“A New Life” :thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

I really like this one where Blair finds out her Mom is pregnant. First of all, I love Monica, but if that woman is 42, then i’m 22 LOL….Ok, I just Googled her and she was 49 when this was filmed, so not too bad a stretch in the acting world. She just looks a little older to me here. BTW it says she recently passed away just this past January at age 83. Her name was Marj Dusay and I vaguely remember her from her 80's stint on the soap "Santa Barbara" Pamela Capwell. :rip::crying:

I love how Blair offered to raise the baby. Wow, that was the most unselfish thing I think i’ve seen her do the entire series. When she said “Let me have it” I got all choked up. It was just so nice to see her do that without even giving it a thought! THIS is the Blair that we’ve all seen that’s grown so much from the early seasons...not Pod Blair who seems to get out and tie real Blair up somewhere and take over every now and then.

I liked the talk between Monica & Mrs. G at the table and wish it were longer and she had told Edna about the pregnancy. I hate that Mrs. G is slowly being faded out of the picture. But it was nice to see Monica giving her the credit she deserves and thanking Edna for basically raising her Blair.:heart:

So Blair is still corresponding with her beloved pensioner boyfriend Ben. :grrbald:

I think this is the first we see of that gigantic bench where the desk used to be. It’s just so impractical and ugly. The little desk area from before was cute and efficient. Jo sat on it so I guess it’s usable.

Loony Cloony was there to annoy me but thankfully his scenes were short. Another great episode overall!!

“Doo_Wah” was the next episode:

Weird bizarre episode. Singing with one hit 80’s wonder El Debarge. Cringe!! I mean, it was fun in a weird, fallen down the rabbit hole kind of way….not one i’d care to see again though. And again, they act like NYC is a worlds away LOL. Tootie’s excited “We’re going to NEW YORK CITY!” makes it sound like they’re in the Midwest or something. It's just a train ride away and they seem to go there all the time!

Blair’s hair was straightened and looked fine. Please leave it that way!!

And the funniest part was unintentional...Both Tootie & Natalie looked like they raided Blanche & Dorothy’s closet from the Golden Girls in those hideous old lady outfits worn to the recording studio. When they walked off the elevator I busted out laughing. They looked just like Blanche & Dorothy there.

Clooney’s head tic was in overdrive during the scene in Over Our Heads.puke::barf:

Little Andy wanting the girls to sing songs with moaning to him was cute. Had George said it, it would've been creepy and disgusting, but it's somehow cute and harmless when Andy said it.

And poor Mrs. G was sadly relegated to making 10 second appearances before exiting stage left. Boo. I hate seeing her treated this way, but since it was her decision I can’t really complain. It’s just hard to watch her becoming a footnote in the stories. I already miss her and she's not even gone yet. :(

It could be the other way around. They both came out the same year. The Facts of Life is known for expressing the 80's culture so it's probably another thing The Golden Girls stole from the show.

I think you're right. Golden Girls did start that same season, so it makes much more sense that they stole the clothes styles from FOL rather than the other way around. They were both on NBC and could possibly have shared the same wardrobe department too.

It's just so funny seeing Nat & Tootie wearing the same type of clothes that Blanch & Dorothy wore.

And how old would Blair be when this episode (mother becomes pregnant again) happened? 20 years old?

I believe when the show began in '79 Blair was 15 so by '85 her character should've been 21 at this point. In real life though Lisa Whelchel was 22.

Yeah that's what I meant when I said they came out the same year. Season 7 was airing the same time season 1 of The Golden Girls was.

Or you could say it's funny seeing The Golden Girls versions of Blair and Jo wear the same clothes Natalie and Tootie wear ;) :p

Wow! Great words again cfr1970!

Yes, i remember watching this episode on YouTube, and i was very proud of BLAIR for offering to raise her mother's baby... (at least her real self was back temporarily)

And the heart to heart talk between MRS G and MONICA was fantastic and i still remember the exact words:
MONICA: "i want to thank you for everything you've done for Blair."
MRS G: "I was only a friend."
MONICA: "You were more than a friend...."
In other words: meaning that MRS G was more like a mother and raised her!

As for GEORGE: you really crack me up every time you mention him ha ha!

Oh yes: i can totally see NAT + TOOTIE as the 'GOLDEN GIRLS!'

EL DEBARGE: i absolutely still love his music and listen to it on YouTube quite often!

PS: i will DEFINITELY miss MRS G as much as you once she's gone (the heart of the show will be soon history)

You really had it with poor BEN: he's not a pensioner man! (i don't know what he looks like now, but he was so HOT back in 1985 lol!)

