I guess it was time for Andy to get a main story episode. I still don't get why this 13 year old kid is hanging around these late teens/early 20 something women. Doesn't he have any friends his own age to hang with?!
When I was 13, I was riding my bike everywhere, at the video arcades playing Pac Man, playing in the school yard with friends after school. Not hanging in some junk shop with a bunch of late teen aged girls. I like Andy, but his character makes no sense here. Go be a kid somewhere!
I liked the sweet ending between him and Tootie and Natalie's totally 80's hairstyle was fun.
I wish girls wore their hair like that again instead of the popular greasy straight look we see on them all today. puke::barf:
One thing I HATED as a bird owner was seeing that poor bird trapped in that too small cage with no food or water! I realize it was just stuck in there for filming, but it was distracting every time it was on screen. I just wanted to jump in the TV and set the poor thing free. 🐦
"3,2,1".....ZERO!! (Which is my rating for this episode!) :thumbsdow:thumbsdow
So this is the one where Jo & Blair are handcuffed. I was really looking forward to it, but the way it played out fell flatter than Jo's pizza. I thought they accidentally got cuffed together, but Jo doing it just to make her read a damn editorial was silly and dumb.
I just didn't get the whole thing. Why handcuff her?! How is that going to make her read it?! It made no sense.:confused:
And the whole filming part in the shop was bad...just very bad, bad, bad. Poor Mrs. G having to act this way. Just set Charlotte Rae free already than have her acting like a buffoon!
George & Andy were annoying. That head tic...someone really should've put a neck brace on Clooney to stop it. Andy I usually don't mind, but when he's with George he's an idiot. :smash:
Not much else to say except that I didn't care for this one at all. Blair & Jo being handcuffed should've been WAY better than this. Just THINKING of them stuck together brings so many comedic images in my mind....yet they do it in the most boring and unfunny way possible. Such a missed opportunity that was.
Side note....so there's a little room on the left side of the stage now where the corner Mrs. G is shoved into with her cookies? Is this a second storeroom? And when they were filming, they're looking in what was the storeroom just a couple episodes ago and suddenly it's back to being the kitchen again?!
The 🦈 🦈 🦈 are clearly circling the waters now and getting ready to be jumped!:lol::lol:
Natalie's totally 80's hair....LOVE IT!! :heart::heart:

No, and he will get NO friends until Season 9.
Natalie's totally 80's hairstyle was fun.
She was really rockin' the "early Madonna' look!

Let's hope as soon as taping was over, they put him in his real cage.

Yeah. I'm afraid you also may not like some other episodes this season, for similar reasons.

Yeah, it makes no sense. By this point, rooms appear and disappear without reason or explanation, just as characters will. Wait until you get to season 9 and the final remodel! If you're like me, your head will explode when you see what they did. OMG!
The 🦈 🦈 🦈 are clearly circling the waters now and getting ready to be jumped!:lol::lol:

Ah, yes, the '80s "side ponytail"!
She was really rockin' the "early Madonna' look!
Madonna, Schmadonna! She was rockin' the then-current Janice hair! :D

I can't wait to see what they did to the Over our Heads space. For the life of me I have absolutely zero recollection of them doing yet another renovation! I think someone here said they turned it into a bedroom?! I'm so curious to see it now. :lookaroun:lookaroun:lookaroun
If anyone has a picture to upload it to see what the heck it looks like, please do! There's 38 episodes to go before season 9 starts on Antenna TV, so that puts it at around May 11th and that's TOO long to wait! :sleep2::sleep2::sleep2:
What actually became the purpose of the space?!
'80sSitcoms 04-13-2020, 07:57 PM cfr, I'm afraid you must move on. Once the store closes, they don't show it "turned into a bedroom"; it's only mentioned, not seen.
It was turned into a living space for Andy and Pippa ("separately yet together yet separate" we assume, lol).
cfr1970 04-13-2020, 08:02 PM
Now i'm like Lorimar and don't see the emojis but a bunch of question marks where my sharks were. lol what happened?
Madonna, Schmadonna! She was rockin' the then-current Janice hair! :D
I was thinking she's got that Madonna "Borderline" hair. Who the hell is Janice?! Whoever she is, I don't think she's popular enough to only have one name.
RetroGuy2000 04-13-2020, 08:04 PM But they do show the kitchen. OMG!
Lorimar Television 04-13-2020, 08:04 PM OOH also only appears one time in the final season

