It’s a done deal: NBC has renewed its long-running daytime drama series "Days of Our Lives" for a record 56th season. The announcement comes two weeks after NBC Chairman Paul Telegdy at TCA confirmed that the daytime soap will be coming back.
“We are most grateful to NBC for their enduring faith in the future of Days of our Lives, and we are excited to continue delivering compelling stories to our loyal family of fans into this new decade,” "Days'" EP Ken Corday said today when the renewal was made official.

Days of Our Lives has dropped three cast members this week (https://tvline.com/2020/02/12/days-of-our-lives-freddie-smith-chandler-massey-leaving-sonny-and-will/)
Galen Gering joins Freddie Smith and Chandler Massey, who are being dropped in a cast shakeup. Even though Days of Our Lives was recently renewed for Season 56, all cast members were released from their contracts (https://www.primetimer.com/item/Days-of-Our-Lives-cast-released-from-their-contracts-amid-renewal-talks-with-NBC-70Sqkg) last November.

For a while there, the most recent renewal talks for Days of Our Lives made it look like a real possibility that NBC was going to lose its only remaining soap opera. And why should they? It's probably because DoOL consistently ranks in fourth place among the four remaining primetime soap operas. I am glad to see this renewal announced, thereby meaning DoOL is saved, and launching a brand-new daytime soap opera these days, even if it's just to replace what one network lost, is just impossible. That's probably what I get for suggesting CBS end The Bold and the Beautiful several years ago just so they'll be stuck with one daytime soap opera (The Young and the Restless).
Plus, according to this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cJQWP4ZcXg) at the Freddie & Alyssa YouTube channel, executive producer Ken Corday wants to see DoOL reach the 60-year milestone (and hopefully beyond).