I'm really liking season 7 so far. It seems they did one great episode followed by a stinker. That's ok though because the good ones are really good. I loved seeing those two scenes between Blair and Monica and Monica & Mrs. G. Both were really nice moments.

I prefer when the characters are nice to each other over being snarky and catty like in the previous episode.

El Debarge made more than that one hit?! All I know and remember from him is "Rhythm of the Night"---which I bought the 45 record of in 1985. But I don't remember anything else from him. Now I have that song stuck in my head.:guitar:

EL DEBARGE had another great song called 'Who's holding Donna now' (it's a slow song and very catchy!) ;)

And i'm glad you're enjoying season 7 (maybe i should really get the DVD lol) and i'll probably give it a try, but after i finish with my rerun (i'm on season 3 now):p

Omg you're right!

It's probably a coincidence (no "stealing") since GG was in its first season also, and obviously you don't wanna dress 20-somethings like 50-somethings, lol.

In Mrs. Garrett's wedding I've always thought it looked like they took a cue from the GG color palette and styles for the girls' dresses there as well.

I'm convinced both shows shared the same wardrobe department. Those clothes were just TOO similar to be just a coincidence. But as Christopher pointed out, Golden Girls had just began so they were the ones ripping off the styles worn on FOL.

They look better on Golden Girls only because how baggy and shapeless those clothes are. Better for 50 year old bodies rather than teenage girls. Nat & Tootie looked like old ladies heading to bingo in those outfits.

Well, I don't think GG "ripped off" anything from FOL. GG had already had its wardrobe template created before this episode aired. And those are older lady styles.

If you'll notice when watching sitcoms from the same era, you'll see some similarities in sets, props, and wardrobe at times, and not always on the same network! Some of Blanche's huge bedroom banana tree leaves are seen in a scene on another show (I'd have to stop and try to remember which one), And it looks like parts of the dorm in FOL season 1 were first seen in a "Maude" episode where Maude and Vivian go to a reunion, before "Co-ed Fever" ever saw them, lol.

In the mid-1980s, both The Golden Girls and The Facts of Life were taping at Sunset Gower Studios; FOL moved from Metromedia Square seven blocks west to Sunset Gower after the fourth season. So they were definitely accessing the same wardrobe facilities.

I read this somewhere and it's always baffled me because I know for a fact I saw the Golden Girls living room set at the NBC studio tour at Burbank where Carson did his show.
This was July of 1985, 2 months before the show began airing, so maybe they just filmed the pilot of a few early shows, but I specifically remember standing there in front of that set in Burbank while the tour guide told us about this new show starting in the fall with Betty White, Bea Arthur and Rue McClanahan. I remember thinking what a weird name "Rue" was at the time lol.

So they must have moved the filming location at some point to the Sunset Gower Studios. I wish I had snapped pictures because i'm kicking myself now for not having them to upload. How cool would that have been!! UGH!!

I don't doubt what you saw for a second, especially because pilots are notorious for changes. Sets have been assembled, disassembled, reassembled, and then disassembled again, depending on the needs of the production team, the networks, and the studios.

I know the exterior façade for The Golden Girls house was at Disney MGM Studios in Florida, until it was dismantled in 2003. (The Backlot still had the Home Improvement set in Studio 1 when I worked there).

I've thought about this and think it's actually a very good concept. All the girls are now in their 50's and we could see them handle that stage of life with humor just as we saw in Golden Girls.

The only huge hurdle is how contrived it would be getting them all together again and living under the same roof at this stage of life. But I think it would be an awesome idea with so many funny story possibilities.

Lisa and Mindy would probably do it. Whether Kim would do it depends on her project. I am sure Julie Pie and perhaps at least one of the other Lost Girls not named Ringwald would do it. Nancy M. has pretty much self isolated since her family trama late last year.

Yeah, I don't see Nancy McKeon doing any FOL projects in the future. She distanced herself as much as possible from the role of Jo, not appearing in the Reunion and not doing FOL interviews for many years.

I would absolutely watch a series with "the girls" now in their 50s or 60s (depending on how long it took to get off the ground), living together in Peekskill or Miami or wherever. Swapping in Julie Pie or another Lost Girl for Jo would work fine for me.

I really like Nancy M. and feel terrible for what she's been through the past year, but I never understood her apparent contempt for FOL and the whole distancing thing.

