I was wondering about this today...did the girls ever have to pay rent to Mrs. Garrett? I mean, were they just living there for free all of those years, especially when they were practically grown women? Hmm...maybe I have a little too much time on my hands. ;)

Ha. I was thinking the same thing this morning! But I'm not sure about it. I mean Mrs. G was a pretty nice person to let the girls live at Eastland above the kitchen with her AND at Edna's Edibles when Jo and Blair graduated and when Nat and Tootie wanted to move out. Can't say that you can find a person like Mrs. G. out there anymore.

Well Mrs. G didn't own Eastland so it was basically the equivalent to the girls living in a dorm room. She didn't own the room the girls lived in. As for the Edna's Edibles situation I'm not sure about that. Then once they opened Over Our Heads with Mrs. Garrett I imagine they all helped pay the bills and etc with their store profits since they all were store owners.

I think every FOL fan has thought of this before.


I think once they got older, they payed with the stores profit.

no... you all are better than this!! come one! Brave New World Parts 1 and 2!!!!! Mrs. G said that she needed help witht he store... and that was kinda like their rent to her.... after a while i know she started to pay them for working there... but that wasn't till later....

You beat me to it, Sarah;)

When Mrs. G opened Edna's Edibles the girls wanted to live with her, but first they had to get their parents permission. Once doing so, Mrs. G allowed them to live above the store if they worked in the shop and shared the chores. There working was their paying for rent, but they also got a check. I guess Mrs. G. just took it out of that.
As for Over Our Heads I would assume they all shared the expenses since they all owned a bit of the store.
