening credits.

By "replacing" a character who could never be replaced, they did such a disservice to the series. The show was originally about Mrs. Garrett and her seven young charges. By the end, it was just a bad spin-off attempt with almost none of the original characters. What do an urchin, an Australian urchin, and a kooky sister have to do with Mrs. Garrett? It had become The Facts of Life Palace, and Beverly Ann was at the center of this cheap reboot. It's good that other people can enjoy the last two seasons for what they were, but after 8-01, 8-02, and 8-06, I really can't.

Exactly but had way more dimension than those two combined. Even Nancy had more dimension.

It's not about "dimension", but about "What is this person doing on My Show"? They could have added all sorts of details about Beverly Ann, Pippa, and Kelly, but it wouldn't have changed the fact that these characters didn't belong on The Facts of Life.

What sort of connection did Beverly Ann, for example, have to the Core Four? None. She's just... suddenly living in their house, much like Kevin. The producers could see that Kevin wasn't working, and wrote him out of existence. But it's like they couldn't resist the urge to make these girls live with random strangers, for no discernible reason. What was Kevin doing there, besides sniffing the girls' underwear? What was Beverly Ann doing there, besides telling St. Olaf stories? What was Pippa doing there, besides uttering Australianisms? What was Kelly doing there, besides vandalizing Mrs. Garrett's shop and weirdly stalking Jo? But I suppose, like all FOL characters, you take the good, you take the bad, you take 'em both and there you have... well, something I don't really like watching after the first part of S8.

Hi retro i agree with you 100%!

MISS MAHONEY would have definitely been a much better replacement than BEVERLY ANN (please don't hit me cfr1970):bash::bash:). She already bonded with the girls on season 1, she was funny but also firm, and would have made a great confidante to the girls! Hooray for MISS MAHONEY!:clap::clap:

And you're quite observant: i did notice, that out of the 4 girls, NAT is the one who bonded better with BEVERLY ANN; BLAIR on the other hand didn't take her seriously, TOOTIE seemed distant, and JO didn't have much to say to her either...:wazzup:wazzup:wazzup

But, the WORST add to the show was STREET URCHIN (hey i agree with you 100 % on that one cfr1970): that kid had nothing to do in the girl's lives, and he was way too young to work at 'Over our heads' anyway! Besides, he really wasn't NEEDED at all, and if they had wanted some new character to spice things up, they could have just kept GEORGE as one of the girl's interest at least! (i know they tried that with KEVIN, but he was a POD!):ufo::ufo:

PIPPA on the other was alright: at least she was funny, and being a girl i could see her relate better to the girls (rather than an irritating little URCHIN!):mad:

But as I recall, she mentions her sister "Beverly". No "Ann". And as late as Season 2, Mrs. Garrett was the youngest, as stated in "Gossip". But then Beverly Ann comes along, and she's Mrs. Garrett's "younger" sister? The only thing we knew about Beverly was her name, and that she was older. That all got changed.

Yup, but it's still cool that she was mentioned before FOL was even a show yet. :)

And she could be quite a few years older than Beverly Ann, character-wise, so that would either make Mrs. Garrett and Beverly Ann's brothers and farmhands being older, before Beverly Ann was born, or it could have just been Mrs. Garrett and her parents and farmhands being older, before Beverly Ann was born, if you wanna reconcile the "Gossip" part. But I know you don't care to.

Just think what they could have done with Miss Mahoney: Mrs. Garret leaves, and Jo, Blair, and Tootie decide to take a class together at Langley. Guess who is now teaching at Langley: their former teacher, Miss Mahoney!

Miss Mahoney guides them through their class assignments, and quickly becomes a mentor: not replacing Mrs. Garrett (because she doesn't live with them, doesn't take Mrs. Garrett's bedroom, doesn't bake anything, and doesn't come from Appleton, Wisconsin), but provides them with academic instruction and logic to their problems.

I really could see the possibilities with this type of character: someone who they had previously known and had respected; someone who had a history with them at Eastland. Someone who wasn't literally shoved into Mrs. Garrett's place, taking her bedroom, her spot in the credits, and maybe even her clothes (you know there's no way Mrs. Garrett could have taken all of her wardrobe to Africa.)

Well, I didn't forget her. I think, at this time, Natalie was still "finding herself", away from college. Now, I wouldn't have minded having her at Langley, maybe later in the season. Second semester? I bet she could have been talked into it pretty easily by her three best friends!

Molly Ringwald's bank account says differently and she has had the most consistent career out of all the original 8 women and is still on a TV series.

You keep bringing up her bank account as if that's some big deal. There are porn stars who have bigger bank account amounts than some actors / actresses that know how to act. I don't get the connection since it doesn't depend on a person's acting abilities how much is in their bank account; it's what type of job they're willing to do that gets them the cash.

Also, Riverdale is so low rated. That's not something to brag about. Supernatural is a 15 year old show and it still has had higher ratings than Riverdale in the past couple of seasons. They're phasing the parents out, so I'm sure Molly is getting the boot to guest appearance status again. Although I have to admit, and I'm gonna hate saying this because someone will remind me, I do have to give Molly props for offering to help the producers of Riverdale recover from Luke Perry's death. She apparently told them she would do main status to help with the loss and that's big of a person to do. She was just a guest star. I haven't seen all of this season because Riverdale is a show you have to watch back to back to stay interested. I do like she showed compassion to the cast and crew of Riverdale for their loss.
