BLAIR studied 'Law', but decided to become the headmaster of the 'Eastland school for girls' to save it financially: i thought that was quite classy of her, and it proved how much she loved her old school!:talk:

What was she in the 2001 reunion movie? I too can't picture her a lawyer. She did have good business sense, so I could see her running Warner Enterprises...whatever it was that company did.

As for hiring Blair as a lawyer? Hell no!

She ran a hotel chain. And since Eastland was closed, she didn't do a very good job of running it.

Blair always struck me as one of the least brightest of the Eastland 8.

I thought she had good business sense? I saw a few scenes where someone rattled off complicated business jargon, and Blair knew exactly what they were talking about.

I wouldn't call her the least brightest....the most shallow yes, but not the least brightest.

Does anyone remember specifics of the I.Q. episode? I vaguely recall one of them was surprisingly high and the others were shocked. Was it Blair? Or one of the Lost Girls?

Ouch! That was really mean: BLAIR was absolutely not the 'least brightest' (she only acted like the 'blond dumb' to annoy JO). In fact, she did pretty well in her grades and was quite academic.
TOOTIE on the other hand was not very interested in studies...

Agree about Tootie (though I love her). Not calling her dumb at all, but out of the 4, she was the least academic and cared most about acting.

If we're going to rank then on brightest to least brightest:

1. Blair
2. Jo
3. Natalie
4. Tootie

The more I think about it, the more I say Blair was the most brightest of the bunch. She was just shallow.

Thank you again [B]cfr1970: it's always a pleasure talking to you!

The core of 4 were bright (although maybe JO was the most popular at college and was at the top of her class as we know).:happyface

BLAIR on the other hand loved to act 'dumb blonde' to annoy JO or when she was flirting with the boys, but she was definitely more than meet the eyes.
I believe her 'shallowness' was just an act: she was definitely deep when it came to friendship!:talk:

Yes, as early as season 2 she's already habitually listening to EF Hutton, lol.

I wouldn't call her the least brightest....the most shallow yes, but not the least brightest.

:yeahthat

She's very intelligent, she just doesn't dwell on it. When Mrs. Garrett said Jo did so well on her entrance exams, Blair blows that off with, "Psh, that thing's a breeze. I got a 96." (okay she doesn't actually say "psh", but she gives that air of it, lol).

Does anyone remember specifics of the I.Q. episode?

Do we?? Several of us do! :lightb:

One of the Lost Girls. Here was the part regarding Blair:

Cindy: "Hey Blair, do you wanna see your IQ?" [shows Blair]

Blair: [lit up with delight] "Great! My IQ's higher than my weight. :) :snob: "

Yep! I knew it was Blair! Higher than her weight puts her in 3 digits. And in Season 1 i'd peg her at 120-125 lbs. And higher than that is above average intelligence!

I think Blair's shallowness was real and she simply evolved and grew more as the series progressed. Meeting and knowing Jo really helped in that area, and I think it's the episode mentioned earlier in another thread when they visited friends in the city where we first see that.

Blair making those tuna fish sandwiches shocked her shallow friend so much while Blair thought nothing of it. I think that was where we first saw her begin to lose her shallowness. And afterwards, she still played it as more of an act or to be funny...and yes to annoy Jo.

Hey, that's welcome here! I did the same thing myself when I binged the whole series again (minus a few episodes I don't watch anymore) a couple of summers ago. I specifically remember making a season 1 "play-by-play" thread as I watched each episode, lol. I even kept a running tally of "rump references" to Mrs. Garrett's ample backside. :)

Oh yes it was definitely real, and never completely went away. It was part of her character.

Yes, their split trip to NY---I do love that one!

Blair making those tuna fish sandwiches shocked her shallow friend so much while Blair thought nothing of it. I think that was where we first saw her begin to lose her shallowness.

Yes, that's where we first see---away from school, at least, and to a very strong degree---how Blair and Jo learned from each other without perhaps even realizing it.

Since I haven't seen the Edna Edibles seasons in 30+ years (it hurts to write that number!) they're like new so I get all excited when 3pm comes and the show starts now. I remember the 85 & 86 seasons with Over our Heads because I faithfully watched every Saturday night for those seasons.

