Another great episode. I really liked this one a lot. :woohoo:

Mrs. G with some of her hair down looked so nice and made her look younger. I loved it! :)

I think I remember Natalie had a string of different jobs through the season and it was like a running joke. I know the Taco place is coming up soon, and I believe there's a few more different jobs she takes.

I like her so much more with each episode because she's doing what she wants no matter what others think. Blair's comment towards her was so catty and mean---"Some people sink to the bottom" and she looks over at Nat. Not right Blair! :nonono::nonono::nonono:

Tooties also made a crack and I don't get it. This is their friend and they should respect what she wants to do without the catty comments. I'm glad Nat stood up for herself and didn't let it get to her.
I feel personal about that because I too chose to work after school and there's nothing wrong with it. Millions of people do it and are very happy. ;)

I loved seeing Jo as a teacher! A few seasons ago I couldn't imagine her character in that position, but she was so good with the kids and if she feels a pull to do that, I think it's so admirable.

But again, her friends are admonishing her for that decision when a big corporate company comes calling. I never seen these girls so judgmental towards each other as in this episode. Meow! Hiss! :kitties:

I was glad in the end when Jo decided to stay and hang with the kid to talk about the war and missed her recruiting appointment. Good! I know from someone here that she goes into social work in the end of the series and I like that she wants to help people regardless of the salary.

Turning her into a cop was just stupid...but many make believe the reunion film never existed so I guess i'll get on board on that too.

Blair has that hideous chrysanthemum hair again puke::barf:

But still a great episode and now one of my new favorites.

And NO George Clooney!!

Like i said before, i hated what the writers did to the BLAIR character in the later seasons, and one of them that comes into my mind (i think it must have been on season 9 cos she was just HORRIBLE!) is her interaction with BEVERLY ANN:
I can't remember what it was about, but BLAIR simply hurt BEVERLY ANN's feelings (regardless whether i like her character or not) and was really 'CATTY' to her!!!!
It was almost as if everything MRS G had taught to BLAIR had vanished from her memory or as if she had been brain washed!
It was simply horrible, and it kind of stopped me from watching the later seasons and i kind of erased it from my mind.....
I was even chocked that none of the other girls tried to stop her, and i was even waiting for JO to slap her and knock some reason and bring her back to her old self, but none of that happened and i was left angry and confused!!!:eek::eek:

OMG that sounds bad! Do you know what episode that is? I can't believe our Blair could hurt Beverly Ann like that---she must have said something terrible to her if you wanted Jo to slap her! :schmack:

I did get shocked when she made that catty remark to Nat about sinking to the bottom. She wasn't even saying it jokingly either. It came out so judgmental. :(

Blair looked so clueless and inept in the last season. She would have made a horrible lawyer (I certainly would never hire her as one) and she was way over her head as Headmistress of Eastland.

Let's ask Christopher about it (he's the pro after all): but i would bet 100 bucks that it was in season 9, since 8 seemed to be a better season according to everyone on this site.:wave::wave:

PS: i'd say it wasn't BLAIR, but rather her clone (the real one was brain washed or captured like in the 'Stepford wifes'):lol::lol:

Are you talking about A Rose By Any Other Age where Blair makes fun of Beverly Ann for wanting to date a guy Blair was interested in? If so, yes it's a season 9 episode. The guy likes older women so Blair didn't have a shot. Blair felt jealous and started saying really mean things to Beverly Ann like people would think she was out with her son if she dated him or how he could be her biographer. She even said don't take him across any state lines. Blair was not herself in season 9. None of the characters were.

Horrific. Gimme a Break was never all that great, but the final season made everything that came before look like a masterpiece. They brought in yet another child with a bowl haircut, plus Rosie O’Donnell, plus Paul Sand (how he ever made it in show business, however briefly, was beyond me).

I enjoyed the first four and a half seasons of GAB. Season six, however, is another story. The random characters they added, the change in premise, the horrible writing... And most importantly, the Cast Purge between seasons. It was the original characters who had made the show. Once most of the original cast was gone, the show was sunk.

It plays on Antenna TV and I just can't watch when they move to NYC. None of it makes sense, especially the grandpa following them there. WTH?!

And the first little kid was annoying enough, but to add his goofy muppet real life kid brother was the final straw....and Rosie O Donnell...enough said!

The show was great right up until the poor Chief died. After that the show was lost and I believe Nell Carter experienced terrible personal issues, drug addiction and was even suicidal during that time. I don't know how much creative input she had, but if she did, it clearly affected the show.

The show was at it's best when it focused on the 3 girls, Nell and the Chief.

