Or more specifically, the fact that she was an Academy Award winner prior to her launching her sitcom? I started thinking about this after watching the recent Nick Knacks retrospective (about the history of Nickelodeon) on The Donna Reed Show on YouTube.
If I have my facts straight, Donna Reed was always cast as girl-next-door (https://www.theguardian.com/film/2010/jan/10/screen-legend-donna-reed) virtuous types. But she never had much of a career as a contract player at MGM (https://books.google.com/books?id=jEiRAwAAQBAJ&pg=PT30&lpg=PT30&dq=donna+reed+mgm+contract&source=bl&ots=bmNBnDt5Tg&sig=ACfU3U04oAzPbP6IVyOibh6wSZJhQb7V3A&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjg1KGGge_nAhUMPa0KHfDmC7kQ6AEwCHoECBAQAQ#v=onepage&q=donna%20reed%20mgm%20contract&f=false) during their Golden Age (https://apnews.com/2af03e02bd126ae51ba4b832e61ca575). She with all due respect, mostly made forgettable B films as like I said before, the perennial good girl. After leaving MGM, she was still trapped in mostly forgettable B films except for It's a Wonderful Life, but that wasn't appreciated until years later when it was seen annually on TV.
She was then brilliantly cast against type (https://books.google.com/books?id=TVZ-1V0vLRUC&pg=PR10&lpg=PR10&dq=cast+against+type+donna+reed+from+here+to+eternity&source=bl&ots=pZQbjkxDWw&sig=ACfU3U2MT8o6Y_uIXleL9T6ym_iuBeiddw&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjXto_0gO_nAhVLY6wKHYjnD3IQ6AEwBXoECBAQAQ#v=onepage&q=cast%20against%20type%20donna%20reed%20from%20here%20to%20eternity&f=false) as a bad girl (https://www.bestmoviesbyfarr.com/articles/donna-reed-bio/2016/05) prostitute in From Here to Eternity, WON an Oscar for it (https://www.nytimes.com/1986/01/15/obituaries/donna-reed-oscar-winner-and-tv-star-is-dead-at-64.html), and never had any follow up except for the huge success of her TV series playing the perfect wife and mother.
