I thought Kirk was a good foil for Dick but at the same time Cindy made him a more rounded character.

I agree. Kirk was a solid character and I loved his interactions with Dick, George, and the others. His departure was a major loss for the series.

You can blame Newhart for that, Newhart did not like the focus being put on Kirk's character so he let him go, I just think Newhart is jealous he is stealing the limelight from Newhart

I also liked Kirk. And I preferred the original maid over the ditzy Stephanie. Michael and Stephanie got quite annoying after awhile as well as the excessive appearances of Larry, Darryl and Darryl. I eventually stopped watching after a few seasons - the show just got too silly.
