I liked both these episodes. BTW I timed "Sisters" and it clocked in at 19 minutes total. It did have a feeling of scenes being cut making the story feel rushed. I now want to see the unedited episode for that because it was a good one.

"The Last Drive In" was a lot of fun. The best was Blair fighting the bully and unwittingly knocking her out.:lol:

Tootie is a huge Bette Davis fan, thinks "Baby Jane" is her best film, wants to be an actress herself...and has never seen the film? I can't believe it. Surely she would've rented it by now!

Boy that drive in sure was crowded for Natalie got almost 400 signatures!

Did they say that was Mrs. G's beetle that was stolen?! Did they ever find it?! Was Mrs. G pissed when she got home?! It left me hanging!!:lol:

"Sisters" was good too and I was hoping the parents would have gotten serious with each other. I don't know why the writers backed off at the last minute. Why not have Blair & Jo become step-sisters? I think it's nice to know they'd be connected forever like that!! :)

As I said earlier, the editing made that episode feel rushed. There's surely a scene that was snipped for the endless Antenna TV Medicare commercials!:mad:

My favorite line was Monica about her mink: "It's not to wear. It's to carry!" She's definitely Blair's mother!! :)

Yeah, that was odd. Why not just say something like she's seen it several times?

It would have been very cool, IMO, too, but by this era, the show wasn't about changing the dynamics. Having Blair and Jo become sisters would have meant that Jo would have suddenly come into a lot of money, her father marrying into money.

Well, that would have changed the premise of the show completely. We could have had entire episodes where Jo is confronted with the fact that her family now has money.

I remember when Cheers was nearing the end of its run. The producers wanted to have Sam and Diane marry, at the end. NBC didn't want that to happen because they felt it would have changed the dynamic of the series, and somehow harmed sales in syndication.

My favorite line was Monica about her mink: "It's not to wear. It's to carry!" She's definitely Blair's mother!! :)

YEP!

So runtimes have gone down in syndication since the USA / N@N days. Both The Last Drive In and Sisters are 24 minutes and 49 seconds on the DVD release.

The police found the beetle. Only damage was to the windshield wipers as they were in the glove compartment.

I love that Blair scene where she finds out she knocked her out she starts acting all tough with a popcorn bucket on her head

My favorite line was Monica about her mink: "It's not to wear. It's to carry!" She's definitely Blair's mother!! :)

My favorite Monica line is at the beginning. She asks Jo what can she do to help and Jo says right now tarts. Monica says, "I'm on my way. How many should I buy?"

I'm glad you like the episodes. They're two of my favorites.

I don't even remember!

"Sisters" was good too

Maybe, but I feel it's a few seasons too late. I think this story would have been much more effective in season 2 or 3, back when Blair and Jo really had more major stumbling blocks with each other and would have HAAAAATED the prospect of being sisters, lol. This late in the series, when they know each other so well and have a solid root of long-standing friendship, it just doesn't feel the same to me.

Yeah, that was odd. Why not just say something like she's seen it several times?

Had she said that instead I wouldn't have felt bad for her missing all those big chunks of the film at the concession stand complaining how she's standing at the concession stand and missing the film.

I don't think it would've changed the dynamics all that much. Jo was 20 by then wasn't she? An adult so the money wouldn't affect her all that much. She was on her own pretty much at that point and not being supported by anyone anymore.
I think she'd have very minimal attachment to the money. Her father would be basking in it, but I think Jo wouldn't have really changed at all from the marriage.

Almost 6 MINUTES of scenes! Holy crap! I wonder what they were now? Did we see them go out to dinner with the parents in "Sisters"? I want those dvd's now more than ever. It will probably look like a whole new show.

The police found the beetle. Only damage was to the windshield wipers as they were in the glove compartment.

That scene was definitely cut! :(

I love that Blair scene where she finds out she knocked her out she starts acting all tough with a popcorn bucket on her head

She was funny in this scene! Originally I was thinking, just get Jo to pop her in the mouth, but having Blair deal with it on her own was much funnier!

My favorite Monica line is at the beginning. She asks Jo what can she do to help and Jo says right now tarts. Monica says, "I'm on my way. How many should I buy?"

It will. I know "Mama's Family" like the back of my hand (even more than this show) and when the MF box set came out 7 years ago, I was stunned by how it felt like a new show. There I was, watching those original NBC episodes, and at times ENTIRE TWO-MINUTE SCENES that had been on the cutting room floor for 30 years were suddenly "sewn" back in. It made it seem more like a production divided into definite "acts" that way. And then still other snippets and half-minutes here and there throughout the rest of those episodes as well, on top of those 2-minute scenes.

I do too; she's so glamorous and likable! :) You don't see her "a lot", but compared to some of the other parents, you do get to see her more than most, considering. I believe we see Charlie the most, and then Monica.

