I posted this on the other Antenna thread but thought this news should get its own thread for those who haven't seen it. I had sent Antenna TV a message about if they were eliminating or reducing E/I like other networks have in 2020. They said E/I will be reduced to one hour from the current three starting in September when Who's the Boss? joins. Hopefully it is the 9AM hour that remains E/I, with 10AM-noon becoming entertainment sitcoms.

Don’t mean to sound ignorant, but what’s E/I?

Educational and informative (E/I) programs required since 1991 because of the Children's Television Act.

I actually don't mind these shows. Some of them are more interesting than the low-rated sitcoms these stations might plop into a Sat/Sun morning time slot.

Down with E/I!

Peggy Charren and ACT ruined TV/cartoons in the late 1960s and those stale E/I shows feel like leftovers from those misguided times.

Don’t mean to sound ignorant, but what’s E/I?The post below yours explained it. Through the end of 2019, broadcast networks were required to air 3 hours a week of E/I shows. Where Antenna TV airs them is from 9AM-noon on Saturdays. Those legal requirements basically went away this year, with other diginets like BUZZR going down to one hour and LAFF totally removed them. Antenna TV told me their E/I shows would go down to one hour from the current three when Who's the Boss? joins in September.

Thanks for explaining. While these types of shows don’t ring my bell, 3 hours out of 168 isn’t a big deal to me. And of course, 1 out of 168 even less so.

I really, really, really don't wanna get political, but you know what, this needs to be said:

E/I requirements violate free speech
