View Full Version : FAVOURITE GUEST ON FOL
valentina warner 03-28-2020, 07:50 PM Who's your favourite 'Guest character' on FOL?:)
There has been quite a wide range of them, and for me if i had to pick one, i'll choose:
MEG (BLAIR's sister from the episode 'Best sister'), she was the sweetest thing, and also the fact that she is one of the girls on the sitcom 'THE BRADY BRUNCH' gives her a plus!;)
Now, the least favourite i'll have to say is MIKO: she really irritated me with her 'crush' on JO! (unlike KELLY who at least was funny)
Comments?
Lorimar Television 03-28-2020, 07:53 PM I do love Eve Plumb!

Same. She's one of my favorites too and helped lighten up season 5 when she was on.
For recurring guest star, Marj Dusay as Blair's mother is my favorite. I love her acting. I also feel she had a better connection to the girls than the first actress that played her mother in season 1.

I'm surprise it's not Mark Tymchyshyn aka Ben. I would have guessed he was your favorite guest star since you like him for Blair.
Side note - I just found out Ben was in Grace Under Fire and Reba. These are two shows I watch and can't believe I didn't notice before.

Yep, BEN as well, but i was thinking more of a female character, rather than a boyfriend...:p
umfan87 03-28-2020, 09:23 PM i loved marj dusay such a talented actress i loved jami gertz too she's actually really funny and underrated i also loved even though his character was a sleaze the actor who played harrison andrews in double standard season 2 he was very cute and a decent actor in my opinion.

Of course: how could i forget BOOTSIE?! (shame on me):D:D:D
'80sSitcoms 03-29-2020, 03:22 AM Hmm, by "guest character" I thought that meant a one-time appearance, not a recurring character.
And yes, most fans find The Real Monica more preferable to Prototype Monica, me included. :) She was perfectly cast.
I also love Zsa Zsa's appearance.
And Jami was fantastic as Bootsie!

If it's just a one time guest stint, then William Windom gets my vote. I love his scene with Mrs. Garrett as they're throwing banter at each other over whose shop it best at the end of Store Games.

It's not just The Facts of Life she does a great acting job on. She was also perfect on All My Children. She started out sane and went crazy in the end of her run on the show. I never watched Another World like you and cfr, but I did watch and enjoy All My Children back in the day for...well over a decade

I feel sorry for him because he has to be the "villain" there, lol. He did an episode of "Mama's Family" where he was a sweet guy. :)

I have heard about her on ther. I never watched AMC, but I wish I had been around to see it regularly when Dorothy Lyman was on there as Opal. I've gotten to see some of her Opal stuff on YouTube, and she was so funny and unique. (also very cool that she won Daytime Emmys 2 years in a row for what was largely a comic performance, something extremely rare).
valentina warner 03-29-2020, 02:44 PM I don't wanna be a 'SPOILER', but i just read online that the main character from ALL MY CHILDREN died???? (i never even watched this sitcom lol)

You scared me...I thought Susan Lucci died! Whew....I went and Googled "Susan Lucci dead" and saw it was John Callahan that died and not her. Still very sad. He was on Santa Barbara back in the day (a soap that aired after Another World) and I liked him in that.
He had a "massive stroke" at age 66. :rip: :(

I'm sure the MSM will do some journalistic acrobatics to try and link it to that.

Did you know Dorothy Lyman plays Reba's mother on Reba? While Jenny O'Hara plays her exes mom. Which means Miss Mahoney and Naomi Harper were in laws!

Oh, Lorsie! You totally just made me "lol"!
I did know Dorothy played Reba's mom (though she's only a handful of years older than Reba!), but I had no idea Jenny played Brock's mom! Wow!

HAHA crazy right? Of course Miss Mahoney is now her EX mother-in-law and when she visits, her usual nasty, critical, attitude toward Reba turned into loving and polite.
RetroGuy2000 03-30-2020, 12:25 AM My favorite guest (one-off) on the show is probably the girl who played Allison.
My least favorite are El Debarge and Jermaine Jackson, which were just stunt casting. Who would go crazy over Jermaine? Might as well make it Tito!
'80sSitcoms 03-30-2020, 02:13 AM My favorite guest (one-off) on the show is probably the girl who played Allison.
The sympathetic Heather Kerr, who would go on to play teenage Eunice in a syndicated flashback episode of "Mama's Family"---and very well!

It was interesting to learn Michael just said "no" (Nancy Reagan must have very proud of him! ;) ). That's too bad though. I mean I get that he saw himself as way too big for the show, IF that's what his reasoning was.
And a few years later, ironically, that could have been Eastland's own Molly's reasoning too!
(along with, ya know, the whole bitter humiliation resentment thing, lol)

I'll have to check that MF episode out.

