When this whole "takeout only" thing started, I went to this restaurant I love called "The Old Spaghetti Factory" and got takeout. It only took about 30 minutes from the time I walked in ordered and got my food. There was one employee working in the lobby and about five of us waiting. It was a good experience and the woman was really nice. Even gave me a root beer for while I was waiting.
They'd been closed for a while (due to lack of money) and tonight they reopened so I ordered online and went to pick it up. I stated that I wanted the stuff to be ready about 5:45 to give myself time. So about 5:15 I left my condo and got to the restaurant about 5:30. There were about 7 people in there waiting as well and people kept coming in. As before there was only one guy running orders and I don't know how many people were working in the kitchen but I'm guessing only about one or two.
It took a long, long time to get my order and I think that they lost it or something because the guy kept coming over asking me what I ordered. But when I finally got my food I'd been in there about two hours.
Yes, I know that's a very long time to wait, but what ticked me off was how rude some of the customers were. They were making comments about how long it was taking and one woman even got in the guy's face and yelled at him b/c she had requested that her order be ready by 6:02 and it was 6:04. Yes, really! I had to get up and move to the bar from the lobby b/c I was so ticked off at the way these people were treating the employee.
I wanted to scream at them that they didn't have to order from the restaurant and they could have freaking STAYED AT HOME and eaten there or gone through the drive thru of a restaurant! The funny thing is that this place is crazy busy on Friday and Saturday nights and my husband and I have waited upwards of an hour to get a table so I don't think it's so different than waiting a long time for food. But I hate when people treat service employees so badly. It wasn't the guy's fault that they were short staffed. I heard him say that they had just gotten money from the government to reopen so they could pay their employees. He was telling people that tomorrow they are going to have more staff and things should be better.
I admit I was getting a little annoyed but they finally gave me my food and he said he wasn't goign to charge me. I told him I'd ordered online and he said he was going to credit the whole thing. On one hand I feel bad b/c I know they need the money to stay open, but on the other hand it was nice getting free dinner. I'm going to order from there again soon but it just ticks me off that people think that they can treat people like that. I've never worked in a restaurant but I've worked in plenty of retail places and even when I worked in Transportation, people would treat us really badly. My husband even asked me why I had to take that off of people. Unfortunately, that was the only way to keep my job. Oh the irony of that statement.
