View Full Version : Unsolved Mysteries hairstyles
marlins3 05-08-2020, 10:01 PM This was inspired by some posts in the Chad Maurer thread. What are some of your favorite hairtsyles on UM? What hairstyle did you rock when you first started watching UM?
My vote for best hair goes to Jay Durham. It is a truly heartbreaking and frustrating segment but his hair is something to behold.
The actor portraying Art Silva also had classic hair. DC Cole (Dave Bocks segment) is sporting an interesting pony tail if you look closely. I remember some classic 80's looks in a couple lost love updates as well.
I was 9 when I first started watching UM (I somewhat remember some segments from season 2 but season 3 is the first season I remember watching every episode. I had a spike mullet then (a "spullet" if you will). Not proud of it. I don't deny it either.
Gelatinous Goo 05-09-2020, 12:15 AM That one photo of Randall Utterback where his hair is so unkempt.
Poor Howard Drummond in the Photo Mat pictures. Did he take the photos for identification purposes? Heck, the Photo Mat took $1.29 of his hard-earned cash. He could have had two thirds of a breakfast for that! If he didn't need them for any official reason, then why did he take them? That look on his face... Wish he would have sprung for the extra $5 a day to get a private bath.
The sister of the woman who kept going missing (Patricia?) and was miraculously found alive decades later. I would never have believed that women still wore beehives in the 90's...then I moved to a more rural part of the U.S. in the 2000's and saw that this ridiculousness was still going on (not to mention a proliferation of perms).
After binging on UM over the past week, it wasn't only the hair that stuck out. Can we please talk about the oversized glasses?! How have they made a comeback with today's youth?! They are the most horrid looking things. They take up half your face and could easily cover a bevy of Bonnie Wilder moles. Sorry, ladies. Not hot! ;)
1990 UM fan 05-09-2020, 04:38 PM Tracy Kirkpatrick's mother Diane and that mullet
Donna Chotvaks from the Wade Mitchell Parker segment and her fluffy nest of hair.
marlins3 05-09-2020, 08:37 PM I forgot all about Tracey Kirkpatrick's mom. Chotvaks is also a good one. Based solely on appearance, she struck me as very eccentric.
dynoguy88 05-11-2020, 09:28 AM I was 8, about to be 9 years old when I first started watching during season one.
I had the Beatles bowl cut only blonde. The little actor playing Scott Johnson in the shack fire segment could have been my twin, only my hair was a tad darker.
marlins3 05-11-2020, 10:09 AM Jeff MacDonald's attorney, Bernie Segal had awesome hair as well. Good comment earlier on the big glasses. One of the things that drove me crazy with the Farina reboot was the deletion of dates in a lot of the cases. It was especially strange since the show used updated graphics (and rather annoying music at times) but the video interviews would feature folks with hairstyles and glasses 15-20 years past their expiration date.
MegtheEgg86 05-16-2020, 09:48 AM -Cecil Trucel from the Gertrude Pruett segment's surprise ponytail you only see after he's been on camera for about ten minutes
-How has nobody pointed out whatever Debbie Tanner was doing with her bangs yet
-The silhouetted "motel resident" witness in the Neil Jennings segment
-The investigator from the Lori Zimmerman case and his toupee, which he actually had to TALK about during his interview
I nominate Lee Selwyn and his mother and sister for best styles, though. Every single one of them had beautiful hair.

I couldn’t find a pic of that. I remember it was astonishing

I forgot about her. Wasn't she (among the many women) married to Bo Tanner, the Rob Reiner lookalike?
I wish so much this segment made it to the FilmRise episodes on Amazon/FilmRise/Roku Channel, etc
DALLASTEXAN!! 05-19-2020, 12:33 PM wow what an idea for a thread. I also had a spullet in 1989 when I first started watching.
I hate to insult Geddy Lee, but randall utterback reminded me of him with that hair and glasses on one of the photos.
For some reason there are a couple of hairstyles that stick out in a crazy way. The wig sketch on the elaine parent segment. and the sketch of Lawrence Tutt from the Bill Henderson segment...that one scared the S out of me when I was a kid. It didn't help that I lived in Texas. Any mention of a murderer on the lose in my state would just give me the creeps. and his hair was so distinct that I could see that image in my head long after the show ended.
LooksLikeCRicci 05-20-2020, 02:54 PM I always get so excited when y'all mention Randall Utterback, because it makes me wonder if his die-hard supporters are going to come back out and yell at all of us.
Oh, good times, good times.

Still feel his name should legally be changed to 'Nerdy possessive boyfriend.'

I ALWAYS think of this when we talk about Randall Utterback.

Holds Denise at gunpoint in a rage and then tries to win her back with I sincere “I love you” That’s definitely the most nerdy and possessive moment in history.

Don't forget driving while forcing her to hold her feet out of the car--on a highway!

Yeah that whole sequence was crazy. Not a convincing way to get someone to take you back.
So the picture from the blind river rest stop suspect has a creepy hairstyle. Kind of bald on the top with hair longer that most.
ChandlerMurielB1 05-23-2020, 11:26 AM Dave Carlsen
The actor was about 50 years old playing an 18 year old, wearing a "Garth from Wayne's World" wig. It looked ridiculous and distracted me from the story!

Reminded me of Christopher Lloyd in Dennis the Menace--a character that actually still frightens me as an adult.

Was just watching the Alcatraz episode. The co-host covering the swimmers had epic 80s hair. Kind of like the singer in the “Take on Me” video
Omar the Satanist 10-11-2020, 08:58 AM Dave Bocks’ daughter had crazy hair — even though when the segment aired that 80s style was old news. Appalachia has always been a little behind, I guess.
ldub20owl316 10-11-2020, 09:25 AM Jenny Pratt had some classic hair
DazzlerSparkler 10-14-2020, 11:49 PM EXCUSE ME
The black wig of unnamed cult extra #3 in the DeCloud segment. It gets cut then reappears after 7 years

Big hair was the thing for girls in the late 80's. Check out any music video from those times and you'd most likely see this style...

From both men and women. I think half of the hair metal guys had this hair style.
