The delightful fairy-tale musical comedy was ahead of its time

I saw the first season, and yes, it was a very charming show. It didn't pick up any steam because it was just too sweet, clever and wholesome. If it had had bitter, angry jaded humor, it would've done like gangbusters. Same thing with The Goode Family (which also aired on ABC and ran for a short time before getting canceled). Anything nice and wholesome doesn't do well.
I don't think it was "ahead of its time," though. There was the show, When Things Were Rotten, and it's the type of show you more commonly see on British television.