Yeah, I'm sure neither Michael Jackson nor Molly Ringwald were going to do a FOL episode, at the height of their fame. Ironically, a few years earlier, Molly would have given anything to have been back on the show.

Thankfully, I'm not that old to have been able to see Dorothy as Opal ;) I grew up with Jill Larson as Opal. I also saw clips of Dorothy as Opal too. I don't know if it was the scene that needed Opal to be represented this way but Dorothy's Opal seemed tough. Jill's Opal was flighty a lot of times. Jill definitely didn't copy what Dorothy brought to the character and I like that better when performers do that. If someone is just going to be an exact replica of the person they're replacing, it's pointless having them there.

If Susan Lucci died, that would be EVERYWHERE. She made a name for herself not just as a soap actress, but the only actress who had to be nominated 19 times before winning an Emmy  Nothing against Susan, but she was very overrated as Erica. There were tons of performers on that show that acted better than her. If Emmy's hold weight in telling how well a performer is, then it showed those 19 years of her costars getting awards and not her :D

I watched AMC for about a year way back when they did that baby story with Bianca and I forget the other character. What happened was, I think Bianca thought her baby died but some other woman stole it and started raising it as hers, but it was really her baby that died and for a year poor Bianca grieved her dead baby who was right in front of her the entire time. It was a sick sick story, but I had to keep tuning in to find out how it ended.
I remember watching Susan Lucci and wondering what all the fuss was about with her. She was ok, but not the spectacular wonder actress she was made to be everywhere.
I could think of many daytime soap actresses who could act circles around her and who played much more interesting characters. But still, I do like her just for enduring so long in the soap world.
I saw her on QVC recently hawking exercise equipment, and she looks so damn tiny. But she was moving around like a 20 year old lol. So she seems to be in excellent shape for over 70!
Christopher 03-30-2020, 11:54 AM I remember that story line. It was the huge crossover story with One Life To Live. Babe’s baby was there on that show and Babe had Bianca’s baby. Babe didn’t know until later she had Bianca’s baby but didn’t say anything until she got her baby back. Not only did Bianca go through months of thinking her daughter died, she got pushed off the balcony by Babe’s husband when she tried to get her daughter back. I miss AMC now :(
If you ever get to see Devious Maids, Susan is much better in that type of role over Erica. Susan does do well with comedy IMO. Not award winning, but very decent.

Yes NOW I remember---Babe! I totally forgot about her!! (And you'd think i'd remember with a name like that lol) I also forgot that she really didn't know it wasn't her own baby till time had passed. Now it's all coming back to me---I remember not really knowing who to root for because they were both victims in a way. I also remember the ending of that storyline to be anticlimactic. I expected Bianca to KILL Babe...Man that was a great storyline though! I tuned back out once it was over.
I'll have a look at Devious Maids...never heard of that one.

John played Edmund Grey, his best known role, on All My Children from 1992 to 2005.

Speaking of Ebbie, the actor who played Tiny Tim in the movie is none other than Taran Noah Smith!

Such a cute little boy, and 'EBBIE' was such a tender bittersweet story: SUSAN LUCCI ends of loosing not only her sister, but also the love of her life!!!:(:(:(:(
(although i have to say that i enjoyed boogieing to the 70 s disco, and seeing those 3 'spirit of the past' change fashion for each decade lol):D:D:D

Christopher 04-01-2020, 07:44 AM I'll have a look at Devious Maids...never heard of that one.
Marc Cherry, a writer from The Golden Girls and creator of Desperate Housewives, made the show. It's a dramedy. I also recommend Desperate Housewives if you haven't seen that one. It was very creative and sometimes twisted with the stories they did. It's also a dramedy even though it was nominated in the comedy category for reward shows.

Then I know what to expect with Devious Maids. I watched Desperate Housewives back in the day for about the first 3 seasons. I think after that I tuned out because the show went off the rails from what I remember.
So I may like Devious Maids since it's not too long a series at just 49 episodes. I think DH went on a little too long, but in the beginning it was a great show.
Why was Devious Maids so short?

That's a shame. I love their last season because it's centered on Bree. I have love Marcia Cross's acting since Melrose Place and love what she brought to Desperate Housewives. Her one liners are the best. Anyone can do slapstick comedy, but having the right tone and expression to give a one liner shows talent. If it wasn't for her, I probably would have tuned out during season 5.

Lifetime canceled it because of low ratings.

Well, I wouldn't necessarily say that. Comedy is hard.
