Once again, it's in two volumes and once again, it's costly. But those of us collecting this series, know how it goes.

As the fans know, season five has a cast change mid-season. Bub leaves and is replaced by Uncle Charley. This is also Mike's final season (though he returns for the premiere of the sixth season). This is the final black and white season. The DVD cover art has Robbie, Chip and Ernie, which is incorrect. But what are gonna do?

It doesn't seem to be on Amazon yet but this other site has them.

Glad to see this post, as I was hoping they would continue with S5. I just ordered both volumes from Movie Zyng.

I had good luck with purchasing Season 4 from them and with the upgrade to $10 for 2-day shipping for both volumes, it was actually cheaper than other sites.

Thank you soooo much for the link, i bought and it took only 3 days to get them with standard shipping!

They are still DVD-R burned, shiny silk screening, but what is different from buying from amazon when/if available is there is NO Barcode "stating manufactured by Amazon, Lexington, KY" which gave several of my players freezes and the players were all minus and plus. They also all came in perfect clean non scratched condition and not hub loosened from mailing.

Funny, though on the back their is a color much later season photo of the cast with Tina Cole! So a rush job with front and back wrong season photos, also photos are credited to American Broadcasting Company.

I found a good deal on Movies Unlimited again, Season 5 now available for $29.99 (30 bucks) this is the cheapest I've seen compared to other places. Amazon is the worst, charging $35 a piece. You save $10 already by going Movies Unltd.

I read a post at Home Theater Forum that says CBS/MOD DVD has folded and is no longer in business. I don't know what this means for future M3S releases but season 5 might be the last one unless a deal is made with another studio to continue releasing the seasons.

If True and I don't doubt you, this doesn't surprise me at all......The all of a sudden rush released MOD sons seasons every few months after nearly a decade was extremely odd, had no quality control, with the recent 5th season (the last on cbs/b&w) had a group color photo with Tina "Katie" Cole pictured on the back cover from around season 8!

I predicted but did not write here that the possibility of the entire 12 seasons ever being released was nearly impossible and improbable even at a faster past. Even by some miracle if we had gotten seasons 6 thru 8 in 2020, and that would have been alot expected, then season 9 and 10 in 2021, we still had two more seasons to go with season 12 literally never remastered and a mess, plus season 12 contained 24 episodes, so they couldn't have stretched it over two volumes for maximum profit and greed.

I had a deep feeling we would never see the color episodes on dvd, especially with the physical dvd products are declining in sales, as everyone streams, just imagine what it will be like by 2021? There might be mod titles but we will have to download the artwork or burn them ourselves off an encrypted site! LOL

I have always loved the show but it holds the record for the only sitcom to run through the entire 1960's decade and beyond.

For a 12 season show it certainly had shoddy treatment by a major studio. The same was true of Ozzie and Harriet, but that was not controlled by a major studio.

I can't help but think there is more to this than meets the eye. Didn't Warner merge their operation? Point being, maybe CBS made or will make a deal. Besides M3S there is obviously more that is left undone. For streaming don't they need good masters for this and other shows?

Could you post the link to the HTF post? I google this and come up with nothing.

My Three Sons on DVD has always been a problem, seasons 1 & 2 have uncut episodes but the episodes are tainted with the changes to the background music score, while the majority of episodes in seasons 3-5 are either edited or compromised in one form or another. I don't know why CBS chose to release the seasons in half season sets, two volumes per season, doesn't sound like a good idea to me. I did buy seasons 1 & 2 but not 3-5. Despite the grim sounding news about CBS DVD, I think it's still possible that M3S could continue on DVD but will see what happens.

It was an interesting thread on HTF. It seems no one knows what will happen.

The poster who thinks S6 of M3S could be remastered...well, I doubt it. S6 thru S10 have good transfers from the 90s they could use. The only problems with those are the occasional edited episode (a couple in late S7 are notable) and accelerated credits, primarily in S6 and S7, and early in S8.

The WORST thing they could do with S6 is continue using those edited MeTV masters, which some brilliant person did in S4 and S5.

What REALLY needs to be remastered are S11.5 and most of all S12 (sorry for the repetition).

VEI is a studio that could possibly continue with M3S on DVD, VEI has teamed up with CBS previously on other projects but again will just have to wait and see what happens.

It could go to VEI or Shout (that one's doubtful). Shout has put out a lot of old Screen Gems/Viacom shows un-remastered, based on tape masters. I say doubtful on Shout because they've gone off in a different direction and haven't done a sitcom in years.

Right, nothing has been done totally correctly. Season 3 comes the closest.

I agree that Shout seems to have moved on from releasing classic sitcoms.

VEI seems to prefer releasing shows as a complete series, as they've done previously with drama shows like Cannon and Barnaby Jones. If VEI were interested in My Three Sons, I could actually see them releasing it as a complete series, all 12 seasons. I don't know what the quality would be like, probably the same type of edited/compromised episodes CBS has released lately.

Of course the preferred thing would be for M3S to be released as a complete series with all uncut episodes, nothing edited or compromised. A remaster wouldn't be necessary, I'd be happy with 16mm film type quality as long as episodes are uncut. But I imagine even that is probably too much to ask for.

It's interesting that season 12 sounds like it needs the most restoration done because it's also the last and most recent season, 1971-72.

I agree with your 16mm comment. For the most part the quality is OK.

I'm not sure why season 12 is in bad shape. It has not been syndicated since probably the 70s, when 16mm film copies were sent around station to station, and were played on the air via film chains (which probably explains some of the horrible edits that exist today). Therefore when the time came around that syndication companies mastered their programs to videotape (for the most part using the 35mm originals, judging from the quality), at that time the decision must have been made to syndicate only seasons 6 thru the first half of season 11. Therefore the second half of season 11 and all of season 12 were never updated to Umatic or similar videotape. Then later for some reason the syndication package removed the first half of season 11. But these were still mastered to videotape, and those exist, despite what the CBS syndication bible claims. We know they exist because MeTV has used these masters.

I know more-complete season 12 episodes exist for most episodes, since Nick at Nite showed them in the 80s. Of course they had an "in" with Viacom--my theory is somebody "dug" for them. Two I've seen recently are "Bad Day For Barbara" and "Barbara Lost". These were shown unedited on Nick at Nite and are badly butchered on MeTV.

The only reason I suggest they master season 12 from 35mm is that, that is probably the only source for complete episodes, with correct opening and closing credits, and no edits.

Of course, with all this up in the air right now, all of this is purely theoretical.

A poster at the Home Theater thread says that Paramount will take over for CBS DVD and it's currently unknown what will become of the MOD program. So maybe VEI is out and no longer in the picture.