Andy & Pippa lived in there?! WTH?!....And we never even get to see it? I guess it's safe to assume they were love interests if they're sharing a bedroom. Or just having sex.:lol::lol:
See? Beverly was a bad influence because Mrs. Garrett would never have allowed that under her roof! :nonono::nonono::nonono:

Yes: NATALIE turns prettier and prettier in the later seasons as well as TOOTIE!
On the other hand, i found BLAIR and JO more attractive in the early seasons...
Hi cfr1970 and i'm glad you're finding season 7 as weak as i did!
By season 8 things definitely improve although MRS G is almost gone...
So long, and i really cannot wait until you begin with the next season!

I watched the Muppet Show on TV and even saw the film Muppets Take Manhattan and I never heard of this Janice muppet. Even that pic doesn't ring a bell. Judging from the side ponytail, i'm guessing she came in later on like mid to late 80s or something? By then I was too old for Muppets.
My Dad would mistakenly call them the "Mumpets" and i'd always have to correct him.
cfr1970 04-14-2020, 12:22 AM I just Googled Janice and she apparently debuted in 1975 but I still have no memory of her. In this pic she looks more like Phoebe from Friends about to sing "Smelly Cat".

Animal!
The bandleader is Dr. Teeth (usually on keyboards/piano, but tambourine here).
Zoot is the sax player.
Lips is the trumpet player (but I don't consider him "classic" since he is NOT a charter member of the band :nonono:).
And Floyd is the bass player. He and Janice are an item!
Anyway, you may not "know" them, but hope you enjoyed the performance!

ANIMAL!! YES YES!! OMG now it's all coming back to me...That crazy Muppet was my little brother's favorite when we were kids. I think he even went as him one Halloween. I couldn't place the name and when I just saw the name Animal the memories flooded back lol. Oh wow....Yeah I enjoyed the video. :)

Oh WOW in tonight's episode of "The Facts of The Facts of Life Message Board" we learn a new "personal touch" about cfr! We first learned in an earlier episode you had a brother, but now we learn he is a younger brother---you're a big bro! Cool! Just like Kim Fields on Hallmark Channel's "Home & Family" 2-hour FOL reunion for Charlotte's 90th birthday---at one point the male co-host stops mid-sentene and says, "Kim, I'm looking at you, and you have this expression on your face as you're looking at Charlotte. Can you tell us what's going through your mind right now?" And she says "It's just 9 years of memories flooding over me." Awwww! :bighug:

Yay! I say never trust someone who can't enjoy Jim Henson's work! :lookaroun

He certainly is one of the most popular! And it's funny, he wasn't "showcased" on the show nearly as much as you might think he was---but he is VERY memorable! lol
Oh, and Floyd' full name is Sgt. Floyd Pepper! He usually looks much more "hippie" than his polished-up appearance here! [Zoot too] Interestingly though, they didn't "dress up" Janice; they left her in her "flower child" wear.
You may be interested to know that Frank Oz, who performed Animal, also performed Miss Piggy and Fozzie Bear.
Richard Hunt, who performed Janice, also performed Scooter, and Beaker the hapless lab assistant (meep! meep!).
Jerry Nelson, who performed Floyd, also performed Kermit's little frog-nephew Robin.
Dave Goelz, who performed Zoot, also performed Gonzo, and Beaker's "boss", Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.
Jim Henson, who performed Dr. Teeth, also performed Kermit the Frog.
These guys also performed other characters as well, but since you're not "polished up on the show", I won't bore you by listing them all!

