80s Dude 04-29-2020, 10:32 AM I wonder would Mindy be able to answer who the guy was between Julie Ann and Felice in the Dennie's photo. The thing is her memory recall doesn't seem to be pretty good.
80s Dude 04-29-2020, 10:33 AM Mindy and Glenn from 1983 so they have known one another for quite a long time. https://c8.alamy.com/comp/GD8XJX/glenn-scarpelli-with-mindy-cohn-7th-oct-2005-roger-karnbadzuma-wirealamy-GD8XJX.jpg

They didn't, which was a real bummer. Apparently you had to send in questions ahead of time? That sucks.
But Mindy did share some new behind-the-scenes info which was great to hear!
80s Dude 04-30-2020, 09:24 PM Mindy did say that the some of the producers did go to Westlake to get plot ideas as well as the actresses real life happenings.

I loved when she shared about Bea Arthur sending them notes about how proud of her/them she was!
And it was so cool to hear her talk about "Fear Strikes Back". And also how her last name became "Green"!
And how she was insecure being around Kim "Mrs. Butterworth" Fields and the Mickey Mouse Club girls and feeling so "fish out of water". And the Charlotte love!

Yes! I adored the fact that they showed each actor/actress a clip of his/her own acting. That was nice because then we could see not only their reactions but their peers' reactions.
It was also really cool that everyone (except Jill) shot at the same studio (which would have been Metromedia Square, at least at first), working "just a few feet" from one another. Mindy mentioned working next to One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, Diff'rent Strokes, A Different World, Married with Children and Who's the Boss, though by the end, it must have been Sunset Gower.
Funny that they mentioned Circus of the Stars and Battle of the Network Stars, and Mindy says of Battle "They never asked me... I wonder why!?" So funny!
'80sSitcoms 05-01-2020, 01:07 AM Yeah, the CotS thing, "They never asked me---I WONDER WHY", lol...I was like, oh man, host, how does that foot taste in your mouth?

I always liked Kari. She still looks great and has made a career out of being a speaker, hostess, and interviewer. I saw she offered her condolences to Nancy for the loss of her brother Phillip on her facebook page. She and Nancy were very close growing up on TV.

Who were the other child stars that appeared?
80s Dude 05-02-2020, 03:39 PM Who were the other child stars that appeared?
McKenzie Phillips and Glenn Scarpelli of One Day at a Time so it was very One Day at a Time centered, Jill Whelan of the Love Boat, and Danielle Brisebrois of All in the Family/Archie Bunker's Place made a surprise appearance.
'80sSitcoms 05-02-2020, 06:30 PM They kept saying "everyone looks great!" "you all look great!" "Mack you look great!", but I thought Mack looked rough. Don't get me wrong, I think what she's doing with her life is absolutely fantastic, I just think what she's been through shows.

Idt she looks bad, i think Mindy looks the worst tbh. Not that she looks bad, she just prob isnt getting surgeries and botox like some others.

Well, Mack still looked better than Justine Bateman.
Mackenzie giving back to the addict community is very inspiring, IMO.
Lorimar Television 05-02-2020, 09:00 PM Agreed, she really overcame A lot

True. Still, such a rough life (and a very interesting book). It was her neck that immediately caught my attention. It looked quite older.
Glenn looked great---he looked so young!

