We have confirmed that Rick Moranis has closed a deal to return to the next Honey, I Shrunk the Kids sequel Shrunk. The movie will be made for the theatrical side, not Disney+.
Disney was trying to quiet rumors that Moranis was returning, but our breaking news today is that Rick Moranis’ deal is done.
As previously reported, the pic’s original director Joe Johnston will be back with Josh Gad also starring. The movie centers around Gad’s character who is the son of Rick Moranis’ Wayne Szalinski.
The son is aspiring to be a great scientist like his father, but accidentally shrinks the kids.

Tubehead 02-19-2020, 09:30 PM I enjoyed honey i blow up the kid!
Hawkee 02-25-2020, 03:36 AM Disney is gonna make another sequel to Honey I Shrunk The Kids? I thought that the sequels were done after the direct to video Honey We Shrunk Ourselves so I think Shrunk will be a huge hit when it debuts. I bet Josh Gad is gonna play Nick Salinski all grown up and this sequel's storyline will be the same as Honey I Shrunk The Kids but with Wayne's son as the star. I think Disney is also planning to reintroduce the movies to a new generation of fans. Because after the success of Honey I Shrunk The Kids and the release of Honey I Blew Up The Kid Disney knew with a monster hit Honey I Shrunk The Kids would continue to be popular and even attractions at Disneyland and Walt Disney World made it huge. So I think Shrunk will find a huge audience when it debuts

by Nick Romano
May 5, 2020
Moranis returned to the limelight for season 1, episode 5 of the streaming platform original series "Prop Culture" that goes behind the stories of some of cinema's most iconic props.
The installment was dedicated to 1989's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids, which Walt Disney will be expanding with another sequel called Shrunk.
Funny enough, Moranis had some thoughts about a reboot to the movie that he shared on Prop Culture.
"If Honey, I Shrunk the Kids were made today, it would be made very differently, probably just with green screen and computer-generated stuff," he said.
Moranis will reprise his role as Wayne Szalinski, the kooky scientist who accidentally shrunk his own children and lost them in the backyard in the original movie, in Shrunk.
Josh Gad will play Wayne's grown-up son Nick, who repeats his father's mistake by shrinking his own kids.
So much of the magic from the 1989 classic sparked from director Joe Johnston, Moranis continued. "He had the vision of this in his head. And on that movie, I was really an actor. I think I drove him crazy a couple of times trying to get more comedy into it 'cause I was always looking for how to disrupt and get some more jokes in, and poor Joe just wanted to make his movie."
Johnston will actually return to direct Shrunk, which, one might guess, attributed to Moranis' decision to make a comeback after all this time.

A_Ghost_named_Samuel 05-16-2020, 01:38 PM I'm really looking forward to the return of Rick Moranis.
MacLeaper 05-21-2020, 11:54 AM I don't generally care much for a lot of "reboots" as they often just aren't that good. However, a sequel that still stars the original star of the first movie is certainly welcome. I'm particularly excited to see Rick Moranis acting again.:)

“Honey, We Blew Up Ourselves” makes more sense.

Josh Gad isn't letting multiple setbacks shrink his hopes for Disney's Honey, I Shrunk the Kids reboot.
He was previously announced to star in the upcoming installment, titled Shrunk, back in 2019. Now, he's providing an update on the film's status on social media — and things aren't looking too good.
"A lot of u ask me what's going on with this film," Gad tweeted.
"Truth is, we were inches from starting and then COVID hit, inches from starting again & then my schedule exploded with conflicts, inches from starting again & budget got the best of us. If you want it, let your local @disney know."
