7The previous Seasons were about them being poor and surviving the Ghetto but the sixth Season was more "Normal," and they seemed more middle class than straight up poor. The Storylines were a LOT more relaxed and more fluffy than the other Seasons. The only 6th Season episode that had the "Struggling," feel of the earlier episodes was "Where Have All The Doctors Gone?" Where the Evans and Penny get sick and the uppity Doctor planned to leave The Ghetto Hospital for the more upscale and sophisticated Hospital in a more Uppity Neighborhood but was talked into staying when Florida points out that Penny is really sick and implied she might even die and pointed out that the "lower class," people really needed her to stay in the Ghetto. Really powerful episode that seemed reminiscent of say Season 2. But the majority of Season 6 episodes seemed so normal they might as well have been Friends or Full House or George Lopez Show LMAO. :D

I like season 6 better than season 4 and 5. Everybody seem to have matured in their role and with Florida being godmother to everybody, giving them advice and keep them in line.

There were many funny episodes in that season including three episodes with Sweetdaddy, and one with Gary Coleman. Bookman also making more frequent appearances and being nicer to Evans family.

I re watched that episode with Micheal and that was a weird episode say the least. The white parents were loony and somewhat unbelievable. I mean which parents would let their teenage daughter move in to 1 bedroom apt with a guy (no matter what color).

They kind of lost me as what message the show was trying to send.

They saw Michael as PROTECTION for their daughter:lol:

There was more income coming in to the household so the Evans did have a little more to spend than in earlier seasons. I recall JJ working, Florida driving a bus, Keith driving a cab and maybe Thelma working too. It wasn’t just James working menial jobs to support five people anymore.

Thelma wasnt doing anything which was odd. And JJ was not working either remember he lost his job at the start of season 6. So it was just Keith and Florida

JJ was working. He was giving Art Classes for pay though it wasn't much. Michael pointed out that JJ charged his Students only a few dollars per lesson or something like that. I remember a GT Fan asking something like,"Why was Thelma basically a BUM in Season 6? She was just sitting around the house relying on her Mother, her Husband, and Brother's incomes and wasn't even going to school! She was a freeloading Leech in Season 6. Michael was more useful in Season 6 than she was as he was going to College to become a JUDGE and he was YOUNGER than her and still technically a child as he was only 17 and just graduated High school a year early! The early Thelma actually went to College and WORKED! In Season 6, Thelma iwas only a stay at home housewife who didn't even have a baby to raise! It would have been understandable if she and Keith had a baby to raise but they didn't. Thelma needed to get off her lazy Ass and WORK!" This Poster was so emotionally invested in this and so passionate! LOL!:D

That's right he was self employed which was dumb when he had a career job in season 5

I think Thelma was working part time at boutique in season 6 where she sometimes would substitute for Willona in the shop. In episode where Evans found a house, she said she working about 15 hours a week at store.

I remember we had a big recession in late 70s with high unemployment and economic hard time . I think the show was trying to be reflective of time.
