Kitten I mean. They made her to googly and smiley sweet for too long. I want to watch more episodes, but I am not sure I can take her another moment. She reminds me of Cindy Brady. Gross.

Well, at least she doesn't have a lisp!

To me, the small Kathy isn't nearly as annoying as Cindy.

If you haven't seen the later seasons, particularly 5 and 6, she's more tolerable after she shoots up. Cindy, not so much.

Yeah, she actually was my favorite character on Father Knows best !;) Well, her and Father , Mother too! ;) Not very fond of Bud really and of course not a fan of Betty's at all !!

Oh, how true! Betty was at her WORST when the country cousin (played by Susan Oliver) from Gurney (Betty had a really snotty way of saying it) visited.

Also Bud and Betty fought as typical brothers and sisters do, but on balance I think she was worse with him. She routinely dissed his friends and treated him like dirt.

Kathy (little girl Kathy) could be annoying at times, like when she traded something to her friend, for the friend's little sister. She continued to act pouty when they took the baby back, but finally after a long snit, she admitted to Jim she knew it was wrong. "If you knew it was wrong why did you continue to act out?" should have been the question. But most of the time I liked her, especially compared to Cindy (who couldn't even sneeze without drawing a visit from the doctor). Also, I think Lauren Chapin's acting was great.

How true! I think another post mentioned her on The Odd Couple, and I liked her on there, too.

I have to see that episode when Kathy acquires a baby sister. I really liked Robert Young especially in The Enchanted Cottage. Later it was embarrassing to see Kathy wrestling with boys and jumping all over ‘Carolyn Schuster’ who stopped being her friend. Trying to put her in a dress and patent leathers to get a boy was just wiggy.

Yeah Kathy was too old to be wrestling with Earl. A real Earl would have other thoughts at his age!

As far as Peacock goes, I'm interested to know if they're running those same tired syndicated, edited episodes that ended up on the FKB season 1 Shout DVD set. Many, but not all are syndication length, around 22 minutes. Back in the early 2000s TV Land got complete episodes, and re-edited them. Those are the episodes that Shout should have used.

I sincerely do not recall ever seeing an episode of FKB, prior to the 1990s.
It was culture shock for me in a way, because Marcus Welby M.D. was one of those shows my mother NEVER missed, so if I was going to watch TV at all in that timeslot, I was forced under duress to watch Marcus Welby......a show that ultimately I did not enjoy.

So, everything I ever learned about Jim Anderson, was filtered through Marcus Welby. Same thing with the Elinor Donahue character, it was always "wow, there's Ellie Walker back when she was jailbait."

I don't believe that I ever developed strong feelings one way or the other for any of the kids the way some of you appear to have. I guess that I just accepted them as a unit, a "challenge" for the parents to have to deal with. Each kid seemed to portray a believable role, in that respect, at least to my thinking.

In a somewhat odd quirk, for decades I mistakenly believed that Jane Wyatt was Ronald Reagan's first wife. Her often aloof demeanor seemed perfectly matched to what I would imagine would be compatible with Reagan. Oh the mistaken beliefs that we carry, huh?

That would be Jane Wyman.

That would be Jane Wyman.

Yes, that's easy to say now. But for years I didn't even care enough to look it up.

So, by the time reality finally came calling, it was a surprise. :happyface

There is just something about Jane Wyatt that I find spontaneously condescending.

Kitten's narcissism, otoh, never bothered me. I just figured "Oh, so that's where self-adoring princesses come from"

One thing is that her accent is definitely not midwest U.S., which Springfield supposedly is (although this is another program where we don't know the state). Her accent sounds like eastern U.S.

That is quite interesting, especially from the link provided by Alan Brady's Hair where it states the accent is a cultivated blend of both American and British English that were considered the most prestigious by the early 20th-century American upper class and entertainment industry. It is not a native or regional accent; instead, according to voice and drama professor Dudley Knight, it is an affected set of speech patterns "whose chief quality was that no Americans actually spoke it unless educated to do so"

So, I guess it would be fair to say that the mere employ of the accent would be blatantly pretentious.

