View Full Version : Sue Ann's parents?

I was watching "Like Mother, Like Daughter" last night and saw Sue Ann hanging around with a middle age couple at a table near the piano. I wonder could these have been Sue Ann's parents? They had no speaking parts and Sue Ann was talking to them in the background.

Retro started a thread on all those non-identified potential parents at Parents Night a couple of years ago. I'll go bump it. It's so great that "pause" was invented so we can study these things.

And did you notice how the audience capacity was so minimal? This was the episode that was rushed through production, so we assume they didn't have time to wrangle a full size audience. It's so jarring to me every time I watch it.

Was that the episode they had to reshoot?

Retro may have more info on that?

And actually, looking at the production guide, episodes 2, 3, and 4 were all taped and aired within 3 days (!). Yet they managed to fill the audience for 3 and 4. I wonder what it was about 2 where they barely had any audience there, unless it was a re-shoot?

It's never been stated publicly, to the best of my knowledge, but I do believe it was LMLD, based on '80sSitcoms' original observation about how quiet the audience is. Something wasn't quite right, there, in the production. I can't think of a better candidate for a re-shoot.

As far as I know, only one documentary, Cast Confessions, mentions the re-shoot.

:yeahthat

If any episode needed additional sweetened laughter, it's this one! (why on earth didn't they think of that, we'll never know---ANYTHING to not feel like the jokes are falling flat)

Oo, I forgot they mentioned actually re-shooting, interesting...

80s Dude, I thought you meant in the finale scene, and I just saw that episode. I was like, "I don't see where he's talking about??" but now that I see this thread again, I see you did not say it's at the end, but just somewhere in the episode (I missed it---probably while I was posting here, lol).

It was in the middle of the episode where you saw Sue Ann in the background talking to a middle age couple who had a table right by the piano next to the stairs.

Are these the people you're speaking of? They're uncredited. Are they Sue Ann's parents or relatives?

Possible. The red-haired lady looks older than 41, but it could be the lighting. The man does look 40-ish.

But Sue Ann's mom wasn't established as "only 41" until "Dope" which was filmed the next year.

Also, do we really think Sue Ann's parents went to Parents' Night? All the way from Kansas City, Kansas, when they didn't have much $? (although it also wasn't established until "Dope" that she was at Eastland on scholarship).

Sue Ann is so friendly and welcoming, I just like to think she's making whoever those people are feel welcome.

Yeah, if Sue Ann's mom was 41 in "Dope", then she was either 40 or 41 in "Like Mother Like Daughter".

I don't know if Sue Ann's parents could make it all the way out from Kansas City, Kansas, but I'd hope they could make the yearly trek.

I can definitely see Sue Ann welcoming those people and making them feel comfortable, but then the question becomes: if they aren't Sue Ann's parents, then whose parents are they?

Yeah, if Sue Ann's mom was 41 in "Dope", then she was either 40 or 41 in "Like Mother Like Daughter".

But I said she wasn't established as 41 until "Dope", filmed in 1980. So IF these are Sue Ann's folks, they retconned her age for "Dope".

Exactly. And IF that woman is a mom---she does look rather old!

Hey, life in Kansas City, Kansas, was hard back then!

People looked older back then, anyway. Charlotte Rae was 53 when FOL started, and looked ten years older than that (by the end, she had reverse aged, and looked like she was in her early 50s, IMO).

Yep I was just saying people used to age alot more in he 80's or so. Now there's botox and face lifts keeping Hollywood look youthful.

I was just saying the other day that some of those facelifts and botox make the women look very old. Courteney Cox went crazy with the overhaul, and started to look more like Michael Jackson than herself. Luckily, she's vowed to stop remodeling her face. I'm very glad for her.

Charlotte went another route: she lost a sensible amount of weight, found a hair color that was more flattering, and started eating more healthy foods. The transformation was miraculous, IMO.

Charlotte Rae in 1979-ish and 1988, at the Emmys:

Oh definitely, Courteney was looking very bad for a few years with too much fillers.

Well I don't think she looked 63, but I would've maybe guessed at least late 50s.

Mr. Drummond has his "50th" birthday in season 3 of DS---what a crock! (ha)---Conrad was on his way to *58* when they taped that!

And because people did look older back then (remember when 40 was the old 50? ;) ), I would have said he was over *60!*

Yeah, I'm so glad she gave those up. It looked horrible. She looks so much more natural now.

CHARLOTTE RAE didn't look 63????? I'd say she looked just her age: 53 years old (considering it was the 1970 s - 1980 s).
The difference is, nowadays people in their 50 s look and dress as if they were in their 30 s or 40 s (50 is the new 40 remember?).

A good example for it, is LISA WHELCHEL: she's almost 57 and looks GREAT!!!

I remember my grandparents: when i was a child they were in their 60 s but in my mind they looked ANCIENT!!!

My parents are now in their late 60 s and there is NO WAY they look ancient to me lol!!!

So you see, the fashion has changed so much and the way people lead their lives.....:wave::wave:

I absolutely agree with you, Valentina, that Lisa looks amazing. She easily looks ten years younger than she is. There are even a few fairly recent photos where she almost looks unchanged from how she looked in her late 20s or early 30s. It's a little scary!

I did not know that Lisa is engaged to a doctor. I found her facebook page where she has many photos of her fiance. He is a doctor of psychology in Nashville.
