I read on FB that they cut out a scene either in the kitchen or the driveway where Fred explains why Lumpy didn’t come. Fred says “I’m keeping the lad home this weekend to keep that algebra grade up, don’t want the boys from State giving any reason to keep the boy off the gridiron field, old man.”

I need to check that out. I've never heard that line.

This comment isn't in the episode, on the DVD. The episode times to 25:20, when most of them time 20 to 30 seconds longer than that. Probably means this is just another problem season 3 episode that they couldn't get the full episode on.

Finally found that FB comment, and replied. The guy could have been joking, but I doubt it.

I shouldn't have doubted it. He replied he was making it up.

The episode is still short and naturally I wonder why!

I didn’t read that he made it up. He wrote out the whole quote. I thought originally he made it up.

He just replied to me last night that he made it up. I probably would have been more likely to doubt it if the episode didn't run short on the DVD.

He's a real Beaver fan. It's sounded exactly like something Fred would say.

An observation/question I have about this episode:

Fred's "current" wife Gwen ( that is, whoever was playing her in this episode ) sure threw a lot of sardonic looks and snarky remarks at Fred every chance she got. Yes she does depict somebody beautiful, bright and witty ( and note the 'Vassar' reference from Fred ) and sure, Fred is a joke, but there was just something about some of the subtle cues of her expressions that seemed to have overtones of outright contempt, as if off screen she actually despised Richard Deacon.

You can see a similar dynamic on 'I Love Lucy'. Vivian Vance and Bill Frawley were said to have disliked each other off screen. You can tell by how well they "burn" each other so well, probably because they don't have to really "act".

Anyone else notice this?
