Today I saw 3.10 "Steve Gets An A" from the commercial set. I'm happy to say it was a full 25 min. version with all the great original background music. I really love these new commercial sets with original music.

But the strange thing is last week's episode 3.9 "Chip's Last Fight" and it was really a duplicate of the TV Land version, both being 22 min. versions with the exact same scenes cut. Now I know one of the scenes cut must have been a scene where the babysitter arrives at the house to babysit Chip. In the 22 min. cut versions this scene was cut but you can see in the credits a credit for the babysitter. In the cut version Chip complains about having to have a babysitter as Steve calls around for one and then the next scene goes right to Chip talking to Sudsy telling him what happened last night with the babysitter there. So obviously that was the scene cut.

OK, so WHY would this brief little babysitter arriving scene be cut? There couldn't have been a song sung there. Maybe the master film was damaged or the uncut master version was damaged or lost so they had to use the syndicated TV version. Don't know, but I thought it odd that it was cut.:confused:

These 22 minute versions in the DVD sets are really annoying. We're paying big bucks for these sets, and it seems that CBS will just grab the first available version for certain episodes.

There are also several episodes in 22 minute versions in seasons 4, 5, and TV 22 minute versions in 7, 11, and 12. All the episodes in seasons 8 thru 10 are full episodes.

Erb, (as they'd say in Superman comic books) what season 8 thru 10 full version sets? Only the first 5 seasons have been released unless there's a new release I haven't heard of?:confused:

Oops, I should have said, S8-S10 TV versions were syndicated as unedited, network versions. I recorded those off WHMB, which showed them that way.

If you have the New Leave it to Beaver, I'd be glad to trade with you. The S8-S10 are recorded direct to DVD recorder. I do have to work on the S10 DVD that has After You, Alphonse (where Charlie kills Barbara with kindness till she turns off his fight on TV). I don't like the quality of that episode, and I think I have a better one on VHS tape, also unedited.

If we're talking trade, do you have the Love That Bob series? I have about 25 episodes but that's it. Do you have a bigger set?

No, but there's a post on Bob Cummings/Love The Bob by a poster called upperco, who says he has 169 episodes.

Do you have the New Leave it to Beaver (my set is really horrible quality--practically unviewable)? If you do, I might have something else I saw in one of your posts, that you're looking for (if you're not really that hot on the M3S).

I have My 3 Sons DVDs. So I'm not desperate for My 3 Sons though your uncut episodes will give me something to think about.

As for the NewLITB set which I just saw an episode of today, by the way, it came from a trade I made years back when I used to do trading. I may even have the same set you have, I didn't make the NewLITB set, mine came from a trade. The quality of the shows varies from kind of blurry and muffled to extremely muffled and blurry to not too bad but no way perfect to some that will pass with a push. None I've seen are of excellent quality.

In fact, I rarely do any trading any more. I think the most recent trade was one I did about 2 years ago. And before that it was probably 10 years since the last trade. The main reason I don't do hardly any trading now is I have most all the shows I wanted and the sets people have today contain shows I'm not interested in. I hate to tell people I don't want to trade with you because you don't have anything I want. So it's easier to just not get back in the trading world.

Th only things I need or want to do are, upgrade New LITB, and upgrade M3S S11 and 12 somehow.

Your New LITB sounds like the same set as mine, and that everybody else is offering in trade. I didn't get very far in viewing them, and until you mentioned it, I didn't know there were any that look viewable. The set that the guy has on VHS that he put on Youtube by shooting a picture of the TV screen looks quite good--I wish I could get hold of him somehow. And user Haskell on this site says she has a good set, but when I PM'd her, she says she can't find it.

I might put a want post on this site's Trading Post, but I think any trader on there has the same set, too.

The New LITB is not so terrible (though one episode I've seen is really terrible, but only one so far) it's mainly a blurry and muffled collection but it's still viewable and most of the time you can understand the dialog thru the muffle. I got my set years ago but only in the past 6 months did I ever watch it. Now I'm watching one a week.

