Yesterday morning I caught a couple of episodes of "The Adventures of Superman" (George Reeves). I hadn't seen the show in years and I know that like most shows in the 50's, the acting and the storylines have a lot to be desired, but I had to laugh when I watched "The Bully of Dry Gulch". (Spoilers coming)
I was only half watching it, but from what I saw, Jimmy and Lois were stranded in a town called Dry Gulch and were going to stay at the local hotel. Some mean cowboys came and threatened them and Jimmy tried to stand up to them but they threatened to kill him and then put him in jail.
I found it hilarious when Lois called Clark Kent at the office and told him about Jimmy being thrown in jail by the bullies and then Clark blew it off telling her to stop being ridiculous. But then when she said that they had been coming onto her (she used different words, but that was the jest of it), he literally sprang out of his chair and said "I'll be right there!" Typical man, right?:lol:
So then he... I mean Superman flies into town to save the day and crashes into the jail to get Jimmy out. Jimmy freaks and asks him how he knew. He tells her that Clark Kent told him . Then he tells Jimmy he can leave the jail and Jimmy is tugging on the bars trying to figure out how to get out. Duh, why didn't he just go out the big hole in the cement wall that Supermen had busted through?!!
I just thought it was hilarious, the way they made Jimmy out to be so stupid. I'm guessing he's like that in every episode. My best friend and I were laughing hysterically about it on the phone later on yesterday afternoon. About how Superman can handle bullets, but then when someone threw a gun at him, he ducked!
I don't watch H&I often except for the blocks of NYPD Blue, but I may start watching "Superman" more. Great entertainment!
