What was her issue? Did she think she was going to become a movie star? Illness?

Her career pretty much eroded after Dynasty.

I don't know what happened on Nancy Drew, but Martin left Dynasty because her husband at the time was financing a feature film that she was set to star in, a vehicle for her, obviously.

The film, Torchlight, bombed, and so did her career. Her marriage tanked as well, so I would say she made the wrong move leaving Dynasty.