You're about where I am, I'm not really looking for anything anymore either. Love that Bob and a nice complete set of I Married Joan would be my 2 main interests. Not to mention a nice, at least, almost complete set of Ozzie & Harriets. I was mainly interested in '50's and '60's shows and most people today just have newer shows and consider shows from the '90's to be really old classics. Ugh. Can't stand it. Just not interested in the stuff past 1975. Some good shows since but mainly all crap. Bob Newhart various shows being an exception and one of my favorites has always been Dabney Coleman's Buffalo Bill. But that's as new as I get as far as my interest is concerned.

Did you see my post on the NewLITB discussion message place (I don't know what you call these things)? I told people there about telling that guy who films his TV set and then posts that you can buy a gadget and put the shows from tape onto your computer. Filming your TV set should be a last desperate resort not something you think of as a decent set to put out there. Even if he could buy an old DVD recorder and record them that way would be better than filming your TV screen, maybe he thinks he's making kinescopes.

After watching all the real LITB for the past couple years I started to watch the New LITB for the first time. Best thing about it is seeing some of the old original characters and original actors from the '50's and '60 make appearances. Recently I saw the guy who originally played Eddie's father appear in an episode about how Eddie can't stand the guy and his son invites him over to surprise Eddie after not having seen him in a long time. A kind of dramatic episode compared to the rest of the series. Even saw Mrs. Elkins (from Dennis The Menace) appear in a couple episodes now playing Aunt Martha. The dumbest thing I've seen is this old guy who I've never seen before playing Gus the fireman who's now supposed to be senile but he's still on the job as fireman!!!! Crazy, if Gus were actually still alive at this time he'd be over 100. They should have just had another character maybe Gus's son playing that role. Also really liked seeing the real Julie Foster make a couple appearances and she was still hot. They got a new girl to play Mary Ellen Rogers who's now supposed to be Wally's wife, I really wish they had gotten the original Mary Ellen Rogers, Pam Baird, she was a beautiful girl. The show's no classic but fun for a LITB fan to watch. Eddie and Lumpy are still good too.

Oh, man, I really liked Buffalo Bill. I've had that DVD set for years. I'll have to drag that set out, now that you've reminded me.

Mrs. Elkins was also on the original LITB once, in the incorrectly titled episode, the Visiting Aunts.

I saw your post re the device. I had no idea they existed. I'd really like to convince him to send me his tapes and I'd gladly run the episodes onto DVD. The New LITB is another series where I could kick myself for not taping the episodes.

In fact, just last week I was transferring a W.C. Fields movie I recorded on VHS onto DVD and at the end of the movie my tape cont'd. recording and the next show was the New LITB!!! BUT I only had the opening theme of the show recorded but I couldn't believe how good it looked all nice and sharp and clear to hear. I'm so used to the muffled look of that set I didn't know how good it could be. I also really wish I had taped this show back in the day. I actually am pretty sure I have the Beaver Reunion move and I think a couple episodes taped too in my TV tape collection. I'd have to pull out the old boxes and do a search. Ugh. One day maybe I'll work up the energy. I need a young Ward assistant like Batman had Robin.

I looked at one of the early episodes on Youtube, from Disney when it was titled Still the Beaver. For what would be called a kinescope back in the day, it looked surprisingly good. So I'm judging that his episodes would look really good if they were transferred to DVD.

Old VHS recording look really good. It amazes me that these DVD episodes look so bad. They had to be recorded off cable--Disney and TBS.

I remember an old Sell This House episode, where this guy had a young assistant, he seemed to be a gofer type guy--I thought, cool! I had a job like that in younger days, for a radio station, go pick up the mail art the P.O., do this, go get that at Radio Shack, etc.

I stopped buying My Three Sons DVD's after season two, seasons 3-5 have too many edited episodes for me to justify making the purchase. Seasons 1 and 2 have the changes to the background music score but at least those episodes are otherwise complete and unedited aside from two minor exceptions. It's questionable if more seasons of My Three Sons will be issued on DVD, season 5 might be the last one since CBS DVD seems to have gone out of business. Another studio would probably have to continue with the DVD's if they're interested.
