"God Friended Me" Cancelled after Two Seasons at CBS, Sets Series Finale
by Nellie Andreeva
April 14, 2020
CBS has opted to end drama "God Friended Me" after two seasons.
I hear the decision was made early enough so the series’ creative team had time to craft the Season 2 finale as a series finale and give the show a proper ending. It will end with a two-hour series finale on April 26, 8:00-10 PM.
“We’re extremely proud of the unique concept and uplifting stories God Friended Me has told over the past two seasons,” CBS and WBTV said in a joint statement.
“We thank the brilliant cast, writers, production team and crew for a show that stirred thoughtful conversation about faith, life and happiness, and made viewers feel good at the end of each episode. The creative team behind the show has one last “friend suggestion” in mind, as well as an ending we hope brings a satisfying conclusion to Miles’ journey in search of the God Account.”

My mom liked that show, but I've never seen it. I want to watch it from the beginning. Too bad they canceled it.
God Friended Me star Violett Beane expresses sadness over cancelation. (https://tvline.com/2020/04/15/god-friended-me-season-3-cancelled-violett-beane-cbs/)
Disclaimer: SADNESS :( Unfortunately this is the end of the road for the god squad. We found out yesterday that our show will not be continuing for a third season. I’ve been so humbled by all of the messages I’ve received from all of you throughout these last two years, about how much these stories have impacted your lives and helped you through some tough times. That’s all any of us could’ve hoped for and I’m glad we were able to give you that for the two years that we did. Thank you @wynbrandt1 @stevenlilien @msiega @gberlanti @sarahsowitty for believing in these stories and for believing in me, I’m so happy I got to be a part of this world for the last two years. @brandonmichealhall @canttakeadamnpicture @javicia and Joe. I mean the times we’ve had! I love you all so much, I’m proud of the work you all have done, and cannot wait to see what you conquer next ♥️
God Friended Me creators had to "get crafty" in cobbling together a series finale after coronavirus shutdown (https://deadline.com/2020/04/god-friended-me-finale-1202917648/)
"I feel relieved that we have an ending that we feel is satisfactory," says co-creator Bryan Wynbrandt of Sunday's series finale. "We were in New York directing this episode and had to pull the plug and we had no real idea if we were going to get to finish. Then a couple of weeks ago, conversations with Warner Bros and CBS started to lean towards us not getting a renewal so Steven and I crafted a plan to finish the finale. We’d only filmed five days so we had to get crafty and pull footage from previous episodes. The fact that we were able to pull it off was a pretty monumental thing and we’re pretty proud of it." Fellow co-creator Steven Lilien adds "When we were in New York we didn’t know at the time that the show was going to be over, all we knew what was going on in the world with the virus so once it became clear that we were going to have to shut down, we still had a few days left to shoot. It wasn’t until we were looking at the footage and knew we weren’t going to go back anytime soon, that we started to hear that the show might not come back. That’s when we started to look and ask ‘how much material do we have’ so that we could end it satisfactorily on an emotional level. Thankfully, the stuff at the end with the mountaintop, we filmed that for the pilot but we never used. We were toying with it being a flash forward."
