View Full Version : "The Facts of Life": The guys in their lives
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 04:44 PM Welcome to the most testosterone-y thread on the board.
(I'd had the idea for this thread for a few months, and now with some more "down time" lately, figured it was a good time to do it)
I thought it'd be neat with such a female-centric show to showcase the guys who have been involved in their lives. :) (and also a bit fitting since so many of the current posters are guys as well)
Here we go, in production episode order (the order the episodes were first taped, not aired).
And we start with a doozy---Mr. Crocker, a.k.a. "The Croc", the then current headmaster of "Eastlake" School for Girls from the backdoor pilot on DS, "The Girls' School". What a croc!
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 04:47 PM SEASON 1
Phillip Drummond, and Willis and Arnold Jackson, Mrs. Garrett's employer/charges she lived with for about a year and a half on DS.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 04:49 PM Stephen Bradley, the girls' headmaster once the series starts with "Eastlake" now "Eastland".
Sometimes ally of Mrs. Garrett, but also often head-butt-er, lol.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 04:51 PM Justin Branch, old flame of Blair's mom (Prototype) Monica, and father of the girls' assumed "dormmate" Nina Branch, from the 2nd episode "Like Mother, Like Daughter".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 04:54 PM Robert Garrett, the man who was one married to Mrs. Garrett, "OUR Mrs. Garrett", lol (and father of their sons Raymond and Alex Garrett). Charming and likable, but darn that overwhelming gambling addiction that gets in the way. From episode 3, "The Return of Mr. Garrett".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 04:56 PM Harrison "Buffalo" Ramsey, Tootie's dad who's an attorney. From episode 5, "Overachieving".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 04:57 PM Jason Haas, the first boyfriend we see on the series (Blair's, of course lol). Jason played Romeo to Blair's Juliet until Blair was forced to drop out of the play for her plaigarism.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:02 PM Dr. Jeff Parker, Molly's father, an orthodontist who divorces Molly's mother.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:04 PM Steve, a local deliveryboy who delivers groceries to Mrs. Garrett (and maybe other stops on campus as well). First seen here in "Dieting", he also becomes Blair's second boyfriend that we see on screen, in "The Facts of Love" (he's also fancied by Natalie and Cindy, and possibly more as Cindy claims they're all in love with him, lol).
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:35 PM SEASON 2
Officer Schuler of Peekskill Police. He's the catalyst for the change in the girls' lives at the start of season 2 in "The New Girl Part 1". If he hadn't have insisted on dragging the girls downtown for their crimes the night of infamous Chugalug Bar incident, they would have still had the freedom to live in the dorm with their friends instead of being forced into supervised isolation and child labor.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:39 PM Howard, the cook at Eastland whom Mrs. Garrett briefly dated before he left Eastland.
NOTE: It's been said that Howard was in the season 2 opening credits for the few episodes he appeared in. If this is indeed true (and I really hope that it is), I would LOVE to see that version of the season 2 theme appear someday on YouTube.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:43 PM Henry Douglas, store security at Harrison's department store. He arrests Mrs. Garrett for shoplifting in (wait for it...) "Shoplifting". They later go out on a date off screen past the time of the episode. :)
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:46 PM Harrison Andrews, Blair's beau who takes Jo instead to the country club cotillion (and tries to take advantage of her there) in "Double Standard".
NOTE: In another instance of this show loving to reuse names again and again, this is the 3rd time the name a "Harrison" appears in the series: Harrison Andrews, Harrison's department store, and Tootie's father, Harrison Ramsey (although Mr. Ramsey's first name Harrison would not be revealed until season 4).
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:53 PM Fred, the lounge vending machine vendor boy who convinces Tootie she's out of touch with herself among the girls at Eastland in "Who Am I?".
NOTE: Tootie reveals in this episode "I have two brothers at home". So we can assume Marshall is a junior or senior this year, before he comes to visit Tootie from college a couple of seasons later where she's so excited about her college brother coming to see her.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:55 PM Carl, Tootie's dance partner in "Who Am I?".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:57 PM Eddie Brennan, Jo's long-time Navy boyfriend who first shows up in "Teenage Marriage".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 05:59 PM Bink Parker, Blair's date in "Teenage Marriage" (no mention if he's related to our Molly Parker or future headmaster Mr. Parker). Bink is a debate expert and Blair engages his help to try and convince Jo and Eddie not to marry.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 06:25 PM Mr. Harris, Eastland's headmaster for the school year 1980-1981. He wears a toup ("No kiddin', a toup")
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 06:32 PM Neil, the boy who spread rumors that gave Natalie a bad reputation in "Bought and Sold".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 06:35 PM Charlie Polniaczek, Jo's father whom we first meet in "The Secret".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 06:38 PM Renowned fashion photographer Jonathan Dutton, who discovers Tootie as his new face for the '80s in "Pretty Babies".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 06:39 PM Alex, Mrs. Garrett's son who visits in "Free Spirit".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-01-2020, 06:47 PM Brian, who was Tootie's uncle for a while when he was married to her aunt Sylvia. From the season 2 finale, the spin-off attempt "Brian and Sylvia".
NOTE: Brian was played by Richard Dean Anderson, who would go on to star on TV's "MacGyver".

