In the episode Arnold's Bad Rep, wasn't it funny how Arnold and his friends kept using the expression 'breaking the sound barrier' when referring to sex? Why couldn't they just say 'sex'? The sound barrier thing just sounded so silly and unnatural. At least they could have had them say 'do it' or something like that, but 'breaking the sound barrier'?! Never heard that one before. LOL. I wonder what the writers were thinking. Did they think it wouldn't be realistic to have them use the word 'sex?' Or did the 'standards' people at ABC step in and forbid them to use that word? So funny how times have changed.
And in a totally unrelated note: What's up with that lame stock footage of the outside of the building from the street view? I have seen that exact same shot in several of the later episodes. Its funny how whenever they show the outside of the building, the same bus just happens to be rolling by that exact spot.

Well maybe the bus was scheduled to come around that same time. I know when I'd take the bus in NYC, buses were on a set schedule.

I think they copied The Cosby Show with those outside views. In TCS almost every new scene in a different building starts with an outside view of the building. DS outside shot sucked though. I didn't like it.
That breaking the sound barrier remark was so annoying! The thought of his little preteen friends having sex is hilarious.. they look like they're 10!!

It seems to me that in different times, you see them talking about sex but in different words. And that scene with the bus was pretty cheap. I think it was funny that it just so happens that the bus is there at the same exact time.

They do this on almost every show iv'e noticed. On certain shows they refer to sex as hitting a homerun, while on others they just use hand signals, or make there eyebrows go up, and down, stuff like that. I was watching a Family Ties episode the other night and sex was referred to as visiting someones teepee. In some cases I think they do this to make a joke, like in the teepee referance, but I agree the sound barrier thing as a definition of sex was pretty dumb!

I watched this episode back for the first time last night, it was quite funny except for some points-
That whole "breaking the sound barrier" thing was completely stupid, as if 15 year olds would say that in real life. Why are they so afraid to use the word sex?
I also thought it was a stupid ending- the whole episode is showing the problem that someone could have if all their friends have had sex and they haven't, so they end it by saying that none of them have done it- so there is no problem.
I don't know why they brought in that view of the street before the scene, it must have been a populer thing in sitcoms at the time and they didn't want to loose out.
