Watching Inside edition right now, lots of stuff on with Kobe and GiGi. I'm in tears!!:( I'm seeing one bright light in this terrible tragedy. They had such a wonderful Father and Daughter relationship, they really loved each other and GiGi was following in his footsteps as a basketball player! Horrible that they passed away so untimely and so tragically but my point being is they passed away together and are now together in eternity in heaven!;)

Mom and I were trying out my new antenna on my TV when we were testing channels and at first I thought there was a new wildfire in California when Mom freaked out and said "Oh my gosh what happened to Kobe Bryant is he in trouble with the law?" And then I read the caption that said "KOBE BRYANT PASSES AWAY IN HELICOPTER CRASH" and Mom thought it was a hoax and then I told Mom that it really happened and she couldn't believe her eyes that something terrible happened to Kobe Bryant. And since then Mom has been trying to collect anything interesting relating to Kobe Bryant and I'm on the look out for a Kobe action figure to add to my collection. I hope this investigation goes well because Kobe Bryant's relatives will demand answers to what really started this crash

Kobe Bryant gets killed in a helicopter crash... This is something I will never get over for as long as I live.

I mean, all the accomplishments Mr. Bryant achieved (especially being the first pro-athlete to win an Oscar)... no person with such accomplishments deserves to die the way he did. I always thought any athlete would be lucky to spend literally his entire career with ONE team.

A "second act" unrealized, a birthday unreached... That helicopter crash was a waste of a real top-tier legend.

In the upcoming All Star game, one side will wear a patch with the number 2 , representing Gianna, the other side will wear a number 24 patch, representing Kobe, and both teams will have a patch with 9 stars, honoring all the victims.

Makes me think of the day in 1979 the Yankees went to Ohio for Thurman Munson’s funeral, their captain who had died days earlier when the plane he was piloting crashed (he was alone onboard), and then flew back to NY and played a night game.

Despite winning an Oscar, Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant was denied membership into the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences this week.

Winning an Oscar automatically allows someone to be considered for entry into the Academy; however, a spot is not guaranteed.

Bryant won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film this year as the executive producer of Dear Basketball.

Dear Basketball was based on a letter Bryant wrote for the Players' Tribune upon deciding to retire from the NBA following the 2015-16 season.

Per Josh Rottenberg of the Los Angeles Times, there may have been multiple reasons for the Academy denying Bryant.

One is the fact that he lacks a large body of work.

According to TMZ Sports, one piece of criteria board voters look for in a producer is that they "have the equivalent of two producer screen credits and perform the majority of the functions of a producer on theatrical feature films of the caliber which in the opinion of the executive committee reflect the high standards of the Academy."

Rottenberg also noted that there was a petition leading up to the Oscars that Bryant have his nomination rescinded because of a sexual assault allegation made against him in 2003. The charges were eventually dropped.

While Bryant may not yet be part of the Academy, he is a lock to be named a Basketball Hall of Famer when he becomes eligible in 2019.

The pilot of a helicopter that crashed into a Southern California hillside and killed Kobe Bryant, himself, and seven others, was reprimanded (https://ktla.com/2020/02/21/kobe-bryants-pilot-had-been-disciplined-by-faa-over-weather-related-flight-violation/) five years ago for flying without permission into airspace while he had reduced visibility, according to a Federal Aviation Administration enforcement record.

Ara Zobayan was counseled by an FAA investigator after he violated FAA rules by crossing into busy airspace near Los Angeles International Airport on May 11, 2015, according to the record, which was first reported Friday by the Los Angeles Times.

The record doesn't indicate whether Zobayan was carrying any passengers at the time.

According to the FAA report, Zobayan's helicopter was near the Hawthorne, California, airport and heading north when he asked the LAX tower for permission to cross LAX airspace. Zobayan was told that weather conditions didn't meet the minimum for pilots using visual flight rules -- that is, flying by sight.

Zaboyan was asked whether he could maintain "VFR conditions."

Zaboyan replied that he could "maintain special VFR" -- meaning he sought permission to fly by sight in less-than-optimal visibility.

When air traffic control denied the request and told him to stay clear of the area, Zobayan replied that he could "maintain VRF" but during the conversation, the helicopter entered the airspace, according to the record.

The eight-episode The Last Dance will feature Bryant saying Jordan is like a big brother to him. “To hear Kobe in that scene say he’s (Michael) like my big brother and then to have Michael give that famous speech that he gave at Kobe’s memorial service, saying, ‘Rest in peace, little brother,’ it just shows you how genuine that relationship was between the two of them," director Jason Hehir tells The Athletic. "That scene is so much more poignant now and it was such a cool scene to begin with.” The documentary also includes three separate interviews with Jordan that included moments that were so emotional he had to ask for a break.
