Every year when the holidays come around the corner I noticed that Christmas is not being hyped up as much as it used to be and I can't figure out why Christmas has a new vibe to it. Because I have seen very little mention of Christmas everywhere from commercials to store sales and now it seems that in a few years Christmas will no longer be a holiday. I also noticed that Santa Claus has been replaced by The Elf On The Shelf and I remember when Santa Claus was considered the most important and part of the traditional Christmas and now you hardly see Santa Claus featured anywhere in Christmas related stuff now. And if you listen to the radio the radio stations hardly ever play Christmas music and plays the regular music instead and it shocks me that this is the new image of Christmas today
Do you think Christmas will no longer be a top holiday as the years go by?

My theory is it is because there are many Atheists and Jehovah's Witnesses who don't celebrate Christmas, so that's why Christmas is no longer being hyped up as much as it was in say 1980 when Atheists and JW weren't really as much in full swing as they are in 2019.

I'm so glad Christmas is a thing of the past... it was always so oversold and commercial!

Disagree. Hallmark channel has 140 Christmas movies which have been playing nonstop since Thanksgiving.

Some Christmas stuff appears in stores even before Thanksgiving!

JW are closeted polytheists in my opinion...they use lord and god with lower-case l and g respectfully.

And they say Jesus died on a pole or stake. But Jesus died on the cross! And JW's will shun people! They don't even stand for The National Anthem in ANY country!

Jehovah's Witness is a dangerous and deadly religion...they're also Freemasons as well!

Also...not many people have family gathering like they used to...I'm gonna be with a few of my friends this Christmas. My sister will be with her in-laws and I'll be at my soon-to-be home-church during most of Christmas.

My Generation (Gen Y/Millennials) don't have families right now, the late 2000's pushed us back for having the middle-class life. And our parents (mostly Boomers) don't have gatherings since their children are busy as well.

I Had Jehovah Witnesses come to my house and I learned a lot about their way of thinking. Some I thought was good. They don't go over board with gifts like 99% of the country does. Really how much stuff do we need. They didn't convert me to their religion but we had some lovely talks.

As for Christmas changing. Yeah it has. 100 years ago, you would do more things mentioned in Christmas carols. Bell ringers, sleigh rides. sitting by a fire, walking in the snow, chestnuts roasting, and a lot seeing people type things. Now we have so darn much material things that it gets so dull trying to figure what to buy. I like non material things which a lot of the above was.

I also think it's by age. When your my age, 37, the holidays don't mean as much as when you were a kid. There not as exciting or you don't get hyped up for the holidays when your adult as opposed to being a kid.

If you’re busy working, Christmas seems like an added chore to celebrate.

It did seem a little underrated this year but I didn't celebrate it at all. I wasn't in a festive mood for obvious reasons.

Me too...

...I let this decade end in a fizzle...like it should.

This just hasn't been my year...nor decade!