Ok I was thinking of Fozzie Bear before I got up to where you mentioned him. I was wondering if I was mixing Sesame Street with the Muppets and trying to recall which one he was. Now I know Fozzie was a Muppet memory!

I just watched a bunch of short interview clips of Charlotte Rae on you tube from Television Academy, and I just love her even more after viewing them! She looks pretty old them so i'm guessing it was fairly recent. It looks like the same interview broken up into different clips based on the interview subject. Anyway, it's a joy to watch and hear her stories in them. :)
cfr1970 04-14-2020, 02:39 AM OMG in the you tube sidebar while watching the Charlotte Rae interviews, I saw this video. Charlotte did a stand up act in 1954 when she was just 28 years old. I had no idea she did that! I can't believe how young she is---just 3 years older than Blair when FOL ended!

Oh! Yes, but no no no, don't watch those at YouTube! :nonono: Go to the source itself! The Television Academy! The Hollywood interviews are SO much better there because they're uploaded in their entirety! No snippets and snippets and snippets, just entire 1-, 2-, and 3-hour interviews! :loveya:
And yes, she was over 90 when did those, as that happened after 90th birthday.
There are also ones for FOL director Asaad Kelada, latchkey mother GIANTESS Jean Smart, FOL store clerk and Eastland teacher Hazel Shermet, GG stars Bea, Betty, Rue, "Carol Burnett Show" stars, "Sesame Street" folk, TONS of actors, and TONS of behind-the-scenes folks---they are SO good. I've downloaded the "Sesame" onto DVD for keeps. (Caroll Spinney, performer of Big Bird and Oscar, has a 3-hour interview!)
One of my favorite interviews is Judith Light---she really is a---delight!
Here they are! The Television Academy interviews!! (https://interviews.televisionacademy.com/) props:

Just copy the text in the video link AFTER the equal sign, click "Advanced" here, paste it in your message here on a line of its own, highlight it, then click the YouTube button (the red rounded square with the tiny little white triangle in the middle)---this will put YouTube "code tags" around your link. You meant to say that in 1954 CHARLOTTE RAE was only 3 years older than LISA WHELCHEL was in 1988 (on FOL BLAIR was a couple of years younger: 23-24):wave::wave:
Impressions 04-15-2020, 04:25 PM You guys go off topic a lot here :nonono: :p
Anyway, I rewatched both of these episodes last night on my DVD and I agree with every point you made.
My thoughts on Born Too Late:
It made absolutely no sense to me that an animated character like Andy would be completely monotone the first time he gave lines for Riff. Then he's like "What? Too much inflection?" Yes, I know they were trying to satirize his character and make a joke out of his character, but for me, it just didn't work. It felt forced.
Also, the episode was SO predictable. Even if I had not seen the episode, I would know what the episode was about from the episode title alone and there's no way that a character like Andy would EVER land the role of Riff, no matter how well he acted. It was just the complete opposite of his character. But that's just like my opinion. I knew it was done for laughs but still.
3, 2, 1:
Was Jo out of her mind when she handcuffs on Blair? What made her think this would work? Was she really THAT stupid? Also, since when did Jo become a journalist for the people fighting for hard news stories? Why is she SO serious about it? Then she basically writes off Natalie, who we know was a very serious journalist in earlier seasons, when Natalie gives her advice... WTF. So what if she's a college dropout? Oprah was a college drop-out and she was working as a journalist at a news station, and nobody batted their eyes. I would have believed this storyline had it been Natalie in college, with Jo's lines in this episode. This episode just seemed so out-of-character for Jo.
The whole episode felt forced for laughs. It was like they were trying to re-create a hair-brained scheme right out of a I Love Lucy episode, but it flat out flopped.
Also, WTH was Andy and George's purposes in this episode? Like almost every episode, they're background characters who really have no reason to be there and move the plot forward...
