Braff's J.D. Dorian character is based on Scrubs creator Bill Lawrence's college friend John Doris. "This is the guy I based SCRUBS on and my best pal from college," Lawrence tweeted (https://twitter.com/VDOOZER/status/1243208232174116864), in retweeting Doris. "He’s out here in Los Angeles running a hospital (like JD would), and I’m proud he’s a pal.
