TVOne will be celebrating Janet Jackson's birthday Saturday May 16th with a "Penny Party", showing episodes of "Good Times" featuring Penny.

Janet appeared on FOL's parent show DS as Willis's girlfriend Charlene for several seasons. Her "Good Times" mom is our own Kim Fields' real mother Chip Fields, and her new adoptive mom on there is played Ja'net DuBois, who was the Sylvia's mother in FOL's "Brian and Sylvia". And Janet's brother Jermaine, of course, is the infamous guest star in "Starstruck".

Oh, and apparently she can sing. :lol:

Wow, I post this thread, and not a couple hours later I'm seeing Penny's first episode of 'Good Times" for the first time. FINALLY I'm seeing the horribleness that Kim Field's mom portrayed in 1977.

And strangely enough, looking at the episode guide, most of GT's seasons spanned from July to February---!

But I would never peg her for an abusive mother---she's so small! I never realized how petite she is, because Mrs. Garrett and Tootie are short too, so she doesn't seem short on FOL. But she sure is small next to JJ and Wilona and Thelma.

Just a reminder of this event if anyone wants to see Mrs. Garrett's former employer's adopted son's girlfriend's actress on TV.

May 16th this year also marks the 30th anniversary of Jim Henson's untimely passing, so I may record some of the Janet shows for another date because I'll be spending Saturday memorializing Jim (kind of a yearly thing for me).