Well, they're not going to say, "Glenn, you look great! So young! So vibrant. And Mackenzie... Doesn't Glenn look great?"
'80sSitcoms 05-03-2020, 02:01 AM lol, I know, you always tell people they look good, but it's just truer for some than others.
McKenzie Phillips and Glenn Scarpelli of One Day at a Time so it was very One Day at a Time centered, Jill Whelan of the Love Boat, and Danielle Brisebrois of All in the Family/Archie Bunker's Place made a surprise appearance.
Thanks.
cfr1970 05-03-2020, 11:28 AM I finally got to see it last night since live broadcasts on YT usually take a couple of days to get captioned.
I felt badly for Mackenzie's connection going in and out and her unable to hear the others during the broadcast. You'd think these people would have perfect internet connection!
I like how she turned her life around and is working to help others now. It's really admirable and I hope she's really clean and sober and not getting strung out in secret while doing all this to help others. That's the cynicism part of me talking haha.
I don't think she looked bad at all though considering. She's 60 and had a rough life so it's going to show a little and it doesn't look like she did awful things to her face in an attempt to cling to her youth....Which leads me to---
Jill Whelan and Danielle Brisebois. Oh you poor shallow women! Jill looked like she was wearing a mask with those Botox injections and well on her way to Catwoman Pillow Face. I'm frightened to see what this woman will look like in 10 years!
Brisebois obviously has a much better plastic surgeon and fared better. But still has that artificial look to her face. I watch her on Archie Bunker's Place on Antenna TV and she looks totally different from there. I mean, it's like a whole new face lol.
I know she was only 13 or 14 on that show and is now 50, but the difference is staggering. Both Jill and Danielle seemed like sweet people so i'm not going to harp on it. If it makes them happy that's all that matters I guess. :)
I think Mindy looked good! She obviously hasn't had any work done and looked very natural. I didn't really learn anything new from her, except that she hung out with all the others who seemed to film their shows all on the same studio lot which is weird since some were CBS and FOL was NBC? Did networks share studios?!
She looked bored a few times and seemed to be texting on her phone while others were talking lol. I HATE when people do that. I had a friend who did that and I swear I wanted to shove that phone up her.....well you get the picture! :smash:
And that grandma smock she was wearing did absolutely nothing for her! puke:
Glenn was the only one interesting since he was really outgoing and personable during the whole interview like he was genuinely enjoying himself. What he said about Bonnie was really nice and I got sad when learning she knew she was on her way out and said her goodbye to him during a final Thanksgiving get together. That must have been so rough. :(
He did slightly annoy me with his excessive laugh. I know people like that who laugh a little too hard at everything like they're overcompensating. Reel the laughing in just a little. My God he was like a crazed hyena at times!
Overall I really enjoyed it and watched the entire thing through. I never heard of this channel before but will check it out again to see what other stars they interview. Hopefully they do a FOL reunion at some point!!
RetroGuy2000 05-03-2020, 04:36 PM I didn't really learn anything new from her, except that she hung out with all the others who seemed to film their shows all on the same studio lot which is weird since some were CBS and FOL was NBC? Did networks share studios?!
Yes, they did. Starting in the 1960s, many television programs were taped at Metromedia Square (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metromedia_Square), a third-party studio facility which had much more space than CBS, NBC, and ABC had available. Metromedia Square produced shows for all three networks, as well as syndicated independent productions and their own productions. So it was very common to have side-by-side productions for TV series that were on different networks.
Metromedia was a chain of independent television stations and the successor to the DuMont Television Network, the world's first commercial television network, founded in 1946. Metromedia's facilities were eventually purchased by Rupert Murdoch in 1985, and those facilities were then used to produce shows on the Fox network.
Even today, many, even most, TV series are recorded at studios outside of the networks' studio facilities. For example, I know Mom is produced at the Warner Bros Burbank Studios, even though it airs on CBS.
For FOL, production started at Metromedia Square, then moved to Universal Studios, and finally Sunset Gower Studios.
And that grandma smock she was wearing did absolutely nothing for her! puke:
I think, right now, with many of us stuck at home, wearing our lazy house clothes, we can identify!

Yeah, I think it's cool that kids from different shows, and even different networks, could mingle. I remember Alison Arngrim (Nellie on Little House) saying that she was specifically told not to hang out with the kids from Diff'rent Strokes, so apparently they had already developed a reputation.

Didn't she have her own troubles growing up? I seem to remember her going through a rebellious phase after Little House ended. Or maybe i'm confusing Alison with her character Nellie.
Did you get your DVDs yet?
I've been watching the tracking like a hawk! It says Thursday delivery, but it's already in Jacksonville which isn't too far away so i'm hoping for Tuesday. I already missed 2 season 8 episodes I need to catch up on.
Then i'm going to just run through the rest of the series quick so I can start from the beginning quicker! I'm enjoying season 8, but I prefer when the girls are younger. It's almost like watching Designing Women they're so old towards the end.:wave:

As far as I know, Allison was never in any trouble.

For me, it's not about their ages; for me, the show sort of... collapsed in upon itself. The characters starting drifting away from who they were, we had a bunch of random characters no-one cared about, and most of the original cast was gone. The producers couldn't even figure out where the garage should be. The kitchen became a storage room; there were two back doors within feet of one another. The writers seemed to cling to each new fad to come along. We're lucky the show was cancelled in 1988, or we would soon have seen Jo and Tootie in Hammer pants, while Natalie would have had one of those Blossom hats!

You have a good point because Tootie actually wore a blue cowboy hat during a scene in season 8 that aired recently looking ridiculous on her head, especially walking around indoors so I could definitely see those Blossom hats and Hammer pants on them too. Especially Jo with her penchant for oversized outfits. OMG you now make me glad they ended when they did too, because all that was probably coming right around the corner! :brent
And already they're starting to tease Jo's hair a bit too much in season 8. It's slowly becoming wilder and higher with each episode until it reaches a fever pitch in season 9 from a picture I saw here of her. It looks like a rats nest by that point!
The Eastland years and even the first year of Edna's Edibles, the girls dress and hairstyles were much more conservative and the look was more timeless which I prefer.
As for that garage from hell, and the Black Hole behind the stairs, I just gave up on it. The whole damn house is some kind of otherworldly shapeshifter.
Even the stairs going up to the bedrooms leads to a door that would make them fall down to the front door outside after walking through it!

Who knows where the fashion would have led? All I know is they kept following the latest fashion trends in an effort to keep the ratings up. In retrospect, it just ended up dating the show.

