Coach creator Barry Kemp named Craig T. Nelson's Coach character Hayden Fox (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coach_(TV_series)) in tribute to Fry, who coached the Iowa's football team from 1979 to 1998. Kemp is a University of Iowa alum and many of the exterior shots of the show's "Minnesota State" were actually of his alma mater.