valentina warner 04-01-2020, 07:27 PM THIS IS JUST GREAT 8OSITCOMS!
LOVE ALL OUR EARLY SEASONS PHOTOS! FANTASTIC! (what a great job you always do!)
TV Guy 04-01-2020, 07:35 PM Dink Lockwood, whom Blair wanted to buy her dinner basket in “Kids Can Be Cruel”.
Lorimar Television 04-01-2020, 09:18 PM What a great idea for a thread, Eights!

What a great idea for a thread, Eights!
Thanks! Gotta have some representation for us guys around here.
Dink Lockwood, whom Blair wanted to buy her dinner basket in “Kids Can Be Cruel”.
Hang on, I'll get there!
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:07 AM SEASON 3
Now the 3rd Eastland headmaster in 2 1/2 years, Mr. Charles Parker (could he be related to our Molly Parker from season 1? Perhaps, perhaps not...just depends on what you choose to believe!). He debuts in the season opener "Growing Pains".
NOTE: While "Growing Pains" is the season opener with the girls returning from summer vacation, for some reason it was the second episode produced for the season; the first was "From Russia With Love", where Natalie's fan-favorite grandmother Mona visits.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:10 AM Michael Palmer, a.k.a. "Mr. Palmer", Eastland's French teacher who escorts Cousin Geri to a dance on campus.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:13 AM The self-defense instructor from "Fear Strikes Back". He is not credited with a name, simply "Instructor".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:14 AM Roy, The dorky DeForest Bakery delivery boy who has his helpless crush on Jo. He first appears in "Front Page".
-
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:16 AM Mr. Gideon, Eastland's journalism teacher who loses his teaching career thanks to Jo's vengeful inaccurate article.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:22 AM Bob Perkins, Jo's "husband" for a class project where students are coupled up to study marriage. (It seems a little inconvenient to do a project pairing up girls and boys for marriage when this is an all girls' school, but oh well. At least Bates isn't far away for the boys to get together with the girls)
[personally, I much prefer Bob for Jo over Eddie]
-
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:24 AM Paul and Lenny from "Dear Me", though I don't think we know which is which. They're from Bates planning the overnight hiking trip to Cooper's Rock with the girls.
NOTE: It's amazing how PLATINUM BLOND this one guy and Harrison from "Double Standard" are.
-
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:27 AM Bates Academy's Zack, who wants Tootie to go on the Cooper's Rock trip.
NOTE: The actor playing Zack will return in seasons 5 and later to play Tootie's boyfriend/fiancé Jeff.
(I'm digging the forest green Bates uniforms! Even the DeForest Bakery uses almost the same color green for their deliveryboy jackets)
-
'80sSitcoms 04-02-2020, 01:29 AM Mr. Wakamatsu, Miko's father, from "The Americanization of"...wait for it...wait for it..."Miko".

-

I like him too. With Gil being the last photo here, my favorite guys for Natalie are definitely Gil and Brian. I bet they'd be great friends! (well, I mean, if they weren't both vying for Natalie that is )

I think it would have been interesting in the last couple of seasons to have brought back some of the girls old boyfriends. Cliff and Roy appeared in an episode, but maybe Steve or Jason from season 1 could have re-appeared in Blair's life etc...

Steve or Jason, wow, talk a throwback!
I rarely watch the later seasons, so it always surprises me when I see Roy pop up once in season 5, and especially once in season 8 after not having been seen in 3 years!
