One exception that comes to mind is "Designing Women" particularly with the southern-charm speaking Julia, and the rural small townness of Charlene. "Carrie" and "Richie" from "King of Queens" have native New York accents. RetroGuy2000 02-01-2020, 03:24 PM "Carrie" and "Richie" from "King of Queens" have native New York accents. That's a good point. I even remember the episode where Carrie tries to lose her accent. Actually, there might have been two such episodes. I seem to recall an episode where Doug made her feel bad about her accent, and another episode where she tried to lose her accent to impress people at work. Bonniegirl 02-01-2020, 03:29 PM But the school is in upstate NY , if the girls aren't from NY city or North Jersey they wouldn't have that typical NY type accent! People from upstate NY speak a lot different ! That is what I always found to be true!;) 80s Dude 02-01-2020, 07:50 PM But the school is in upstate NY , if the girls aren't from NY city or North Jersey they wouldn't have that typical NY type accent! Bonniegirl 02-01-2020, 08:54 PM Westchester County is not upstate. It's in the NYC metro area. Oh sorry ! I didn't watch the show much, I had thought it was upstate! RetroGuy2000 02-02-2020, 01:05 PM I have definitely heard that everything north of NYC is considered "upstate". But whether or not it's considered upstate, I wouldn't expect Bronx-style accents there. (I just remembered Boner from Growing Pains' NYC accent). |