The rest of them seem to embrace what FOL did for their careers and popularity with unbridled glee and they should. It's also so nice to see. Nancy M. just gives off the impression that she wants everyone to forget she was ever a part of it and it just makes me sad that she feels that way. :(

In any case, I too would definitely watch if it were Blair, Tootie, Nat and one of the Lost Girls. I think it would be so much fun and I could see one of the retro channels doing it. Maybe Lisa Whelchel can convince ME-TV to give it a shot since she works for them now.

I know: one of the reasons i was deeply disappointed about the REUNION 2001, was the fact that NANCY MCKEON wasn't among the 'Core of 4' (i was expecting her to clash with BLAIR again as the old JO back after so many years). Instead, we get her mini clone of a daughter who was rather annoying lol!

Actually, the only time we see NANCY MCKEON is on the 2011 interview with LISA, MINDY, KIM, GERI and even CLORIS.....;)

I actually never understood, why people who made stardom because of the great character they were, always try to distance themselves?

For instance: VIVIAN LEIGH from 'Gone with the wind' try to detach herself as much as possible from her 'SCARLETT' character, appearing in completely different kind of movies later on, but failing (or at least the movies weren't as big)

In Mrs. Garrett's wedding I've always thought it looked like they took a cue from the GG color palette and styles for the girls' dresses there as well.

The Facts of Life had already established their style before The Golden Girls was even created. They were all about the 80's. I don't see anything they got from The Golden Girls except their spoof episode from season 9, 'Golden Oldies'. The Facts of Life was way better in the older roles than The Golden Girls IMO. I think it's obvious I'm biased though :p

Nancy wanted to be taken as a serious actress when she left The Facts of Life. Jo is a very huge typecast character for any actress. I don't think she has contempt for the show, she just wants to be able to take roles she knows she can do. Look at her TV movies she's done and her work on The Division. She was finally shedding the tomboy, biker chick, lesbian role model image she had received from the series. Why she's a lesbian role model I'll never understand since Jo was straight. That's like saying Danny Tanner should be a role model for gay men since he was feminine at times ohno:

I don't know if this was confirmed or just rumors to startle the Nancy fanatics here back in 2001, but it was mentioned Nancy wanted Jo dead. Her idea for the reunion movie was that the girls and Mrs. Garrett gather together for her funeral. Like I said though, I don't know how much, or any of it, is true.

What i heard was a different story: NANCY MKEON said she felt 'cheated' from the whole FOL series (meaning they were making to much publicity)...

One thing I'm surprise no one has mentioned about 'A New Life' is how Monica got married and divorced so quickly since just months prior Blair and Jo were shipping her with Charlie. Monica didn't seem like the type to marry a guy right away. She seems like someone who would want an extravagant wedding that takes time to prepare. 'Sisters' aired in March and 'A New Life' aired in October. She had to be quite a ways into her pregnancy since the baby comes at Christmas time. The timeline for Monica's story in 'A New Life' always confuses me since there was no mention of Steve in 'Sisters'.

Yes! It sounded like him and I always just assumed it was whenever it came on the radio. All these years I never knew!:lol::lol:

I know exactly what you mean cfr1970!

I had the same thing with the song 'High energy': for some reason, all those years i thought TINA TURNER sang it, but it was somebody else!!!

And the same thing happened with the song 'Somebody is watching me': i just assumed it was MICHAEL JACKSON too!:lol::lol:

Nancy wanted to be taken as a serious actress when she left The Facts of Life. Jo is a very huge typecast character for any actress. I don't think she has contempt for the show, she just wants to be able to take roles she knows she can do. Look at her TV movies she's done and her work on The Division. She was finally shedding the tomboy, biker chick, lesbian role model image she had received from the series. Why she's a lesbian role model I'll never understand since Jo was straight. That's like saying Danny Tanner should be a role model for gay men since he was feminine at times ohno:

I get she wanted to do more serious dramatic roles. I remember a couple of serious TV movies she did right after FOL, and then she found some success with The Division. So she eventually proved herself as a dramatic actress. It's the continued distancing she did after all that I find baffling. But I guess she still has her reasons. I like that we saw her publicly accept the TV Land award in 2011--so maybe she's eased up on it a bit. I'd at least like to think so.

BTW I had to Google who Danny Tanner was. I had no clue who the hell you were talking about!:lol: I never watched Full House...it always seemed too cutesy a show for my taste.

I heard that too back when the news about the film came out. My opinion on that is if she really wants that to happen then go ahead and kill off the character and be done with it. I'd rather that then have a reunion with the character missing in action. And toss in one of the Lost Girls who would gladly take her place.

