Would you have bought your kid a present after the lady didn’t send anything?

I might have put the ad in the paper, but any wallet is going to have ID in it.

No present, therefore no thank you note.

I probably would have told Beaver there are people who make promises like this, but don't come through. Maybe cited Uncle Billy.

I just wanted to say I once found a nun's wallet and I sent it back to her. I knew she was a nun because on her ID it said "Sister ____" :) She sent me a lovely thank you note and she kept me always in her prayers. That was in around maybe 1988.

Things are so different now though. An ad in the paper is so 1970. LOL

I know. Newspapers unfortunately are not read by many anymore. The only way you can buy a newspaper around here is at the grocery store. No more delivery. People used to buy the local newspaper to see who died. Now no one cares about the obituaries or the ads but of course there’s always FB. I think it’s neat how the newspaper is a central plot of LITB.

I think sending that thank you note to the wallet lady was perfect. If she has an ounce of brain she’ll remember that she forgot to repay that little boy who returned her wallet. She wouldn’t know what to do.

She'd probably be shamed into doing something. But getting the note, as you say, she might not know exactly what.

And people would communicate with each other via newspapers too, long ago. They would sometimes put ads in them saying where to meet. Like in that movie Suddenly Seeking Susan.

I miss newspapers sometimes. Not so much getting it myself, but the storyline potentials they offered TV shows and movies.

Now everything has to be about texting and websites. Which is okay too. I just miss some of the old storyline potential the older days provided.

Here in the midwest, we still can subscribe to the printed paper, and I do. It's mostly to do the puzzles. The subscription is pretty expensive--they're probably trying to price it out of existence. I really like their crossword--it easy enough for me to know most of the clues, but not full of ridiculous stuff nobody knows. You can look up answers online, but then why bother with the puzzle in the first place?

I get home delivery of our small local paper Newburyport MA News - was 6 days a week but now 4 because of CV (?) poor excuse, and it cost - get this - $307.80 a year - no wonder they are hurting with that price !

I found a ladies wallet in a carriage in the Walmart parking lot and found her phone number in it - called her and said I can bring it to her house and did - when I got there she grabbed it out of my hand, mumbled about it having all her money in it, she checked and all $120 was there, and next stormed away saying something about bad people ... I got no thank you and no reward - loser lady

Given that experience it's lucky she didn't claim there was more money in there than there really was. So much for doing the right thing!

Wow I’m blown away by her rudeness and sad to think it’s here in Mass. Hope it happened in another state. You actually brought it to her and she treated you like that? I would be appalled!! After calling her, could you tell she was rude? I would have said come and get it if you want it.

She was young / like 30, and on the phone see didn't even know she left it / lost it, she was very brief on the phone / kinda cold. And when I pull up to her house like 15 minutes later she didn't come out for many minutes, and then just was a jerk !

As Stevea said - I was lucky, you never know what to expect - she could have EVEN had some tough guy come at me LOL but she was the fighter type either way - not a happy camper ...

I usually say to myself ... some people do have serious stress (of some type) so let it go - ya never know what's going on in their life ..

After that experience I might call someone to tell them I found their wallet. If they act like a jerk I would hang up. Unfortunately these days they have your phone number. I think I’d start the conversation with small talk like is this Amanda Fuller. If they’re rude I’d hang up.

Or do what Beaver did and take it to the police station.

It was funny seeing Jess Kirkpatrick do the stereotypical Irish cop. You wouldn't see that anymore.

I though he would try to sell them some shoes or walk around the police station dumping trash.

Sounds like he should have been played by Howard Morris, who played a leprechaun on a Danny Thomas episode.