This post was about Kathy. I must say after watching many episodes in seasons 1 and 2 I really think Kitten is cute and funny. Bud is the funniest especially his scenes with Jim. I just find Kathy acts like a typical little girl of the 50’s who gets in her siblings’ way, makes trouble and often loses confidence in herself. I was born later than Kathy in ‘55 but remember playing the same made up games as Kathy and being hurt by snotty girls. Betty was just too snobby for me. Kathy had some great moments. As for realizing that she couldn’t keep that real baby as her own she explained she was very stubborn. That was a very young Carolyn Schuster as Kathy’s friend.

Kathy stole that scene with Jim where she finally said, Oh, Daddy, you don't think I really thought I could keep that baby, do you? I'm just a little stubborn! (approx. dialog).

I had no idea the other girl was the later Carolyn Shuster on Beaver.

She was a pretty little girl and quite attractive older girl wrapping Eddie around her finger calling him Peachy and fixing her hair the way he likes. Now how would Eddie know about girls’ coiffures. I saw her on an episode of Rawhide.

To answer your question about Peacock I would say they are pretty complete episodes I’m watching. I notice I see scenes on Peacock that have been edited from Beaver on MeTV. FKB seems to be unedited.

Love how natural Jim Anderson acts with Bud. Some of those exchanges are a riot.

I think Kathy is hilarious, especially in the early episodes. In the season one episode where Bud moves out, Bud is packing the trunk, Kathy asks her dad what Bud is doing, so Jim says for Kathy to not to be upset and that Bud is moving out. Kathy replies "Can I have his room?"

Yes Kathy had some great moments. I saw an interview with Chaplin discussing her book way back and her way of speaking describing her appalling life was both animated and fascinating. She still had a talent for entertaining even though it was quite a sad story. She couldn’t tell her TV family any of her troubles. Chapin was more talented than Anissa Jones who had a horrid life too.

I hope she found peace.

So many of these kid actors had a horrible life. Studio time for some of them was probably heaven.

Yes they had some great stuff for Kathy in the early years. A few times they had her go off toward the stairs with the nobody loves me bit. Jim fell for it most of time

Kathy certainly held her own with Bud and fought with him like his contemporary. As she got older she could have been a bit more self conscious with a good looking boy even though she knew him well. Once I didn’t really like the guy in front of me in home room who would say hello but saw him one day differently and got self conscious. I think Kathy got too old to carry on like a child. I guess writers didn’t see the actors were growing up.

...I guess writers didn’t see the actors were growing up.

This may be one reason why older Beaver, and Kathy, got scripts where they are so childish and naive.

I saw Country Cousin and I thought how out of character it was for Betty to be so cruel to Millie. Couldn’t she see how pretty she was? Bud and Kathy really like her but Betty still thought she was a hick. Her father was very disappointed in her and rightly so but someone like that can’t change overnight. Betty was saying awful things about her and then did a 180 at the end and helped her get ready for the dance. Those three guys Betty knew were the ‘cream of the crop’ to me they were like 3 knuckleheads and the tall one looked about 32.

They looked like candidates for the Barons. (Club of nerds on LITB)

Yeah, this was Betty at her worst. She was pretty bad with a couple of oafs, Muly Orkin, a football player, and another clumsy guy near the end of the series.

I'm sure that the accent is part of it. But,..it's not ALL of it.

At times the expressions often on her face remind me of expressions I recall seeing on on the faces of relatives occasionally at family get togethers. The kind who stop you in passing to remind you how important it is to ~tie your shoes straight~, and stuff like that.

Kinda "Aunt Martha`ish", I guess. People who will spend half of the total time you will ever see them in your entire lifetime, to convince you that they have ascended, and that your goal should be to be more like them....

The older siblings were really, really nasty to Kathy when she was real small. As mean as mean can be!

Even in a later episode, when she hid in Bud's car so she could go bowling with him and Claude or Kippy, they found her and physically threw her out.

In an episode from season 2 where Jim was acting like a tyrant, she went in Betty's room, and you might think she had committed the worst crime in the world.
