Just watched last night's episode where they get the furniture (I can't think of that word which begins with A) and they mentioned it was done for 40th anniversary but this is a 1976 show and the 35th anniversary of the business was 2 years earlier.

Strange.

MIKEPR, the episode you're referring to is "Here Today, Gone Today" from the sixth (and final) season, and its original airdate was 7 December 1976. It focused on Fred celebrating his fortieth year as a junkman; Lamont decides to have the living room furniture reupholstered and the pickup truck repaired as a surprise gift...when Fred mistakenly thinks that the furniture and pickup have both been stolen after they turn up missing, he decides to file a bogus insurance claim and have the furniture replaced.

The other episode you mentioned was season four's "Ol' Brown Eyes" (original airdate: 27 September 1974), in which Fred discovers a signet ring in his home--an anniversary present from Lamont in honor of Fred's thirty-fifth anniversary in the junk and scrap business--that he later thinks was among the items stolen from Frank Sinatra's hotel suite (seeing that both Fred and Sinatra share the same initials).

I was equally puzzled by that snafu as well; I kept wondering how Fred was able to celebrate both his thirty-fifth and fortieth anniversaries in two different episodes, two years apart. In the end, I ultimately dismissed it as a continuity error on the writers' part.

Reupholstered was the word I was thinking of I'm not sure why thought it began with an A.

There have been cases where it's been questionable concerning writing of certain events on the show.

Check out the post on Fred's Niece I mention some stuff.
