More than half of Episode 20, the big prom episode, was filmed before the coronavirus shutdown, says showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. "So when it became clear that we weren’t gonna be able to finish the season, the first thing I kind of did was look at episode 20 to see if we could cobble together an episode from that," he adds. "And though we actually shot the prom, where a lot of dramatic stuff happened, there were so many emotional scenes with Archie and Veronica and Jughead and Betty that it felt like we just couldn’t quite do it." ALSO: Mädchen Amick used her Twin Peaks experience working with David Lynch in directing tonight's season finale (https://variety.com/2020/tv/features/riverdale-seson-4-finale-madchen-amick-directing-jughead-story-murder-vhs-tapes-interview-1234598838/).
Riverdale Season 5 will kick off with the planned last three episodes of Season 4 (https://ew.com/tv/riverdale-season-4-finale/)
"Yeah, we had written episodes 20, 21 and 22 and when we talked about season 5 and some of the big events like prom and graduation, it would feel like a cheat if we somehow didn't do those," says Riverdale showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa of the coronavirus-shortened Season 4. "So we're essentially starting the season with the last three episodes of season 4, and partly because they're dynamite episodes. I mean big, big, big changes happen. We are continuing the mystery and the relationship drama straight into season 5." ALSO: Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols will return next season for a proper sendoff (https://tvline.com/2020/05/06/riverdale-recap-season-4-finale-prom-graduation/).