I do remember her hair getting larger and curlier, as more and more Aquanet was applied. I suspect the series was cancelled when they realized their insurance wouldn't cover them with that much hairspray under those hot studio lights.

Yes, ironically, the Eastland uniforms and conservative hairstyles did end up providing a timeless look: you can't say "Wow, those outfits scream 1982!"
As for that garage from hell, and the Black Hole behind the stairs, I just gave up on it. The whole damn house is some kind of otherworldly shapeshifter.
:lol::lol::lol::lol:
Even the stairs going up to the bedrooms leads to a door that would make them fall down to the front door outside after walking through it!
That's the only part I can see possibly working: if there was an overhanging ledge beyond that door, there might be room for the landing to turn towards the "fourth wall". Sure, it requires fan interpretation, but it's the only part that seems feasible to me.
By the end, it's clear the producers had given up even providing the girls with a house that made sense. They started using the same interstitial music as Silver Spoons. The scripts stopped making much sense. The girls (except for Lisa) were clearly ready to move on. And Jo's husband was tacked on at the last minute.
The series kinda fizzled out, but I enjoyed the finale, so there is that.
cfr1970 05-04-2020, 10:59 AM I don't remember the cowboy hat, but I'll take your word for it!

...You'll be seeing more cowboy hats, as I believe Permpa wears one in Season 9...

If it's on Permpa it will be welcome!
cfr1970 05-04-2020, 11:25 AM Blair with Permpa's hair.
valentina warner 05-04-2020, 04:57 PM I believe TOOTIE got the inspiration from DONNA SUMMER: on the video clip "This time i know it's for real" (from 1989) she wore almost the same kind of hat, as did KYLIE MINOGUE on most of her video clips in the late 1980 s (PIPPA/PIMPA got inspired by her Aussie pal):lol::lol::lol
:tiphat::tiphat::tiphat:
valentina warner 05-04-2020, 05:40 PM Didn't she have her own troubles growing up? I seem to remember her going through a rebellious phase after Little House ended. Or maybe i'm confusing Alison with her character Nellie.
It's almost like watching Designing Women they're so old towards the end.
Hey cfr1970 you're absolutely right!
I also prefer the early seasons for the same reason as you: the girls dressed definitely a lot better, they wore their hair nicely too (i liked JO better with her ponytail as with her wavy big hair).
Not to mention NAT & TOOTIE wardrobe is horrendous: they totally dress like middle aged 'Golden girls' clones in their 50 s (instead of chicks in their late teens)!!!:eek::eek:
Also, the FOL stories are a lot more interesting from season 1 until season 6 (when MRS G was around to guide them of course): i love how they always got in trouble together, and their life learning lessons were full of depth....
Which reminds me: in tonight's episode 'THE REUNION', i have to say i found very hilarious and couldn't stop myself from laughing!!!
First of all, they were going on about the reunion like they were all a bunch of middle aged! (again like 'Golden girls') talking about FAILED marriages??? I thought GEORGE was in his 20 s (not 50 s!!!!)
But the best part of it, was BLAIR's date: a NERD with capital N!!! And the ending, when she tries to hide under the table is hilarious!:lol::lol:
As for the plot: it was good and very entertaining, but again: JO looked TERRIBLE in BLAIR's dress i'm sorry!!!!
Oh yes i almost forgot: there was ABSOLUTELY no need for STREET URCHIN ANDY!!! Why was he in there in the first place??? Just to get into people's face:mad::mad::mad:
The ending is my favourite part thought: first when BLAIR shows up, full of remorse for letting GEORGE down (which actually made things worse for his 'old flame') then TOOTIE and NAT's appearance was so unexpected....
And when NAT comes up with the story about the evil twin and says looking at BLAIR: "i was going to make you the good sister" i burst out laughing: YEAH RIGHT!!!!:D:D:D

I really like The Reunion even though it's a George focused one. Thankfully his time on screen is limited and we see Jo more. I also liked how Nat & Tootie crashed the party at the end and it was funny how they just showed up there.
I forgot what the dress looked like but remember I liked how she looked so I don't think it could've been that bad...Now I have to search you tube to see another look....LOL I can't find it because the show title is "The Reunion" so when I do a search the only thing that comes up is the reunions the cast did ugh.
They should've put more thought into that show title! I'll have to give it a rewatch when my dvd's come in. I think it was a white or silver dress Jo wore?!

It was a good episode indeed, and you're right about THE REUNION: i also tried to find it on YouTube but when i clicked on it, THE REUNION 2001 came instead boohoo!:eek::eek:
And so, i had to watch it my mobile phone tiny screen (which is where i downloaded DAILY MOTION in the first place)....
Now about the dress: i don't know, but i think BLAIR looks definitely more elegant in it, and she also moves with grace (whereas JO walks kind of clumsy in it and i'm not saying it to be nasty).....:rolleyes::rolleyes:
