View Full Version : What piece of furniture/set dressing would you love to have from the show?
'80sSitcoms 04-21-2020, 09:49 PM You can pick a piece of furniture or "set dressing" from each of the 4 eras of the show:
The Dorm (season 1)
The Cafeteria (seasons 2-4)
Edna's Edibles (seasons 5, 6)
Over Our Heads (seasons 7-9)
Choosing only ONE piece of furniture or set dressing from whichever eras you'd like to have one from, what would you pick?
(not props---there's a separate thread for those)

Season 1 I would take the highboy chest of drawers that is in Mrs. Garretts bedroom.
Season 2 I would take the vending machine from the lounge.
Season 5 I would take the Edna's Edibles Sign
Season 7 A silly item from the store.

The Dorm (season 1) The grandfather clock
The Cafeteria (seasons 2-4) The candy machines
Edna's Edibles (seasons 5, 6) The Edna Edible's sign
Over Our Heads (seasons 7-9) An inflatable penguin I guess 🐧

Ha! We matched 2 & 3 and I chose without peeking at the replies. You'll have to fight me for the Edna Edibles sign!:wave:

I almost said the grandfather clock for Season1....but I chose the highboy chest. It was a tough decision.
RetroGuy2000 04-21-2020, 11:52 PM The Dorm (season 1) - definitely the SECOND grandfather clock, not the first one. The more whimsical one.
The Cafeteria (seasons 2-4) - the lounge couch
Edna's Edibles (seasons 5, 6) - the cash register!
Over Our Heads (seasons 7-9) - maybe the bizarre second door at Stage Left?
Lorimar Television 04-22-2020, 12:14 AM The Dorm (season 1)- The Grandfather clock!!!!
The Cafeteria (seasons 2-4)- The silver contraption maybe?
Edna's Edibles (seasons 5, 6)- The Edna’s Edible Sign
Over Our Heads (seasons 7-9)- The neon sign
80s Dude 04-22-2020, 10:04 AM The Dorm: The piano.
The Caferteria: The vending machines.
After the Eastland Years, I didn't really watch the show much so I can really say there.
'80sSitcoms 04-22-2020, 02:09 PM Holy cow lots of you folks want the same things!
The Cafeteria (seasons 2-4)- The silver contraption maybe?
Okay, Lorsie, WHAT in the HECK is "the silver contraption"???
'80sSitcoms 04-22-2020, 02:12 PM The Dorm - maybe Seņor Tiger? That way it "accidentally doubles" as a set dressing for the dorm AND the cafeteria years, so I get away with picking it as "season 1", heehee ;)
The cafeteria - Retro, I was thinking about the lounge couch too!!
EE - Maybe the Edna chalkboard sign?
OOH - The bigger-sized inflatable palm tree :)
RetroGuy2000 04-22-2020, 02:13 PM Holy cow lots of you folks want the same things!

Is it maybe an ice cream machine?
RetroGuy2000 04-22-2020, 02:15 PM Holy cow lots of you folks want the same things!
Yeah, but I specified the second grandfather clock, so they can fight over the first one. ;)

Leaving us to maybe fight over the couch!
Or someone could claim Natalie and Tootie's bunk beds and invite a buddy over for a "Facts"-a-thon!

Hoagie78 04-22-2020, 05:57 PM The silver contraption appears to be a soft serve ice cream maker.

Indeed.
Lorimar Television 04-22-2020, 07:27 PM Haha well I do like soft serve ice cream

Very true! We want humongous marshmallow sundaes with vanilla ice cream!

I think of you guys every time I wash my hair in the tub or the shower! My hair is so long at this point that every time I wash my hair with so much shampoo, the top of my head feels like it turns into a Moby Dick sundae!  :D

Get a clipper and just buzz it off. I do that every couple of months with a #4 clipper guard leaving a 1/2 inch of hair even all around. Then in 2 months I do it all again. Haven't paid for a haircut in years!

NO! Are you crazy?? This is FUN!! :woohoo: I've never had longer hair before! And I love playing with it!
This is AMAZING. My hair is longer than ALL of the headmasters' hair, ALL of the male teachers' hair, ALL of the girls' dads' hair, Diane's hair, Evie's hair, Cousin Geri's hair, Street Urchin's hair, season 1 & 2 Tootie's hair, season 1 1979 Natalie's hair, AND entire 1980s Molly's hair. WOW. I NEVER thought I would have my hair grow out this much! It's so fun!!
Short-haired Tootie, Natlie, Molly: :triplets

Nice on saving money! I used to usually get what I called my "seasonal cut": just let my hair grow out "some", and then every 3 or 4 months I'd go in and get it "shorn down" to 1/2 an inch on the sides, with the top cut down and styled with thinning sheers. But I've never tried it myself.
Nice barbershop pole! patriot:
cfr1970 04-23-2020, 01:14 AM It helps when you're old like me :grr: and don't give a flip for styling hair anymore. Back in the 80's/90's I used more hair product than the Core Four put together. I went through so many bottles of gooey hair gel and ultra mega freeze spray it's a wonder i'm not bald.:lol:
Oh how I miss those 80's hairstyles. The kids today know nothing about good hair! :cheer:

Oh, and I misspoke above---I wouldn't get the sides of my hair shorn down to 1/2 an inch---it was more like 1/2 of 1/2 an inch!
cfr1970 04-23-2020, 01:46 AM  Wow, I had no idea you were such a "hair stylin' " '80s dude!
My hair was always so full of product people would come up to me to touch it because it was so frozen and hard from so much product lol.
And when it was short, it was gelled up in little spikes and frozen solid with Studio Mega hair spray. That stuff smelled SO good in the late 80's, but sometime in the 90's they changed the formula to where it smelled like wet skunk and I stopped using it.
But that hair could've poked an eye out. Spiky hair needs to make a comeback. See below---

I prefer my hair like that on the sides too. The shorter and closer to the skin the better. When you live in a sauna like Florida, hair just makes you feel hotter!

Well not if it's dangerous!
Also: aHA!! Here you are always goin' on about "spiky-haired" Beverly Ann, when YOU had spiky hair yourself!

And it won't hold me back running that 880!
Ya know, it's funny...if you stop and think about you assume OF COURSE Sue Ann will put her hair up to run, but I always think of that blond hair cascading down and whipping in the wind on the track!
And Nancy's might be just as long or longer, so you kinda just Nancied Nancy!

'80sSitcoms 04-23-2020, 05:55 PM You're right in those pics, BUT, I think Nancy's gets the longest later in season 1 and in the cafeteria years. I think, but I haven't compared.
You just wanted an excuse to post pics of that Sue Ann! ;)
