Huntsman announced this morning she's stepping down from the ABC daytime talk show after 16 months to help lead her father Jon Huntsman's campaign for his former job as Utah governor. “This is always such a hard thing to do,” she said on Monday’s show. “This is a really special table — the most iconic show, I think, on television, and the smartest women that I’ve ever worked with — but today I am saying goodbye."

Report: Abby Huntsman is leaving The View over its "toxic" culture and a "soured" relationship with Meghan McCain (https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/13/business/abby-huntsman-quits-the-view/index.html)

CNN Business says it spoke to half a dozen sources who say that the two conservative View co-hosts have had recent tensions. The sources "described a toxic work environment, including a soured relationship between Huntsman and McCain. The dispute with McCain was just one factor in Huntsman's feeling that she should leave," reports CNN Business, which adds: "Huntsman and McCain, both of whom hail from famed Republican families, were allies behind the scenes until recently, when there was a dispute between the two women...The conflict was over Huntsman's on-air enthusiasm for her children, the people said. McCain, who wrote an op-ed in The New York Times about her miscarriage last summer and has continued to talk publicly about her fertility challenges, suggested to Huntsman that the child-centric chats were insensitive."

I knew that she wouldn’t last long on there.

Report: Abby Huntsman refused ABC and The View producers' call for her to refute on-air reports of a "toxic culture" (https://www.thedailybeast.com/abc-execs-try-to-get-abby-huntsman-to-lie-about-the-toxic-culture-at-the-view)

Huntsman, who announced Monday she's leaving the ABC daytime talk show, was asked to contradict stories from CNN Business (https://www.cnn.com/2020/01/13/business/abby-huntsman-quits-the-view/index.html) and Page Six (https://pagesix.com/2020/01/13/abc-treated-abby-like-s-t-inside-abby-huntsmans-exit-from-the-view/) of a "toxic culture" on set, reports The Daily Beast's Lloyd Grove. "Before Tuesday’s live show, according to multiple sources, Senior Executive Producer Hilary Estey McLoughlin and Barbara Fedida—ABC News’ senior vice president for talent, editorial strategy and business affairs—asked Huntsman to go on-camera and counter reports of internal strife by putting a positive spin on The View’s supposedly collegial workplace instead of the scorpions-in-a-bottle ambiance that is frequently portrayed in the tabloids," reports Grove. "But Huntsman, in her second year on The View, instead took the advice of the talk show’s moderator Whoopi Goldberg, whom the 33-year-old mother of three young children considers a mentor; Goldberg, 64, told her not to do it, sources said, because she had already said her warm goodbyes and praised her co-workers on Monday’s episode 'as the smartest women I’ve ever worked with,' adding, 'I love all of you here'—and why fuel tabloid gossip by being defensive?" Abby Huntsman reportedly left The View in January after multiple conversations with ABC about the show's toxicity (https://www.usmagazine.com/entertainment/news/abby-huntsman-quit-the-view-after-reporting-toxicity/)

According to an excerpt from the paperback version of Ramin Setoodeh's Ladies Who Punch: The Explosive Inside Story of The View, “Abby, who had spent just over a year on The View, reached her decision after multiple conversations with ABC executives about the toxicity at the root of the show. When they didn’t respond to her, she told them that she’d like to move on, according to sources with knowledge of those conversations. Abby didn’t think that anyone at ABC was looking out for her.”

Abby Huntsman Says Leaving "The View" was “The Best Decision I Could Have Made For My Life”
by Bruce Haring
June 3, 2021

In case, you were wondering, former co-host Abby Huntsman isn’t missing "The View". She left in January 2020 amid swirling rumors of bad blood with Meghan McCain and the other co-hosts.

“I don’t talk much about that time, and I won’t, but the decision that I made was probably the best decision I could have made for my life, for my mental health, for my happiness, for my family,” she told People.

“And when I made the decision, I remember walking out those doors after they told me, ‘No one quits their dream job in television,’ and I said, ‘Well, this isn’t the dream job that I was hoping, in many ways, that it was,'” she said.

The decision was one “that I felt in my gut, actually, for quite some time about making, much longer than people probably realize.”

She still remembers the feeling of relief on her last day as she departed.

“I could hear the birds chirping in the city, in Central Park,” she said, “and I looked up in the sky and I thought, ‘This is the best thing I did for myself.’ Because I can see the world, I can hear the world, I’m more present.”

She said the last year has been “a lot of healing and a lot of asking myself questions and thinking things back and wondering, ‘Did you make a mistake, did you handle this right or that right?'”

Huntsman worked on her father Jon Huntsman Jr.’s campaign for governor of Utah. Her whole family caught the coronavirus, and then her father lost his primary race.

“I could sit here and tell you everything’s a lesson, but no… that was one of the hardest things I ever went through,” said Huntsman.
