The kids today can't even go to a friends house on the next street without being driven in a $70,000 SUV! Good point. We played in old antique cars from the 20’s in an old garage. I remember the upholstery was unusual and the shift had an ivory knob. The owner didn’t care what we did. I would love to see one now.

How did we survive? We climbed high in trees, we had no child car seats other than the seat that came with the car, and no seat belts. There were no SUVs but there were plenty of station wagons.

And times were good. After a hard day playing, we came in and watched Beaver, Ozzie and Harriet, and Hazel. And I remember watching reruns of Life of Riley, a totally forgotten show.

Times have changed more in the last 30 than they did from 1930 to 1960. It probably seemed the same to the greatest generation when TV came in and kids spent too much time on the floor watching. “ You’re going to ruin your eyes.” We still were out playing all day getting exercise and exploring. Covid-19 would not have happened in 1970 even with the hippies. Do you know before the word hippie came into use my mother use that for a friend of mine I thought that was a riot. Anyway we made memories far from what kids are doing. I know this person and I know she’s gone nuts not able to have an active social life boo-hoo.

You're going to ruin your eyes--I remember that one. Go outside without your coat--you'll catch cold. Sirens that were tested were called air raid sirens. We grew up kind of in fear of Communism (an early comment on Beaver when he was selling water, for example). All the kids were getting vaccinations against the polio VIRUS--yes, bad viruses have been around probably since the beginning of time--the common cold, for example, which has never had a cure, or the flu, which has variations year to year which can only be guessed upon. And now we have actresses going on social media in tears about running low on makeup, or being cooped up in their mansions.

Hi guess I’m cynical but can’t stand stupid feel good stories on national news about kids donating their tooth fairy money to first responders. That’s not news that’s “so what are you doing to help out” news.

I am grateful for the work of essential workers, but I'm getting a little tired of hearing about it constantly on TV and radio.

It’s like the only news is the crisis. I also am grateful for the hard working healthcare workers that, I hope, are getting time to breathe but don’t care how the rich are dealing with their down time. The only non-Covid-19 news is Biden’s 27 year old encounter with an office worker.

Mute is My Friend plus I usually have the tv volume very low (barely audible) with the close captions on - I have learned lots because the closed captions tell info otherwise not give - like music / song names, footsteps, cars sputtering ... LOL

side note - my parents used to yell often "Go Out & Play" with no regard as to where I may go or who I'd be with (maybe ages 8 and up) (olden days were better days) before the Nanny State leaders took over child raising +-

The media continues to scare everyone about the 2019 Coronavirus. No one wants it, we do need to take sensible precautions--I know someone who died from it--but at some point fairly soon this country must come to some semblance of normality or we won't have a country left.

Re go out and play, yes--I heard that a lot! Re Nanny state--remember, it takes a village!
