View Full Version : Edna's Edibles or Over Our Heads?
Wawwie 12-29-2019, 09:39 PM I really liked the Edna's Edibles food store. I HATED Over Our Heads which was beyond stupid IMO especially all those tacky chachkis that were for sale. Who would ever want that crappy junk? The gals should have rebuilt Edna's Edibles Gourmet Food Shop after the fire.

Well it is a "fact " that we voted, even if the sticker doesn't say "Facts" !:wave:
RetroGuy2000 12-30-2019, 08:17 AM I prefer the Dorm Years and the Cafeteria Years, but if we're limited to these two choices, Edna's Edibles was way better than Over Our Heads. I do remember being very excited about OOH and the new theme song, as a kid, but what did I know? I was, like, 10!

Yeah, they're just polling about between the 2 stores on the series.

Hey, it was the '80s---we were impressionable!
Wawwie 12-30-2019, 03:05 PM After the fire, I wonder if Mrs. Garrett's son Raymond got any of the insurance money since he's the one who bought the store. IMO, it was like a slap in the face to him when they rebuilt with Over Our Heads because Raymond wanted his mom to do what she loved best which is cooking and creating. Over Our Heads was beyond tacky. I always wondered.... WHY???
'80sSitcoms 12-30-2019, 03:07 PM Oooooo, that's a great point about Raymond!
Although, Mrs. Garrett did say she felt the time for EE had come and gone (though most fans would disagree!).

Same

Because it was the '80s, and Spencer's Gifts was hot, while quiche and soufflés were somehow out. It was a time when TV network executives were so obsessed with coke parties and pastel-colored clothes with huge shoulder pads, that all TV shows began to resemble Miami Vice.

Big mistake. Vibes like that do not stand the test of time. They should have stuck with Edna's Edibles.

It's kinda funny, because while Spencer's had cool toys for kids, like that "Pin Art" device, I don't actually remember FOL showing anything cool or innovative. It's like the girls only invested in the worst items, like the Red Thing.

Did you write that post with a fish pen? ;)
These days Spencer's has lots of things that would be extremely inappropriate for kids.

Yes, it's a very different store than what it was in the 1980s. Weirdly, you could now buy the bongs Tootie and Natalie purchased at the record store, and the outfits Blair mistakenly shipped from Henri of Hollywood, all at Spencer's!
Johnny be good! 01-17-2020, 10:29 AM The crew really did their homework with Over Our Heads. With Charlotte Rae having drastically reduced her role on the show, Edna's Edibles probably wouldn't be a focal point like it was.

I don't see why not. There were plenty of episodes during the Edna's Edibles years when Charlotte wasn't really the focal point, but the shop was still featured prominently. I'm thinking, for example, of the Gamma Gamma Gamma sorority catering episode, where Mrs. Garrett refused to make the food, so the girls made the worst possible Chinese food, then agreed to put the "questionable" items at the back of the table... and all of the items ended up at the back of the table!
Definitely Edna's Edibles, as it was a continuation of what Edna loved to do and "the girls" were still helping out in a culinary setting. Over Our Heads was kind of a mess, ad we even saw the cast less in that setting than in EE, even after Mrs. G had left.

EDNA'S EDIBLE definitely: BLAIR, JO, NAT & TOOTIE were still 'her girls' and leaving under the same roof like she was the mother and they were her kids hee hee!:happyface