If FOL season 9 is anything like the final season of GAB, i'm bracing myself.

Yes, Christopher that's the episode: 'A Rose By Any other Age' thank you!:wave::wave:

The writing is just very lazy that year. You have Jo marrying a guy she hardly knows. Blair acting like a spoiled airhead. Natalie deciding to move in with 4 people she hardly knew but it "felt" right for her journey of experiencing life. She didn't even ask if she could move in. She just told them she is going to be their roommate. How cocky is that? Tootie has her moments but overall, I like how they ended her character. She married Jeff and they're still together in my mind. Don't care what that reunion movie said.

Yes Christopher you're right: i always wondered how JO ends up falling for a guy she's just known for 5 minutes (when she had always been one man woman) and next thing we know she marries him!!!:confused::confused:

As for BLAIR: what a waste of a character (i mean after all these years MRS G had been working on her) to have her become a pod/clone, and if the writers were tired, they could have hired somebody else to do their job lol!:mad::mad:

I know this isn’t the Gimme a Break discussion board, but they seemed to lose faith in those three girls as early as season 3. That’s when they started adding all these random characters as regulars (Joey, Addie, the police officer, etc), and focused less on the girls. The three young actresses were decent, their characters were well-defined, and Nell and the girls had good chemistry. They could have gotten several more seasons centering around that core rather than inorganically expanding the cast.

I think Nell Carter took it really hard with Dolph Sweet (The Chief)'s death. She took care of him in his final days and weeks (he was widowed). The Joey's Train episodes, you can hear lots of sniffs and cracking in the young actresses voices.

On a side note, did anyone see the Gimme a Break episode with our very own Cindy in it?

I never knew she took care of him in the end and i'm glad to know that. Everything did take a turn for the worse after he died. It's probably something that deeply affected her.

Agreed - Angie was really funny.

I like “Teacher Teacher” because it began to establish Jo’s future career path and was about her “giving back” after her experiences at Eastland changed her life. One of the reasons I didn’t like the reunion was that they made her a police officer. While it gave them an opportunity to make an inside joke about “The Division”, that career path wasn’t in character for her.

I’m sure most of you know that the Eastland/next generation spinoff at the end of the series was developed for Nancy McKeon, where Jo would have returned to Eastland as a teacher. But Nancy didn’t want to continue, so they came up with the contrived “Blair buys Eastland” scenario. Would have been much better with Jo (and with better supporting characters and a better showrunner, but I digress).

I actually liked very much the idea of BLAIR becoming the headmistress of Eastland: after all, for her the school was pretty much her home (she said it on the episode from season 4 'Graduation', how her mother would change her school every 6 months until she fell in love with 'Eastland' and decided to stick around), so to me it was pretty clear she'd buy the school where she'd been the happiest.

JO on the other hand hadn't been as long as BLAIR in Eastland to call it home (again on that same episode 'Graduation', BLAIR tells JO how scared she was to leave 'Eastland', cos to her it meant she'd be leaving home).

So i wouldn't say it was a bad idea at all to have BLAIR as the center on the final episodes......

But you have to admit valentina, that Jo being a teacher was much more compatible with her character than Blair becoming headmistress. Jo always wanted to help people while Blair always wanted to...well....help herself.:lol:

And wasn't she studying to become a lawyer? A headmistress of a boarding school is a huge career turn. As much as I love Blair, I think the ending with Jo becoming an Eastland teacher would've been more believable and a better spin off idea. And keep her single too!

On the contrary: because it was so UNEXPECTED from the viewers, having BLAIR as the headmistress seemed perfect for me!

Think about it: JO was too easy as an open book, on the other hand BLAIR might be categorized by most people as 'shallow dumb blond and full of herself', but if you're willing to read between the lines (like i do) you'll see it there is much more than that!

Maybe i'm reading too much into it, but i am quite observant and i don't believe for one minute that BLAIR was REALLY 'shallow dumb blond and full of herself': to me it was all an act to gain attention, since that was the one thing she really craved for! The attention her parents never gave her.

You can even see it on the episode 'Cousin Geri': all BLAIR wanted was to get a bit of recognition, but mostly ATTENTION for the work of art she created.

I guess no one is ever going to see eye to eye with me on that one, but that's okay: i can read between the lines, and to me BLAIR was the one who surprised people or even her friends more when doing a good deed, because she simply did it humblingly and behind their back (like on the episode 'Ain't Miss Beholden', when BLAIR helps JO get a scholarship so she can stay at 'Eastland').

I know i said it once, but to me BLAIR was a far more complex character than JO.....
