The writers really did a complete reversal of how Roy's mother was portrayed. In a Christmas episode I haven't seen in awhile, I don't think anyone plays her but it is implied she is a forgetful, senile woman in a nursing home who wouldn't know the difference of what Roy brought and he was taking advantage of her. For those who have seen Raising Hope, Cloris Leachman's senile grandma character sounds like how the Christmas episode described Roy's mother if someone had played her on screen. Compare that to the marathon episode that just aired. Roy's mother is now a domineering woman he is scared of who Rose Marie portrays well.
OH Nuts!

Rose Marie was priceless as Bluto and you look at the character and now why Roy is the pathetic mess he is. Wished R.M. had been on more and would have liked to see a story line involve her singing. Rose Marie is a GREAT singer—she’s been at it since age 3-4 I think.
Just one more reason to love the show.
