View Full Version : The show started declining when Tootie got rid of her mushroom haircut TV Guy 04-04-2020, 01:52 PM I’m not claiming causation, just correlation. Think about it. '80sSitcoms 04-04-2020, 01:57 PM Well by that argument you could say the same thing about Natalie and her extra-long pigtails, or "when the show went to Edna's Edibles" because they both got new hairstyles for season 5 when they left Eastland for Edna's Edibles. And EE's were still some good times. RetroGuy2000 04-04-2020, 02:19 PM Yeah, there definitely was a decline. But I think the causation was actually Mrs. G gradually being put out to pasture. '80sSitcoms 04-04-2020, 02:22 PM I don't think there was yet. Mrs. Garrett was heavily involved with EE and her girls. Wawwie 04-04-2020, 02:22 PM The major causation is when Edna's Edibles burned down and was replaced with the horrendous Over Our Heads cfr1970 04-04-2020, 02:26 PM I totally disagree. As hideous as that haircut was on her, she did some of her best scenes wearing it. The Jermaine Jackson episode if one of my favorite with her. I love how hysterical she gets with Mrs. Garret over seeing him, and in the end when she has her realization moment. One of Kim's best episodes of the series imo. No no no cfr, he said when she got rid of it, not when she got it---put your monocle on and read your screen right! :grr:  :D cfr1970 04-04-2020, 02:31 PM No no no cfr, he said when she got rid of it, not when she got it---put your monocle on and read your screen right! :grr:  :D LOL! OHHHHH! I read it as when she GOT her mushroom cut! I need to up the number on my readers LOL. Well now i'll answer the actual post now. I have to agree then. She did look SO much better when she got rid of it, but I can see it starting to go off the rails a little in the 6th season. But there are some really great episodes still....I'm just dreading the final 3 seasons because people don't seem to like them at all. (valentina i'm looking at you!):wave: '80sSitcoms 04-04-2020, 02:33 PM I totally disagree. (valentina i'm looking at you!):wave: I feel similarly to Valentina... However, there are some good episodes mixed in with the other episodes. 8-01, 8-02, and 8-06 are classics, and I also enjoy 9-23 and 9-24. I can't find anything redeemable in Season 7. Except maybe 7-01. Impressions 04-04-2020, 04:22 PM This is the most ridiculous statement I’ve read in awhile  The show has plenty of great episodes in the later years. The writing was hit or miss in the later years but a haircut being a jump the shark moment seems preposterous to me. '80sSitcoms 04-04-2020, 05:05 PM ^---Well, in his defense, he was claiming the correlation as a coincidence. Lorimar Television 04-04-2020, 07:55 PM I prefer Tootie with pigtails myself, the mushroom cut was my least fav of her hairstyles RetroGuy2000 04-04-2020, 08:20 PM I prefer Tootie with pigtails myself, the mushroom cut was my least fav of her hairstyles The mushroom cut was just a variation of a bowl cut. Once Molly Ringwald was axed, they had to give Tootie that cut. It was a requirement of 1980s television that "the cute kid" kid had to have a "bowl". (valentina i'm looking at you!):wave: So you're looking at me cfr1970! (i hope not under a microscope though):lol::lol: The later seasons do have their moments too: Season 7 has only got one episode i like: 'Out of the fire' (before they built 'Over our heads') but that's it! I tend to mix season 8 and 9 (i watched the later seasons on YouTube 8 years ago) but there is a couple of episodes i like in them, so here it goes: 1. MRS G's departure: she has a moment with each of her girls (while BEVERLY ANN 'accidentally' arrives) during her wedding ceremony. 2. BLAIR gets accepted as a 'law student' and is accused on having an affair with the teacher who is married! (in the end the wife comes after her and JO intervenes). And 3. When BLAIR falls for the social worker (but i think that's nearer the end). 4. But, i also like one of the last episodes, when she becomes the headmistress of 'Eastland' to try to save it from closing down: it shows dignity and loyalty, to what was her school for so many years....:):):) cfr1970 04-04-2020, 11:14 PM So you're looking at me cfr1970! That one always stood out in my memory because it was kind of a serious one and we get to see a different side of Blair. I forgot which season it was but I caught it last year during the Decades marathon, and still found it just as good as I remembered. valentina warner 04-04-2020, 11:48 PM Do you like the one where Blair is stuck in the elevator with her sister and the holocaust survivor?
