View Full Version : The Cruel Ageism of COVID-19 Threatens to Temporarily Purge Older Actors from the
James28 04-25-2020, 01:10 AM Screen
This report, from Deadline's Nellie Andreeva, tells me that series who have senior-citizen actors in their main cast, like Grace and Frankie, Blue Bloods, and NCIS, will have to be rethought to protect such iconic performers who are in the high-risk category for serious COVID-19 complications. Whenever possible, storylines could be adjusted to have their characters isolated from the rest of the ensemble — reflecting real life — so they can film scenes from the safety of their homes, or their involvement could be temporarily scaled back in favor of other characters.

What about the 99.999% of seniors who aren't LUCKY enough to be an actor?? Many of them live ONLY on social security and/or pension!
Hollywood seniors are generally in MUCH better shape than your average senior!

Yet the younger ones are moaning about being cooped up in their mansions that they need a map to navigate. I even saw one millennial-age actress nearly in tears because she was running low on makeup.
Coffeecup 04-26-2020, 09:21 PM I didn't think any show was group filming with the virus. I expected shows to rerun what they had. Other than news programs, and even then some are Zoom type programs I would think they would just rerun for awhile. I did see snippets of talk show Ellen and she is sitting at home.

Even older ones like Ellen Degeneres. What a disgusting HYPOCRITE!

Hollywood seniors are generally in MUCH better shape than your average senior!Acting IS a real job that often has long hours, it is a lot more than the finished product that viewers see. Tom Selleck on Blue Bloods and Mark Harmon on NCIS do a lot on their shows, it is insulting to them to say they don't have real jobs.

Come on! Acting is NOT like being on your feet from 9 to 5 in a restaurant, grocery store, gas station, Wal Mart, hospital, firehouse, police station, etc. for a PITTANCE compared to what Hollywood actors make!
In fact Sherman Hemsley of Jeffersons fame specifically said he got into acting to AVOID getting a 9 to 5 job! Even very successful rock stars admit what they do is very privileged. Paul Stanley is the co-founder of one of the most successful bands on earth, KISS. He once said he got in a band to AVOID getting a REAL job!
So my point is being a music star or a Hollywood actor are NOT 9 to 5 jobs that the vast majority of Americans have!

Being a surgeon is not a 9-5 job either. So according to your ridiculous logic, surgeons don't have "real jobs" either.

Could you do it? NO? Then why judge? Just because they don't work 9-5 jobs does not mean that they don't work. Acting and performing are real jobs and true art can not be confined to the hours of 9-5.

LOL..I see you lack any kind analytical thought.
Surgeons can potentially be on their feet for even longer than your average workers and can work a LOT more than 40 hours a week!
It's laughable to compare your average workers to Hollywood millionaires who get everything at their beck & call!

They wouldn't exist without those celebrities who put in long hours to entertain us, some of them millionaires but many of them not well-known to the public who don't make as much.

You are the one who complained about how people who don't work 9-5 don't have real jobs.

Hollywood has now become an arm of the DNC! Even actors like Mark Wahlberg said Hollywood has gotten TOO political & actors should keep their political ideologies to themselves.
So these Hollywood actors should know they're turning off HALF the country by SHOVING their politics in our faces!
Plus way less than 1% of Americans are involved with Hollywood anyway. You cannot compare it to the tens of MILLIONS of Americans who work for little more than minimum wage!

Remember a 9 to 5 job is 40 hours a week. As I said surgeons usually work MORE than 40 hours a week doing something very tedious & difficult where they may have to be on their feet for HOURS without sitting down.
Not simply memorizing lines from a script & even that isn't as necessary these days since actors can get help digitally!

What about reality tv stars who occasionally played themselves in cameo guest spots in the 80, 90s and Aughts. Should they stay out of politics too?

Yeah, you said that after I brought up that surgeons do not work 9-5 and I said that because you are the one who said that people who don't work 9-5 jobs don't have real jobs. You might try not changing the subject.

Methinks someone is sniffing glue again. Anyway, I don't get this logic that because someone doesn't work 9-5 they don't have real jobs. To me a real job is one that pays. Reminds me of when I used to model. As you probably know modeling isn't a typical job and very few (even supermodels) work a 40 hour 9-5 shift, but models can make more than a regular job. I was modeling (and attending college) and I had a relative tell me to get a "real" job and when asked told me they meant to apply at a place like McDonalds. I was making more in a day's work than I would make in a week there, and work more hours why would I want to work more hours in a crappy job?

The glue sniffer will tell you that modeling is not a real job.

Of course. I never liked this whole "real job" garbage because it's not true. If you get paid it's a job. Some people can't or don't want to do "real jobs" so I guess by that logic they aren't working?
James28 05-24-2020, 01:37 AM If these older actors really are kept away from their on-screen roles for safety reasons, will this affect episode orders for shows' 2020-21 seasons (whether they're extended, shortened, or staying the same)?
And on the suggestion that any episodes of broadcast shows' 2019-20 seasons that couldn't be produced because of the COVID-19 pandemic would be added to their orders for next season, it's dependent on whether there's any further disruption from the pandemic this fall or next year. Plus, most shows on The CW network won't start their next seasons until January.
