I have noticed that the trend for this year for people is finding out more about their family ancestry and I cannot figure out why this trend became so popular? Is it because people want their children to know more about their family for history purposes or is it because with families growing smaller now people want to create memories of loved ones? Because I see places like 23 And Me sell ancestry kits during holidays such as Christmas and I think this new trend will continue for years to come. It used to be that people used to create their own family trees and there was software for the computer that enabled people to create their virtual family tree and now that there's ancestry kits being sold are more people gonna learn more about their families than ever?

I guess many people want to know all about their family tree. I don't really get into it, but I know several people who do. I'm pretty sure most of my ancestors were farmers. Not everyone comes from royalty like they show on some of the advertisements. But I think the trend will continue too.

I think that family ancestry is very interesting. My dad wrote his family history and made copies for all of his children. His family is Volga Deutsch(German's from Russia) He wrote a lot of interesting facts about his family who emigrated in the early 1900's. My cousin on my mother's side wrote her family history. She even had it published. Mom's side of the family were Westerner's and my great great grandfather rode with one of the many cattle drives from Texas to Colorado. He ended up running his own cattle ranch in Montana. So many cool interesting things! I am so grateful to them for writing it all down. What a great family gift! :)

I don't care at all. But DH has done all kinds of research! Mixed marriage, haha.

Well, I find these things very interesting indeed. But I suspect that my ancestry is kind of boring (maybe 99 % Scandinavian).

My mom told me about my grandmother, and a few further back ancestors. My dad knew less on his side. My dad would have loved to search his family but in the 1990's wasn't much info to find like we have today. Internet is wonderful. My mom says there was a lot of crookedness and didn't have any interest to know much more. I have no husband,no children and niece and nephews I am not that close to live in other states. I just do the hunting for I am just curious. and ?? a little lonely. I can spent hours hunting for people. . Found out I related to President Grover Cleveland. So I suppose we have a joy in it for it is something to do.
OH I do watch a lot of METV too. I love that station.

I found out I have some Russian in my family history too! ;) My Sister did the 23 and me which gets more into your genetics than the family tree ancestry! Well I always knew I was mainly Polish and Lithuanian ! Grandparents came from there as children to Pa.coal country ! I'm not a coal miners Daughter but a coal miners Grand daughter and Great Grand daughter ! :) My parents, aunts and uncles came to Philly and didn't follow in the tradition of family men of being coal miners! Good!!;) such a hard, rough job !!:(

Anyway , my Sister did the 23 and me and of course Poland and Lithuania showed up, along with Russia ( around Moscow) and also a little in Hungary ! I think that is why I am so glamorous!! Yes Dahling , like Zsa Zsa and Eva Gabor !! :D

But yeah I find this very interesting! I been meaning to do this myself cause I knew other siblings who did 23 and me and they basically come up the same nationalities , but the percentage can be slightly different in siblings depending how your gene pattern mix is!! ;)

I've taken it, and here's the break-down as we speak...

42% Germanic...which includes The Netherlands and Belgium.
27% England and Wales...that didn't shock me since BOTH parts of my family had that.
6% Scots-Irish...I won't doubt it's more Scottish since I subconsciously like bagpipe music.
5% Sweden...from my dad's mom's side.
5% Norway...see Sweden.
4% France...this one surprised me...I wouldn't doubt that this was from my great-grandpa's side on my dad's side since Guadagna is Northern Italian and Northern Italy had a lot of French influence...maybe that side of the family moved over to Tuscany during The Napoleon Empire.
3% Spain...This one surprised me as well...this is probably from my dad's side as well so there may have been someone who was from Sicily since that was ruled by Spain once...does that make me Hispanic?
3% Greek and Balkan...This one was a surprise as well...I think this may have come from my dad's side.
3% Eastern Europe and Russia...Thank God my grandma from my mom's side is gone...if I told her she's part Slavic...that would've killed her! But one part of my family was called Zarnikow.
1% Baltics...probably from my mom's side...we had a secretary at my church that was Lithuanian descent who LOVED my mom...I can see why...I may have Latvian and Lithuanian blood.
1% Finnish...probably from my dad's side since it's like Scandinavia...but NOT like Scandinavia at all!

What it all boils-down to is...I'm 100% American...though I can't live The American Way right now....ohno:ohno:ohno:ohno:

One of these days, I have to take a test like that. Even though I don't expect too many surprises from it (I am probably about 99 % Scandinavian and maybe 1 % Finnish or something).