In local news, I GET TO GO OUTSIDE TONIGHT!! :woohoo: I've been holed up for nearly THREE DAYS 'cause it hasn't been quiiiiiiite warm enough to get out yet. It is like a whole new show with the deleted scenes. That's why I don't think old shows should be in syndication anymore. In their original broadcast they were up to 25 minutes or longer. A lot of Maude's episodes run over 26 minutes. How is 19 minutes out of a 26 minute show going to make sense when watching? If syndication can't allow more time to be shown of an episode for viewers to get sense of what they're watching, then they need to air something else. Season 3 of The Facts of Life is over 25 minutes. That is over 6 minutes being cut that season in syndication. And season 3 is a fan favorite.

Oh, man. Your comment really took me back, CFR!

Even my little town had a video store, Fibber McGee's, which opened in the mid-1980s. We were so excited! Now we could rent movies we'd previously only been able to see when they were in theaters or on television. It was a complete game changer.

My family spent money every week on videos. It became a weekend thing, usually with pizza. That is when I first saw The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, and Legend (I first saw The Neverending Story and Return to Oz in the theater), so three of the five most important films in my childhood were due to that little mom and pop video store. Crazy to think about.

And they were better than the big chains because they always stocked obscure films that you couldn't get in the big stores. By the mid 80's they were all over where I lived (Bronx) You could find one on almost every other block and they were mostly family run stores with nice people behind the counters.

Renting videos was an event then! And a VCR cost $250! For the pop up top loaders! Oh what great memories!

Not only were the people great, you could ask them for recommendations, or describe a film and they would know the name of the movie.

In my town, you could also rent video games from them, which was cool because you didn't want to buy a game for $50.00 and then find out it sucked. I loved Super Mario Bros, but was so glad I had only rented Super Mario Bros 2. Then I rented 3, and loved it so much I bought it.

No no, not as a Mario game, but just as its own game---so "Doki Doki Panic" but just happens to have Mario characters in it. You don't enjoy anything about the gameplay at all??

And have you ever played the true Super Mario Bros. 2? The one they didn't release in America 'cause they thought it was too difficult for American kids?

I remember getting Super Mario 2 when it came out, and my roommate commented how it was cool that they weren’t just doing a rehash of the first one and were trying something new. Little did we know.

All these years later, I still have a soft spot for it (though nothing will ever top Super Mario Bros 3, for me). I did play the “real” Super Mario 2 a few years later and thought it was boring. More of the same, only harder.

I'm surprised Retro is so passionately against it.

I did play the “real” Super Mario 2 a few years later and thought it was boring. More of the same, only harder.

I have it since it's included on the "Super Mario All Stars" cartridge. It's fun in that it's like "Oh, wow! The real Super Mario 2 that they wouldn't release in the US! At last!" but yeah, same exact DNA makeup, if you will. Still, it is a little fun because it's more challenging and a bit of differences (like you can pick Luigi to play, and his jump is different, etc.)

Yeah, my friend and I were the same way (I always played Luigi, he always played Mario).

We loved warping through levels: we always skipped World 7, because that Pipe World was really challenging, and went straight to World 8.

HBO in those early days of cable was a huge thing and it came with a giant cable box to set on top of the TV. And after midnight they'd show "adult movies" on them, but parents could scramble the channels with some key to block it that would make the screen be all squiggly with warped pictures and lines.

I remember nights me and my brother would quietly sneak downstairs and turn on the TV to watch with the sound off and tune into the squiggly lines.

Well, Blair probably started out as an only child, then possiby had half-siblings and step-siblings (but I really, REALLY dislike that nun episode).

But where do you assuming??

Tootie has 2 brothers
Natalie MAY have one non-biological sister
Nancy MAY have a brother and possibly more siblings
Molly has a brother IF you consider the DS season 2 episode "The Slumber Party" canon to FOL, but it SEEMS like she's an only child in the FOL episode "Molly's Holiday".

So see?? It's not all black and white with Eastland families!

Turns out we're both right!

"A clutch of eggs is the group of eggs produced by birds, amphibians, or reptiles, often at a single time, particularly those laid in a nest"

But I would never think to call chicken eggs "clutches"!

Then again, I LOVE nature shows (whoa, another '80sSitcoms character detail!), and many of them cover the whole sea turtle egg-laying/hatching/ocean-dashing thing, but none of them talk about "chickens", lol.

Ducks too. I have a flock of wild ducks that live out back and lay clutches of eggs all the time, but they never get to hatch because the crows come and peck and slurp all the yellow gooey protein out before they can become baby duckies. It's kind of terrifying yet fascinating to witness.

I love sisters. I feel like this is one of the episodes Jo and Blair finally realize their friendship is real. Season 6 can be found in full on Crackle and the Roku Channel (they are both free) and they seem to be the 24 minute versions. Roku has Seasons 3,4,5&6 and Crackle has 6&7. Antenna TV is on season 6 but I think they missed an episode or two. It’s a scrounge to find the episodes aside from the DVD box set.

Hey Folfan!

Yeah, "Sisters" is definitely one of the best episodes of the sixth season. The Blair/Jo friendship feels very real.