Monica had gotten married AND divorced since the "Sisters" episode?! I know Blair said to her "but you're divorced" when learning she was pregnant, but I assumed this was a divorce that had already happened before the "Sisters" episode aired. If you hadn't mentioned this, I never would've noticed the continuity error.

I see A New Life aired only 7 months after Sisters....that's some quickie marriage/divorce!

Out of Nancy's TV movies, A Cry For Help is the only one I care for. I've seen her others but none of em were as powerful as that one.

Nancy is participating in interviews so it's possible the rumors of her wanting to distance herself from The Facts of Life could be blown out of proportion. When Sony first released The Facts of Life on DVD back in...whenever it was because I forgot  Nancy participated with Lisa and I think it was Mindy on one of the morning talk shows advertising the release. Nancy has been with the cast in interviews over the last decade or so.

I watched Full House on and off and couldn't become a hard core fan. It's not my cup of tea either.

Monica said the baby was conceived in her lawyers office when they were signing the divorce papers. Now if she was going to have an abortion, it wouldn't have been that long ago that she signed the divorce papers. The timeline for her marriage to Steve and when the divorce happened seems confusing to me since none of it was mentioned in 'Sisters'. She was single and ready to mingle the way Natalie was trying to set her up with Charlie

I know I saw A Cry For Help on TV when it came out, but good lord that was 1989! I couldn't even begin to recall anything about it! I'm sure it was good....I just looked if it was on you tube and unfortunately, all they got are small clips of it. I'd love to see it again.

This is great to hear. I hope someday the 4 of them can do some kind of revival. I know the chances are extremely slim, but i'm gonna keep hoping!! :)

I never watched an episode. All I remember of that show is that it was part of a schmaltzy TGIF Family sitcom lineup in the late 80's/early 90's. I think the block was Full House, that Urkel show and Step by Step with Suzanne Somers. No offense to fans, but none of those shows appealed to me.

I guess writers were counting on viewers forgetting Sisters, especially since they were into a new season and thought enough time had passed. But it's funny, because even in syndication when it aired only a week later, I still didn't catch that! And I usually notice those little things and make a big fuss over them so good catch!

Nancy had a lot of ambition to become a bigger star after FOL ended, so she didn’t want to be pigeonholed as the girl from Facts. She signed her deal with Fox, was supposed to star in the “Working Girl” sitcom, was a finalist for Monica on “Friends”, did the “Can’t Hurry Love” sitcom for CBS, and did “The Division”. I think that since she’s pulled back on her career to focus on her family, she’s less worried about trying to break away from FOL.

She distanced herself as much as possible from the role of Jo, not appearing in the Reunion and not doing FOL interviews for many years.

I'd say that was more true 10 or 20 years ago. She did that one awesome podcast where she was open all about FOL, and when the other three video-called her to support her for DWTS, she didn't say "Push 'end call' please".

No, but notice it's never her who shows up unannounced to a lisa Whelchel interview. It's always the other way around: Julie Pie showing up for a Lisa interview, Kim showing up for a Lisa interview, Molly showing up for a Charlotte interview, etc. Where's the Surprise Nancy McKeon Appearance when Mindy Cohn bakes cookies on the third hour of the Today Show?

The Facts of Life had already established their style before The Golden Girls was even created. They were all about the 80's. I don't see anything they got from The Golden Girls except their spoof episode from season 9, 'Golden Oldies'. The Facts of Life was way better in the older roles than The Golden Girls IMO. I think it's obvious I'm biased though :p

Yes, lol. But I only meant the girls' wedding dresses with those specific styles and those GG pastel hues.

Why she's a lesbian role model I'll never understand since Jo was straight. That's like saying Danny Tanner should be a role model for gay men since he was feminine at times ohno:

But he wasn't overly feminine. They really laid the "butch" on thick with Jo at first. They did tone it down, but there was still that "Jo core". You hear Cher, Joan Rivers, Dolly Parton, etc. called gay icons but they're not gay either.

If your source is Tootie, I'd take it with a big grain of salt. ;)

Mine either.

Monica said the baby was conceived in her lawyers office when they were signing the divorce papers.

Wait a minute.

I cannot see Monica Warner having sex on her lawyers desk, especially with another man who isn't the lawyer! (unless this "Steve" was the divorce lawyer?)

Okay, okay! I admit thought little Stephanie Tanner was such a cute li'l thing!

But I could not stand Bob Saget.

And Candace Cameron's voice got on my nerves (sorry, it just did, lol).
