Is this the most active board on Sitcom.com? I've gone to the Happy Day's and All in the Family boards. Both shows were far more popular than FOL ever was, yet they still have posts from last year still on the first page?

Yes, this board is the most active, with the most threads, the most messages, and the most active members, although Unsolved Mysteries and One Day at a Time stay quite active, too.

Unsolved Mysteries still has unsolved cases, in fact a couple were solved last year. So I can see why it's still popular.

I am surprised One Day at a Time is still quite active considering no one on the show has had any recent projects. Lisa, Molly, and Kim have had recent projects so it keeps people interested in FOL.

Valerie Bertinelli has two hit shows on The Food Network (and one that didn’t do that great, but we won’t talk about that one).

I would expect "The Golden Girls" to be the most active board here by far, so yes, I've always been surprised this sort of "sleeper show" has the most active board.

Yeah, I totally get the popularity of UM: the mystery of unsolved cases, the theories, the updates, and eventually the resolution of cases, decades after the original mystery. I've popped in a few times, when cases have been solved. I barely remember most of the mysteries, but it's still satisfying to see (for example) some creep busted for a murder he committed decades earlier.

I am surprised One Day at a Time is still quite active considering no one on the show has had any recent projects. Lisa, Molly, and Kim have had recent projects so it keeps people interested in FOL.

As Otis says, Valerie is still active, so there's that. But also the Mackenzie "situation" creates a lot of fodder for discussion, whether it's the drug use or the incest revelations.

It's not just Lisa, Molly, and Kim who are active in the FOL-verse: Mindy, Nancy, Julie Pie, and (until her death) Charlotte have all done recent work. Several have written memoirs. Most (including Geri, Julie Anne, Julie Pie, Felice, and now even John, Mack, and Jenny) still do interviews about FOL. And the show is still airing, after 40+ years, which says a lot.

One day at a time stays pretty popular because of Opus and I, his love for Valerie and my love for Michael Lembeck ! :)

All in the Family

I agree this show is far more popular than The Facts of Life, but it's also very dated. I love Norman Lear shows, but he really dated his classics by the events that were going on in those times. I used Maude as an example with their gay bar episode in another thread. There's a scene where Walter orders orange juice and they get offended. I had no idea why until I looked it up because they didn't give an explanation in the episode. The Facts of Life didn't go that route with their episodes thankfully. The only dated aspect of The Facts of Life is their fashion styles, but their stories are something you can still watch to this day and understand.

I agree Maude is dated, but I wouldn't say AITF. The only thing that I find dated are the clothes that they wear, but we've seen variations of those styles worn on Gloria for example come and go in years since. Archie is always in his white collar shirt and Meathead is always in a button shirt too. So fashions for the most part are pretty much restrained and kept classic imo.

The house they live in is old, but that gives it it's charm for me. As far as the politics of the day. A lot of things they argue and debate about are eerily relevant in today's time. So I wouldn't call AITF dated too much. Especially nowhere near as dated as Maude.

Just all that gaudy interior decorating in the living room set is enough to leave the room screaming. And their bedroom! It looks like a blind person picked out those colors. Whenever i'd watch i'd be too distracted at the hideous set decorating to pay attention to the show.

I'm a HUGE All in the Family fan and watch it nightly on my dvd's. I've left posts in that forum a year ago that has still gotten no replies lol. It's a shame because i'd love to discuss that show but there seems to be no life there. :(

Same with the MTM board. Hardly any activity there either. I love One Day at a Time also, but i've had run ins with some posters from that board over on the politics board and there ain't no way in hell i'm going to discuss one of my favorite shows with them, no matter how busy it is there. They will probably ruin the show for me.

I just looked at the 90 comedies forums for shows like Friends, Full House, Seinfeld. All of those shows were more popular than Facts of Life ever was during it's run and none of forums is as active as this one. I thought since the fans of those shows would be younger than fans of Facts of Life that they would be active, but they are not.

Lisa has her Collector's Call show.

Molly has been in Riverside, a show based on the Archie Comics, for the past few years. She is the mother of Archie.

Kim had her Christmas special this past Chistmas that was a FOL reunion without it being the Facts of Life. Plus just before the virus became big news, she announced this project with Wanda Sikes. https://deadline.com/2020/03/the-upshaws-kim-fields-joins-wanda-sykes-mike-epps-in-netflix-comedy-series-1202873767/

I'm really surprised at The Golden Girls. You would think with it's huge following there'd be tons of people chattering about it.

I'm also surprised at Three's Company being #2. I do love the show, but it's played so much in syndication that i'm personally so sick of seeing it. And after Chrissy is thrown off the show, the following seasons without her aren't worth watching imo.

You almost always see that the Facts of Life board has more people in it than any other board. At least from the 1980's sitcoms.

Yep. Weirdly, I saw 36 viewers on The Honeymooners board earlier tonight, but that was unusual.

I'm stealing that for another thread. (Where'd you find it? How current is it?)

It was current as of last night, when I posted it.

The numbers were copied and pasted from the forums into Excel, with some fields removed, and then sorted by number of posts.

The default font in code is Courier, which is the same style used in all the Facts of Life scripts: a typewriter font!

Unfortunately, in the code snippet I used, you can't change the font; you're stuck with Courier.

Also: I can't believe "Chico and the Man" is in the Top 10.

I know, right? I laughed about that the last time I posted these stats!

Also: Wow, Retro likes stats!

Yeah, I like stats, numbers, and Facts... go figure!

How the hell is CATM top 10

There used to be a select few regular posters that had a fascination with Freddie Prinze.

93 people are now viewing this board. Wow. That Norman Lear episode must have brought back some of the old timers from this board (most of whom are younger than us current regulars).

Or gotten in some "new timers" who never saw or heard the show and are wondering what it is.

Or maybe a combination of both!
