Charlotte Figi, the young girl who helped turn the tide towards the legalization of medical marijuana, has died at 13 of Coronavirus.
Figi made national headlines in 2013 when as a 5 year old she had uncontrollable seizures caused by Dravet Syndrome that were only helped by marijuana. CNN Chief Medical Correspondant Sanjay Gupta examined her case and reversed his position on medical marijuana as a result, and many other medical experts and politicians followed suit.
When Figi was born, only a handful of states allowed the prescription of medical marijuana. Just 13 years later, only 3 states maintain a complete ban. A srain of CBD oil was named Charlotte's Web in her honor and her mother founded the non-profit Coalition for Access Now, which works to educate Americans about the value of medical marijuana.
In late March, Figi and 5 other members of her family took ill from Coronavirus and, because of her underlying condition, her prognosis was considered very poor and she succumbed quickly.
She was a beautiful little princess and was dealt a bad hand. She deserved a much better life.
RIP
Charlotte Figi