So I probably won't be posting all excited for those since they won't seem "new". But 87 & 88 episodes i'll probably get all giddy again and post like a fiend because I know I tuned out by then so they'll be new to me. It's nice that there's still much for me to look forward to! I just HATE that i'm watching butchered TV versions! :(

And I want to see season 1 when it cycles around again to try and tell those Lost Girls apart more this time.

Anyway, these episodes are really helping to keep me sane during this current time. I don't even want to mention it i'm so sick of it....but watching FOL has been the perfect escape from it!! And I can't get that damn theme song out of my head lol. I sing it to myself throughout the day.:lol:

I hear ya...here and social media have been good outlets for me. And tonight I got out of doors and had my first nature walk of the season---felt so good after being isolated all day! lol Only, I lost my phone, I'm afraid in the park. :( I went back tonight with a flashlight and couldn't find it. I may try again in day light later today.

And I can't get that damn theme song out of my head lol. I sing it to myself throughout the day.:lol:

Hahaha, I do it too!! Especially when I'm binging on the show---my favorite one to do is the seasons 2-6 closing theme---I love rockin' out with my bad self to that one! :guitar: :drummer: I really jam! :D

Blair was also failed at being a headmistress since Eastland ended up closing and she couldn't save it. She was way too young to be a headmistress back then too. No wonder the attempted spinoff never aired.

I feel exactly the same way cfr1970!
In fact, i am having a rerun of the show and i'm now on season 2: the early years are definitely the best, because JO and BLAIR don't know each other that well yet, but you can obviously see how drawn they are to one another (despite their different personalities).:D
And yes okay, BLAIR might have been 'shallow' at first, but that's partly due to her upbringing: her parents never took time to spend quality time with her and teach her wrong from right (they just showed her with money), and it isn't until MRS G appears into her life, (guiding her with patience and understanding), that BLAIR gradually begins to change.:)
Actually, the first interaction between MRS G (then KIMBERLY's housekeeper) and BLAIR (then rebellious and rude) was spectacular: on the episode the 'Girl's school', the way she spoke down on the feisty red haired is the classic attitude coming from a spoiled rich girl, and she almost get caught smoking ha ha ha!;)
By season 1, MRS G gets her revenge though, when she humbles BLAIR on the 'Rough housing' episode, and lectures her about being mean to CINDY: rude and inconsiderate at first, BLAIR gradually shows her repentance and even hug tomboyish CINDY! And from then on, gone is her 'nasty' behaviour', to be replaced by her 'caring' and sometimes still 'shallow'...:p

It's actually by season 3 that BLAIR loosens up a little, and the best example for it, is during the episode 'The 4 musketeers': as the 'rich spoiled girl', BLAIR doesn't care how much dirt and paint she gets on her, as long as she enjoys spending her time with her 'Peekskill' family! (she even came up with one of her 'brilliant' ideas ha ha ha!) and again, the look on MRS G's face is hilarious when she finds her 4 charges swimming in paint lol!

I could spend hours talking about FOL, and i'm even writing stories to send online to the 'Fanfiction' site once i'm done;).

OMG I have to see this "Girls School" episode! Blair talks down to and is rude to Mrs. G?! I'd love to see that. So we actually get to see when Mrs. G. first meet the girls? That's so cool.

I think someone said that episode is in the Complete Series dvd set? I'm not a big Different Strokes fan so the only time I probably saw that episode was when it originally aired and IMDB says it was May 4, 1979....I was just 9 years old so I have zero recollection of it...but now i'm dying to see it. :)

BTW, the painting episode is definitely one of my favorite episode of the whole series!

Oh my god, you actually gotta watch the 'Girl's school'! I never bought the whole FOL box set (i just the DVDS gradually one by one as they came out) and the reason i bought DS first season, was cos i grew up watching it.:talk:

Like i said before, i only discovered FOL later on as an adult after watching the last episode on DS, called 'The girl's school': NANCY (from the 'lost girl') was supposed to be the main character and has most lines on it, but when BLAIR made her appearance and interacts with MRS G, that was what did it for me! From then on, i was drawn to those two, and NANCY became the 'wallpaper' she was later on in season 1....
Yep, i did hear that on the FOL DVD set box that 'Girl's school' episode is included, and you have to pay attention to it: i'm not saying anymore, but you'll definitely get a view from the REAL LOST GIRLS!:happyface:happyface
